Somewhere within the rolling green hills and woodlands on the English countryside lies a few acres of land that none of the villages surrounding it seem to know about. Birds and game pass through it without blinking, but the moment a villager enters it they seem to remember they've forgotten something, and run off.

At the center of this area lies the Bainbridge estate, abandoned and forgotten for over a thousand years and only recently inhabited once more. By the same resident who left it all those years ago...and a new addition, of course.

It is this new addition who now wanders in an open meadow, her waist-length, chestnut hair streaming down her back as she walks aimlessly. She wears no cloak, despite the morning chill, only a dark blue dress.

((Open to everybody!))

Emma had now settled beneath the shade of an oak, and looked up when a tall shadow fell over her.

"You'll catch your death of cold out here." said Hrothbert, sitting down beside her.

She smiled faintly. "You know that's not true."

"Perhaps, but I can't have you brooding out here alone, can I?"

"Not brooding."

"Oh really?"

"...fine, I'm brooding. But I have an idea."

He cocked his head to one side. "Go on."

She took a breath, gathering her scattered thoughts. "Farkson said that the only way this scourge can be damaged is through soul magic."

"That would kill us both."

"I'm not finished. I think there may be another way to access the same power source he draws upon without getting ourselves burned away from the inside."

"And that would be?"

"This." She shifted, placing a hand over his heart (she still marveled that she could feel it beating, steady and strong within his chest), and moved his hand over hers. Before he could move or speak (likely to make some sarcastic comment about the pure cheesiness of the situation), she kissed him; not with any carnal desire, but the purest emotion she could manage.

Love. The enchantress and sorcerer dug deep within themselves, past the darkness, past the corruption and rust of the centuries, towards the core.

He kissed her back-

And then there was light.

Emma emerged from the portal she had conjured in the center of the meadow, waiting for Scribbler to step through before closing it behind her.

"Well...this is it."

The paene followed Emma quite closely, a sense of relief flooding through her upon setting foot on the meadow.
"It's just as nice as when we flew over it the other day," she mused half-consciously, wobbling on her feet.
Scribbler was still holding onto the cloak as if something very important hinged on its existence...which, technically, it did.
"...How far does scent travel? Or auras, for that matter?"

Emma nodded as she sat down in the grass. "Sit down before you faint, Scribbler. We won't be able to rescue the boy if we can barely stand."

"Auras go farther than scents do; with a scent you can track somebody across a few miles. With an aura, you can track them across planets."

Scribbler did so, rather ungracefully with a fwumping noise...but she was too tired to care.
From the seated position, she refocused on Emma.
"Scent tends to cling on clothing...do auras do the same, even in trace amounts?"

She fiddled with the cloak as she spoke.

"Absolutely." Emma replied, looking down at the cloak. "He touched that, am I correct? If he did, I can find him."

She twisted several blades of grass as she spoke, braiding them without plucking them from the earth.

"Aye, he did."
Scribbler crawled over to Emma, placing the cloak delicately in the elf's lap, then resumed her sitting position.
"Do you...need anything else to do so?"

The fidgety fingers, having had their fidgeting material taken away, moved on to rearrange her feathers.

((I'll be back in 20 minutes, my mother is yanking me out of the house to do some ridiculous errand. Sorry!))

((Back!))

Emma took the cloak in her hands, running her fingers over the fabric. "No, nothing else."

She closed her eyes, reaching inward and outward at once to cast the spell.

Scribbler closed her eyes as well, breathing deeply as she dipped one finger in a bottle of ink and tracing out the map of the village on the air. It was an attempt to reinforce Emma's spell, or at least a means for it to point out where the boy was located.

The silver-crimson patterns of her brush pulsated lightly in response to the spell.

Emma grew very still as she focused on the spell. A violet dot appeared on the map, blinking in time with the patterns on Scribbler's brush. She took her hands away from the fabric, opening her eyes.

"Found him."
PostPosted: Sun Nov 22, 2009 6:09 pm

"That's brilliant, Lady Emma."
A sigh of relief; Scribbler had been worried the room was warded against such things.
The violet dot blinked amidst the buildings, located near the center of the village...quite easy to find, but likely well-guarded.
Now the question was how to get there without being captured themselves.

"Hrm..."

"I can manage a disguise of some sort, and ward us against detection." Emma said thoughtfully, hearing the neigh of a horse in the distance, along with hoofbeats.

They were far off, fading as the sorcerer rode out once more.
