Hey, it worked! Lauss smiled at the kids who'd stepped back, pride showing clear on his face. He gave a few more commands, trying to dumb down his vocabulary for them, but having difficulty. Kids were had to communicate with when they didn't even know where the tip of the ulna was.

The game went along, the kids giggling a bit when they got the commands wrong or bouncing along to move forward when they got them right. They had all pretty well accepted the strange young man as one of their own now.

Lauss grinned as he noticed Kendra was ahead of most of the others, for some unexplainable reason favoring her. "Peter, I saw you touch your knee." Lauss felt a bit odd being the one to enforce the rules of the game, but was happy to see Peter didn't intend on lying about it, taking a step back. The game continued, and eventually it was a heated battle between Kendra and another little blond girl. "Simon says pull your hair." He paused, allowing the girls to do as they were told. "Now stand on your toes." He watched eagerly to see if he'd gotten anyone.

Kendra, not thinking at the moment, raised up on her toes. She realized what she'd done. "Oh, shoot." She took a step back.

Lauss' eyebrows shot up in disappointment, having been hoping she'd win. The other girl stepped forward, and Lauss patted her head lightly, making her the new Simon. He didn't like being Simon, anyway. He blinked over at Kendra, tilting his head a bit. "Are there any other games you could teach me? I think I understand this one well by now."

"W' can play a board game if you want," Kendra suggested, giving a little shrug. She took Lauss' hand and led him over to where they usually kept the games. "Oh, good! Clue's still here." She picked up a thin box and carried it to the nearest table. "We'll need more people to play, though."
A skinny boy about Kendra's age with reddish-orange wild hair and laughing golden eyes strolled up. "Can I play wi' you?"
"Um, sure," Kendra answered, not looking at the boy, but clearly knowing who it was since she was blushing a bit.
The boy looked up at Lauss. "You're new here." It wasn't a question. "Me name's Kelly."

Lauss blinked, smiling a bit. This game looked complicated. He liked complicated. Glancing over at the red-haired boy, Lauss nodded to his statement. "I'm Lauss. It's nice to meet you, Mister Kelly. Do you know Miss Kendra?" He gestured to the girl beside him, not noticing her blush.

Kelly smiled at the girl, though continuing to address Lauss. "Yeah, I do." He plunked down next to her and looked at Lauss. "Who're you stayin' wi'?"

Lauss broke out the game board, looking over the provided pictures carefully to see where everything was placed. "I live with Miss Lee and Rory, Miss Kendra's brother." He smiled and nodded, pulling out the rules and reading them over.

"Oh, you live near Uncle Fao and Auntie Elle, then," Kelly said, smiling. "I ain't been t' see their new home yet. I heard they had their bairns, though."

Nodding to the young boy and smiling at the sound of familiar names, he pointed out the piece he wanted -- the blue one, not realizing it was a female character. "Yes, their children are born. I didn't know you were related to them, though. You look like you have Faolan's genes." He smiled at the boy, not understanding what he meant when he said "uncle" and "aunt".

Kelly picked up the green piece. "Auntie an' Uncle is honorific. They ain't really related t' me." Though he seemed a little uncomfortable now with the prospect. "What d'you mean by haen Faolan's genes?"

Lauss blinked at the boy, wondering how to word it for a child. "Genes... determine appearance, and other physical traits like health problems." He scratched at his head, not sure how to explain it. "When a parent has a child, they receive the same genes as their father or mother. You have similar features to Faolan. I assumed perhaps you were related to him in some way. Perhaps your father or mother is one of his brothers or sisters." He wasn't aware that Faolan wasn't didikai by birth, and he didn't understand what exactly he was insinuating.

"Not likely. Faolan was adopted t' th' clan an' me mum ne'er was wi' anyone outside th' clan," Kelly said, looking down, his brow furrowed a bit.

"My mistake, then. Perhaps you simply have similar appearances. Miss Kendra here has similar features to the young lady over there," He gestured toward the little girl that had won the Simon Says game, "but they're not related. Sometimes it's just a matter of looking alike." He smiled to the boy, not really noticing he was upset, just wanting to talk more about genetics.
