Lumanny the Space Jew
My religion is Reform Judaism.

Why am I Jewish?
I was born into it, having been born Shmuel to a Reform Jewish mother.
Because I believe in the One true god Hashem, Creator of all things.
Because I believe in the Ancient Israelites' covenant with Him through the Torah.
Because I believe in the values and ethics of Judaism such as Tikun Olam, repairing the world.
Because I feel that faith is important and though, as the Rambam said, G-d's existence can never be proven, I still can and do believe in Him.
Because i believe that G-d does have a plan and all bad things happen for a reason. though we have free will.
Because I am a fervent Zionist who believes in Israel, the Spiritual Homeland of the Jews, given to us by G-d thousands of years ago.
Because I feel a strong connection to my Homeland and Ancestry through the Holy Language Hebrew, which I speak fluently.
Because I believe in Circumcision from experience.
Because I believe I am a Chosen Person of G-d.

Why Reform Judaism?
Because I believe in Educated, Informed Decision about how we as Jews practice our covenant.
Because I fell that ethics are often more important than rituals in terms of commandments.

crying I couldn't have said it better but I'm not a Jew crying

Hello all 4laugh My (most commonly used nick-) name is Sid, though I really don't mind what you call me as long as it's reasonably nice. I am 19 years old, 20 this October, and live in a city you've never heard of in Kentucky. I'm probably one of the only vegans in Kentucky, something which I'd say is, much like my being a feminist, likely indirectly caused by my religious beliefs, though I can't honestly say for certain. I'm still very much exploring who I am, and that includes what religion(s) best suit me. At the moment, I am most interested and involved in Feri and Reclaiming. My path to where I am now is so convoluted I won't bore anyone with the details, but long story short, I was raised Southern Baptist, left it when I was 13 due a desire for an actual relationship with the god I worship (not that no one has such with YHVH, don't eat me please), hopped around from anti-religious atheism to various fluffy bunny pagan religions for a few years, and ended up here. Needless to say, my ego bears a few scars, many thanks to this site, but I'm a happier person for it, I think.

As many of you are unfortunate enough to know, I sometimes have a short temper, but I will certainly try my hardest not to make myself look like an a** here. Other than that, I'd say I'm pretty nice, provided you aren't hateful or cruel.

I'm Bouidicca. Compared to many on here, I'm "old" as in well past my 20's.....LOL I'm a Quaker. Grew up as one, checked out a couple of other churches and prefer mine as it fits me best. Firm in my beliefs on things, willing to research points whether or not they agree with me and I can be quite frank.

Sorry to hear you got a 14 day ban Appel. sad

Violently Affectionate
Is this for real? Am I really being totally ignored, aside from Aino and Ren, along with at least one other that I have noticed? Am I truly that scary, or is it wrong that I came here, having no faith, and looking to learn? Or did I do something to offend someone, and no one has brought it to my attention? Or is it simply an oversight? I have to admit to being extremely confused.

But regardless, I can see that this guild and I are not exactly a 'good fit'. I apologize for wasting your time, and my own.

Oh goodness no. I am terribly sorry. I've been utterly spacey, that I haven't wanted to read much, so I just focused on people quoting me. I promise I did not mean to ignore, or anything like that. See, I've had terrible insomnia. I've gotten 2 hours of sleep in the last 48, and I'm not even tired!

Regardless, you are very welcome here. Again, I apologize.

Violently Affectionate
Hello there! My name is Mary. I foudn this guild because of my new buddy Ren and I thought it looked interesting. So here I am!

As far as religion goes, I was christened Catholic, and when my mom left the church, we became baptist, and eventually we stopped going to church altogether. Since then, I have been a Wiccan, a Pagan, a christian again, and now I'm just nothing..complete lack of faith. I suppose that's why I'm here. I want to believe in something.

I live in Alabama as well, and I am a housewife to a Germanic NeoPagan. We are not formally married, because I am not allowed to get married (long story), but we have taken a pledge to each other, and as far as I am concerned, that is as good as marriage.

I don't have a problem with religions, in themselves. I am extremely tolerant of any religion and any person, until they tell me that I am going to burn in hell for what I believe (or don't believe, as the case may be)

Well, something will find you, I'm sure. We're all here to help. And don't worry, I promise I won't shove anything or try to get you to favor what I say over everyone else. ^_^

Well, if you're not even allowed to get married, it certainly IS as good. That sounds unfair to you, but hey, you love each other, and you don't really have a choice in the matter.

But anyways, welcome! ^_^

Hello, I'm Divash. No, really -- that's what you get when you ask my name. I don't discuss my real name, my exact age, my exact whereabouts, my social security number, phone number, address, or other details that could earn me the attention of a stalker. I'm big on internet safety, and I think you should be, too.

I'm a Mizrachi Jew. That means that my traditions are the traditions of the Jewish communities of the Middle East, North Africa, and the Arabian Peninsula. There's a map that someone created to describe the wanderings of his own family, and the Mizrachi areas are encircled in brown. Most Jews in the combined Americas are Ashkenazi, which are circled in red, and the second-largest number of Jews in the Americas are Sephardi, circled in green. Very broadly speaking, Ashkenazi Jews (when not being defined by area of most recent origin, but by practice and ideology) are the Jews who follow the rulings of Rabbi Moses Isserles; Sephardi Jews are the Jews who follow the rulings of Rav Yoseif Karo (or in Anglicized terms, Rabbi Joseph Caro). Hence, Mizrachi Jews are classed as Sephardi, when speaking in these broad terms.

Ashkenazi Jews had a split between the traditionally observant and the non-traditionally observant in about 1850 CE, in Germany. The non-traditionally observant became Reform (some say non-observant, some say observant in a non-traditional way; I think non-traditionally observant is the phrasing I'll be using, in the hope that it won't offend anyone in either camp). Thus, the traditionally observant had to call themselves something to contrast, and they chose to refer to themselves as Orthodox. The Conservative were born when some Reform Jews decided to head a little closer to traditional types of observance, but not go back all the way. Other movements likewise split off for various reasons, expressive of the multiple degrees and types of observance of Jewish law.

Sephardi Jewry, of which my own Mizrachi Jewry is a part, never had this factioning and splitting. Either you were observant (which we Sephardim mean 'in a traditional way'), or you weren't. To us, there's only one kind of Jew, and that's a Jewish Jew. So, while I am not Orthodox because I'm not Ashkenazi, non-Jews (and most Ashkenazi Jews) who look at my life usually will call me Orthodox, because that's the word that they know that means "observant in a traditional manner." If anyone wants to know, we can discuss what that means in another thread.

I've read everyone else's posts before posting, and I don't think I could respond to each one with the attention it deserves, even if I did have the time. Just know that I read, and was interested, and I'm looking forward to getting to meet you all.

I can't wait for that day when I can say I am 100% Jewish with such certainty and without guilt.

To all: You know how militant I am when it comes to defending Judaism in the ED but THIS is the woman who I go to when I need to know anything, anything at all.
