A voice echoed in their minds, like the rustle of leaves and the snapping of twigs overlaid with the barks and yips of animals.

It won't hurt me, I promise, just let me help pleaseohpleaseohplease!

Emma laughed to herself, some of the bitterness fading from her features. "Rather excitable today...but I suppose it's glad to have you home, my Lord."

"Well I I certainly hope thats-" Remus paused, hearing the strange voice suddenly speak in his mind.

"What....what was that? Did you guys hear that too?" the Imperator scratched his head and looked around.

The inkmancer blinked, a half-giggle bubbling forth before she could stop it. This was rare...and the sound tickled.
"The earth...it speaks," she murmured, wondering.
That settled it. If the land itself was willing to help with these efforts...there was no time to doubt anymore.
"It should...it should."

Can I, Dad? Can I help?

'Dad' smiled broadly, nodding. "Yes. Yes, you can help."

WHEE!

Emma giggled to herself again as the voice departed. Somewhere in the forests beyond the Estate itself, a whirlwind of leaves, twigs, and green-gold sparks leaped skyward.

Remus looked stunned and then shook his head for a second to snap out of it.

"Whoa...that..that was unexpected. I don't think I've ever heard land speak before. I'll be sure to tell my legionaries to step lightly around here." Remus took another sip of tea.

"That is unspeakably sweet of it..."
Scribbler had a broad grin across her face now...and a newfound respect for Hrothbert, besides.
He must have spent a lot of effort communing with the land for it to respond with such fervour.

[ack. gotta run >.<;]

Scribbler was correct in her assumption. Centuries ago, he had worked the land with his bare hands, nurtured it into the thriving landscape it was today.

It had waited a thousand years for him to come home and had missed him terribly.

And Emma knew; this was part of the reason that she practically glowed. "It is sweet...but we have business to attend to."

((No problem. We'll pick up on the morrow.))

((Goodnight!))
Remus looked at his watch. "I shall attack Vaswedes' forces tomorrow around the afternoon or evening. I need you all to be ready. Visher is in London now, clearing a place for us to set up a forward base." Remus finished his tea and placed it back on the tray and picked up his cover. He shook hands with Hrothbert and kissed Emma and Scribbler's hands.

"Thank you again. I have more confidence knowing I have you all on my side." Remus saluted them before leaving the Estate and boarding a drop ship waiting outside.

"Of course."
Scribbler sobered at this, draining the rest of her tea too and giving the departing imperator a salute.
"It seems we all know what needs to be done, then. Thank you...and please be safe."

Curtsies were made to the nobles, and the inkmancer took leave as well, departing for her little treehouse on the outskirts of London for a few last-minute preparations.

The serene silence was broken by an approaching vessel. The small shuttle hailed from the Maltir Kingdoms, which was a nation aiding the Resistance in the fight against Romulus. The shuttle touched down outside the main house, and a hatch opened. Two short Maltir royal officers appeared. One had white fur with a single brown patch around his left eye. The other was tan colored with a black face and some black on his lower arms and legs. They approached the house, walking on all fours. However, when they reached the door, they stood upright and removed their padded walking gloves, as is proper in the Maltir culture when standing upright and speaking to others.

"Is this the right place?" the one with the brown patch asked the other.

"It should be. We're about to find out." he replied and reached for one of the door knockers. He rapped it loudly three times before standing back and waiting for the answer.

There was a short moment of awkward silence as the knock resounded throughout the Estate, shortly followed by footsteps. The vine-wrought gates swung open and the Maltir ship's computer was overwhelmed with static despite its distance. This was quickly remedied as a few wards slid into place and the Lord of Bainbridge walked out to meet the Maltir.

He held no weapon. He had no need. But he was on guard.

"You rang?"

The Maltir with the brown eye patch stepped forward and politely bowed.

"We're looking for a Hrothbert of Bainbridge. Would that be you sir, or have we made a mistake?" he asked.

The sorcerer returned the bow. "No, you're correct. Might I ask the reason for your being here? Though I suspect I already know." His voice trailed off at the end slightly as he eyed the shuttle which they had landed in.

"As you probably may know, the galaxy is in danger as long as Romulus Fletcher remains on the throne of Galactic Roman Empire. He's begun invading all surrounding nations with a force not like we've ever seen before. We believe it's some sort of ancient, long lost technology he's employing. Still, we need your help." the brown patch Maltir explained.

"And you shall have it. Besides, I have something Remus may need." With a click of his fingers, something large and unwieldy fell into his hand. Perseverance looked no worse for the wear after its fall to earth, and it shone even through the fog that surrounded the Estate.

"Do you know if Emma is alright?"
