RIO!! *grabs Rio and cuddles her* the poor thing. I feel so sorry for her. Not only does she have to fight Elleon, who is a bad a** b***h. But she also has to fight with Unsent Cory O.o; A little unevenly matched I would say. But she handles herself greatly. And not to mention Alice coming in out of nowhere all pissed off cause someone damaged her bunny *snickersnorts*

Great chapter. Can't wait for the next one ^^;

Nice to see that James has kind of been the voice of reason amongst all the chaos of the people who have lost. This never gets tiring of reading seriously. The way it flows, the way that the music fits absolutely wonderfully with the mood and the pace of the battle... I don't see how you can do this by yourself it is truly phenomenal.

This is truly epic. I have said it before and I will say it again. EPIC!!!

The only inconsistency I noticed was Rio blocking direct, revved swings from Unsent Cory. >o> Otherwise, badass awesome.

[[Chapter 12 ~ Through the Woods - Part 2]]

[[Cue: Music]]

Alice tapped her foot impatiently, her wires separating and hanging in the air around her. The glittering display was beautiful and tantalizing, pulling at one’s curiosity at the sight, but deadly to those dumb enough to close the distance. Elleon wasn’t stupid. She kept her distance, eyeing the girl’s weapons, trying to keep track of where they all were, but she found the task imposable as they weaved around, nearly invisible to the naked eye and overlapping only to change direction, combine then separate a bit later. It was like keeping track of water in the shore, not a wave, but a single molecule being tossed around to and fro mixing in with an innumerable amount of identical pieces.

Elleon gritted her teeth then finally snapped, “I’ve had it with you little brats!” Elleon shot forward and ran straight for the little girl. Alice, felt a tug at the side of her lip as a smile formed. Before Elleon could even think of reaching the animator, she was surrounded by a web of threads. She brought up slabs of rock, but they were only pierced by the tiny blades and sliced apart as more swiped over her defenses. In an act of desperation she fell back and just as the wires came down to skewer her through, the earth took her in, and saved her from death.

Alice spun around, looking, scanning the earth for some sign of movement. Nothing caught her eye until the sight crumbling of the tile debris behind her drew her attention. Several spears formed out of the rock and fired out, closing the distance quickly as Alice’s wires rose up before her to cut down the spears. The spears split into pieces, but their shrapnel continued in Alice’s direction. Alice, ducked out of the way, but felt the lower pieces tug at the back of her hoodie as they passed by and tore small holes.

Alice opened her eyes only to see the face of her opponent in-between her feet. A fist formed out of the earth followed by a body and smashed the little girl under her jaw to send her into the air. Elleon stood on her own feet again brushing off some remaining pebbles. She sidestepped just as a stream of wires tore a path in the floor and ripped half way up a large chunk of tile behind her. Elleon glanced over, seeing Rio suddenly get engulfed by light after losing consciousness, “Damn it.” She complained out loud, “You let her get away.”

Alice landed on her feet helped by the many wires she used to anchor herself down, “Serves you right. You scuffed my bunny. Oh well, we’re not finished yet though, your punishment shall be much more severe.” Alice finished by throwing her hands forward two waves of wires passing by Elleon on both sides. Suddenly, a shift behind Elleon caught her attention. The replica jumped and flipped over the large chunk of tile Alice had just before stuck her wires into.

Elleon’s plight was not over yet. She summoned several pillars to her level, pushing off to avoid the trap of wires that laid behind the flying tile. Elleon ran along summoning one pillar after another to push off, not letting her feet touch the ground for a moment as the wires slithered along the floor cutting out the base of each new pillar hoping to bring Elleon down to her demise. There were more metallic screeches, then movement out of the corner of Elleon’s eye. Pieces of rock flew past her as the tile pillar was cut down into more numerous and wide spread projectiles. Several struck her in the back, then one in the back of the head, knocking her off balance. Elleon fell, looking down at the sea of wires that waited greedily for her. Swiftly, she summoned her spear into her hand in a mix of green light and darkness. She stabbed it into the ground below her and braced herself against its length, propping herself up only inches above the wave of wires that flowed through. She pushed off and formed another rock pillar, then pushed off that as it was quickly cut down by Alice’s attacks. Elleon tucked in and avoided the wires that shot through the air in straight lines like bullets to pierce her, only to have them miss barely and cut off a tiny bit of hair.

Finally, right as the geomancer reached her spear, she shot out her leg and brought down her heel with the momentum of her spin. The impact shoved the spear right into the ground, the whole area around it exploded with huge rock formations.

Alice stood at a distance, surprised that this rock formation had actually knocked away her wires rather than being cut through like all the rest. Her eyes widened as the formation began to move. It shifted slightly rolling from one end to the other. Finally, the entire formation turned over on itself and she realized quite easily what it was. Titan stood looming over the tiny animator, glaring down on her with his dark eyes. The giant took several steps forward towards Alice, his size becoming more and more apparent to her small frame looking up. Alice called back all her wires, every last one of them spiraling around her and collecting into one big, weaving mass.

Titan lifted his arm, gathering all his strength into one heavy blow. As his fist fell, it met with a giant claw of Alice’s creation. All her wires formed together and formed a massive claw that caught the giants hand, if only for a moment. Titan’s strength tore through the flimsy creation and came crashing down a moment later. Alice dodged simply with a few hops back, aided by the second interval her claw provided. Titan went to lean back for another attack, but suddenly found difficultly. At second glance, the dark Titan realized the horrible trap he’d fallen into, “You… you knew… you’ll pay for this human. You used me…”

Alice smiled as she waved her arms daintily and delicately in front of her, constricting Titan’s body until the wires sliced through his rock hard skin and returned him to stone rubble.

Alice could have felt a hint of satisfaction taking down the giant opponent if it weren’t for the fact the other was missing. Before she could realize what she had fallen into, Elleon struck from behind. There was a sharp pain in her back, and Alice fell forward. She spun around and swung her wires around to cut down her enemy. There was a blur and suddenly her arm jerked across her chest. Alice motioned with the other hand and all of her reserves flew forward. Suddenly, another wave of blurs flew across her gaze and the wires came back on her. Suddenly, her own weapons coiled around her and pulled her back. She flew until a slab of rock slammed into her back, pinning her up against it, with her arms draw across her body against her will.

Elleon strolled up, a gleam in her eye as though appraising some jewel. Alice struggled, kicking with what little movement of her feet remained, trying to feel the ground that was really a good distance below her. Elleon laughed, “Good, good. Struggle. Give me a good scream! It just feel so good to hear that noise. The despair, the pain, the fear… it’s just all so overwhelming!”

Alice stopped her kicking and glared at the replica, “What did you do, you… abomination!”

“Ohhh… I’m touched, really. You shouldn’t have. Your insults only make we want to draw out your pain even longer! Come on… what else does the little girl have to say, hmm? Anything? NOTHING? Well, I guess I’ll fill you in…” Elleon held up a spike of rock, coated in a green fungus that oozed a sticky mucus, “I just used these little babies to catch your precious wires and stick them into the ground. Your very weapon that you used to trap and imprison others, became a prison for yourself. I’ll admit, I like your style… but… you still sicken me… which is why, you and all your little comrades will have to die. Kefka is only playing with you after all. He’ll kill you all once he’s done with this game, and then all the worlds will belong to us. Nothing, not even those keybladers will be able to stop us when we’re done.”

“What are you planning?” Alice said, narrowing her gaze on the replica.

Elleon laughed, “Well, I’m going to kill you now anyway, so there’s no point in keeping secrets from you…”

Alice blinked twice, focusing her eyes on the enemy, trying desperately to keep conscious long enough so she may at least understand WHY she would die. For what purpose she’d have her existence ended.

“Kefka plans to- “ Elleon peered out of the corner of her eye as pyreflies formed behind her in the shape of the undead teen, “Oh look. The dog decided to pull the tail out from between his legs and leave his hiding place. Hmph… anyway, as I was saying-“

“You talk too much.”

“What was tha- AGHHHHH!!!” Elleon let out a scream of pain as the sound of a revblade echoed off the field of debris and destruction. Elleon fell to the ground, clutching her sides, trying to reach the spot on her back that had been cut wide open by the Undead teen’s weapon, “You! You attacked me! You dare attack me! I’ll get you! I’ll kill you! I’ll-“

“I told you…” Cory began, Elleon meeting his gaze with a glare that could, and would gladly kill, “When this was over… I’d kill you… because you’re a danger to our plans.”

“You think you can kill me?!” Elleon retorted turning to face him more.

His answer came simply, “Yes.” then, he raised his blade, and in a flash reappeared on the other side of her, the sound of the engine drifting with a delay over the battlefield. Elleon gasped turning to look at him, as darkness engulfed her, “You… I’ll get you for this… I’LL KILL YOU!!!” Then, with that, Elleon was engulfed in darkness and vanished.

There was a long period of silence, then, with gasping breaths, Alice spoke up, “You helped me?”

“Helped you?” Cory asked with genuine surprise.

Alice seemed confused herself at his answer, then her eyes widened as she got a look at his face, a stream of memories returning to her, “You’re him... just like him… that boy… there- there’s no mistaking it.”

“Hmm?” Cory glanced up at her, tilting his head slightly to the side, trying to figure out what it was she was trying to say. His contemplation and patience didn’t last, and with a shrug, he sighed, “Time’s up!”

“Wh-what?” Suddenly Cory spun in place, setting off a spark with the tip of his revblade. The spark ignited in purple and blue flame that climbed the massive pillar, engulfing the animator and literally burning her at the stake. She would have experienced it further if it were not for the light covering her body and releasing her from her own bonds.

[[Grassy Clearing]]

Zexion sat before the giant mirror, nothing but silence in the clearing, a wonderful luxury if only Zexion could truly appreciate it, considering the usual daily ruckus he dealt with as he worked. Sora and Riku sparred endlessly to keep their skills sharp. Zexion stood, sighing deeply as he closed his book for the day uttering silently to himself an emotionless, “Done.”

[[Cue: Music]]

“Is that good news I hear?” Came the sing song voice of Kuja, “I hear music, beautiful music of success!”

Zexion cut his eyes towards the flare mage, “Yes. As you so conveniently heard, I’m done.”

“Really? You finished Zexion?!” Sora yelled out from behind him, causing him to sigh deeper.

“Yes… I’m done. But we can’t use it yet.” Zexion cautioned, motioning to the train, “Follow me… we have allot to discuss and little time to do so.”

The trio made their way into the lounge car and met up with Riku, who met with Sora’s hearty smile, “Good news I hope? Sora wouldn’t smile like that for nothing.”

“Zexion figured out the spell!” Sora yelled out.

“Yeees!” came the enthusiastic answer from Zell who stood up in a flash raising his fist to the sky, “About time we got a move on! Where to?! This baby can’t wait to get her gears moving again!” Zell slammed his foot into the floor several times stomping with sheer excitement.

“Calm down… we’re not going anywhere yet…” Riku said putting a lid on Zells overzealous behavior.

“Actually…” Zexion’s surprising response cut Riku short, “we’ll be in need of your assistance Zell.”

“Yes! That’s what I like to hear!” Zell’s enthusiasm flared up even greater than before, destroying any future attempts Riku might have to calm him down, “Where to?! I can get you here, there, anywhere! Just say the word and I’ll have you there at magic speed!”

Sora laughed, but Zexion stayed as straight faced as ever, “I need you to leave here, and gather up anyone and everyone you can find, anyone who can fight worthwhile, and is willing to aid out cause. Where we’re going, we’re going to need it.”

“Really, Zexion? What’s up?” Sora asked, a tiny bit concerned.

“Not important… first, let us be off. I’ll explain later.”

“Woooo hooo!” Zell jumped in the air and ran for the engine room, “Destination, ANYWHERE BUT HERE, here we come!!!” The roar of the engine could be heard, then a rush a moment later as Zell pushed the train into full throttle and launched off into the sunset.

[[???]]

[[Cue: Music]]

“Well… guess that’s the end of her.” one voice spoke out from the pure black room.

“I’m a little surprised, didn’t expect her to go down so easily. What a shame.”

“I’m not so sure… it seemed too easy.”

“Either way, I say good riddance to the witch. She was only a pain to begin with. Dead or not, now that she’s gone, things will only be easier.”

There was a universal reaction of approval to the comment as the replicas sat, stood, or floated watching the mirror that presented a repeating replay of Elleon’s defeat. With a sigh, Rio’s replica stood, thoroughly bored of taking pleasure in Elleon’s demise. The replica brushed her hair over her shoulder and gave a small huff, as she announced her departure, then vanished.

"So, Ajora, what next?" Jame's replica asked.

"We continue to follow the clown's orders... for now. We use him until he's no longer of any use to us."

"And as for the weaklings?" Rae's replica spoke up smirking.

"We continue to play with them. Just don't get carried away... we don't need another Elleon on our hands. Otherwise, do as you please."

"We always do." Azrael said, stroking a hand across Ajora's chest, then shoulder as he entered a corridor of darkness.

The other replica’s slowly one by one vanished as well, till there was only one left. Ajora stood watching the screen, then laughed for a split second, then stopped, “Well, I supposed there can be too much of a good thing after all. Oh well.” Then Ajora exited the room through a portal. The moment his presence left, the room lit up, bright with light entering from every portion of its exit-less surfaces.

HA!

That's funny, because that's my strategy for anything more than a 1-on-1 match in Smash Bros. Wait for the others to beat the snot out of each other.

“My heart has been… so heavy lately…
The darkness of my past… is a heavy burden.”

“Sins often are… but there’s an answer…”

“An answer?”

“I can help…”

“Help?”

“Let me help you…
help you carry those sins…
you won’t be alone…”

“You’d do that?”

“Of course…”

“For me?”

“Anything…”

“…”

“A heart… is a heavy burden. Your sins are not yours… but mine to bear… but I must carry them… carry them through to the end... your sins are now mine… Forgive me for what Ive done…”

[[Chapter 13 ~ Retribution]]

Noelle walked near the back of the group, staying next to Amy and Kyle Mckenna Her eyes however were fixed on their newly, self appointed leader, Kyla. Noelle felt a need to help out in some way, like she should say something, but just didn’t know what. She knew the feeling was mutual among the group. It was obvious the pictomancer was pushing herself too hard, but no one could convince her otherwise.

[[Cue: Music]]

Kyla climbed the last flight of stairs, stretching, yawning, and sighing at the same time. In front of her, was a large circular area, enclosed by walls, and a high ceiling, at the end of the circular room, were five doors, each following a separate hallway. Kyla could hear the exasperated gasps and sighed of the other earthlings behind her.

“You’ve got to be kidding me…” one voice said.

“We’re never going to find our way out of here.” Another replied.

“At this rate, I think I’ll end up passing out from all this walking.”

“You can’t be THAT out of shape can you?”

“I’m not out of shape, if you don’t remember, I did lose a fight to get here.”

“Somehow, I think we’re better off.”

“How is this better off?”

“Yeah, seriously! How are we any better off?”

“We’re not fighting each other… yet.” James cut in trying to silence the quarrel. The gunner left his lover’s side for a moment, walking up to Kyla, “Kyla… what’s the next move? Do we split up?”

Kyla turned her head, a look of surprise on her face. Why her? Why would he ask her a question like that? Why would she know? Kyle looked back to the doors and sighed, “I don’t know.”

“Good.” James said with a smile, “If you did, I’d be worried you were one of them.”

Kyla looked at James, wide eyed for a moment, then a smile, “Thank you James.”

James nodded and went back to Michelle. Kyla walked forward, till she reached the center of the large hall. The others stayed by the entrance, some still debating whether or not to turn around and go back.

As Kyla stood there, she was approached by yet another individual. Noelle stood a bit away, trying to think of what to say, “Um... Kyla… I wanted to say something… if… if anything happens… I have your back… ok?”

Kyla was touched, but it didn’t show, not on her face. Kyla turned and nodded back to her. But Kyla didn’t respond, her eyes were fixed on the doors. Kyla stood silently, accompanied by intense thought.

~Kyla… don’t bear this burden alone.~

Kyla shifted a little after hearing Tyue’s voice and words. Her gaze drifted back to Noelle, who still stood patiently for an answer or reaction of some kind.

“Well, Well… what have we here?” an unfamiliar voice suddenly echoed around the rotunda, “Weary travelers lost up to their necks, drowning in their own sorrow… how-“

“Who’s there?! Shut up and show yourself!” Amy yelled out, pointing her guns in random directions towards the dark roof where she thought an enemy may be hiding. Her aim dropped suddenly, pointing at a dark portal that opened up, directly next to Kyla. Kyla stumbled back in surprise at the sudden, unexpected intrusion, dropping her book by accident.

[[Cue: Music]]

Before them, stood the former number 3 of the organization, Xaldin. Before Kyla could scramble away fast enough, she felt the nobody’s strong arm reign her back in and hold her tight to his side, “I’ll be taking her now.”

“LIKE HELL YOU WILL!” Amy yelled out, firing off a barrage of bullets that were swiftly dispersed by the nobody summoning his six lances and spinning them before him with his power of wind. Amy gritted her teeth and went to dash forward, only to feel a heavy hand catch her shoulder to push her back. Suddenly, Kyle ran forward followed immediately by Ben, then Timmy. They closed the distance in moments to clash with the whirlwind lancer and his six spears. One by one, the others moved forward to attack the nobody.

As the others moved in Noelle was already in his face, parrying attacks till the others could join her. Timmy struck out, blocking and parrying 3 of the nobody’s six weapons. It was hard to keep up with the attacks considering there was no body to judge their next movements by. He hoped however, that his excellence in defense and taking a majority of the spears would let someone else through. Meanwhile, Noelle parried one, while Kyle duked it out with his Katars against another, with Ben handling the last. Noelle finally gained an advantage, striking down the spear, sticking it into the ground with a clever blow of her spear, followed by a seedling that swiftly grew out to tie the weapon down. Without a weapon to defend himself, the nobody was now wide open to attack.

As the others closed in attempting to lend a hand, Noelle leaped into the air, and came down at the nobody. The nobody, to Noelle’s surprise, had a sadistic grin crawling up his face. The expression sent a chill up Noelle’s spine, and a hesitation to her hand, quivering her spear. Suddenly, a gust picked the girl up, and threw her back with ease. Her body came in contact with Kirstin, sending them both rolling on the ground. Timmy teamed up with Amy, who fired bullets out from behind him as her shield. The spear stuck in the ground, vanished and reappeared, spinning before him and knocking away the bullets. Two new spears appeared, making the count now eight.

The nobody looked down at Kyla, who struggled valiantly to get free of his grasp. His gaze returned to the group as more shots and a barrage of stone spikes imbued with holy energy closed the distance and slammed against his defenses. The blades before him spun wildly to parry all the incoming attacks as Michelle, James, and Rae joined the fight.

Ben finally knocked the spear away and came in close, as he reached Xaldin, he was greated with the same spear he’d just knocked away, re-summoned to its master’s hand. Xaldin grimaced a little, speeking seemingly to himself outloud, “Some help, anytime would be appreciated.”

“Perhaps…”

“Hold on a sec, that didn’t sound like begging to me.”

“Enough, I’d like to get this little game on the road. I’ve had enough of hiding in the shadows.”

“You guys talk too much. Just get out here!” Xaldin yelled, losing his cool for a moment under pressure.

Suddenly, Timmy was knocked clear across the rotunda, leaving Amy open to attack. Seconds later, Amy ducked and dodged out of the way as a barrage of flat projectiles flew in to strike her. Her efforts were successful, till a gust picked her up and tossed her into the three farther back than her.

“Let the game of cat and mouse begin…” Luxord announced stepping out of a portal, “I much more prefer card games, but whatever.”

“So you think you can use lighting?! Let me teach you, a painful lesson!” Timmy could hear a voice traveling back and forth around him. Then as he stood completely to his feet, he took a stunning blow to the gut, volts of electricity flowed out from that point and traveled all the way to his fingertips, making his body almost completely useless, “Not done yet!” A heavy kick to the underside of his jaw, the same static flowing through his veins, a flash of yellow, the floor and ceiling switching places, another blow to the back, the wall, the pain, the numbness, the sound of fast footsteps, another blow to the side, numbness, pressure on the neck, light-headedness, her face… Larxene stood holding Timmy up to the wall, examining her prey, “Awww… don’t tell me you’re done already… this is only lesson 1, Larxene is better than any of you losers. Remember that.”

“Larxene…” a voice came from the shadows, its body still hidden.

“WHAT?! Can’t you see I’m busy?!”

“We were specifically instructed, not, to kill them.”

“It’s just one… and a weak one at that. Not that there’s much comparison amongst these wimps.”

Rose petals flowed throughout the rotunda, as the nobody Marluxia stepped out of a darkportal, and stood next to Larxene. He looked at her with an apathetic expression, “You’ll get a chance for that later, but first…” His gaze drifted over to Kyla, who used the nobody’s preoccupation to escape from his grasp and was scrambling for her sketch pad. Marluxia and Larxene vanished from their positions, moving incredibly fast, and coming upon Kyla in seconds.

Marluxia cleared the way, with a single swing of his scythe, he knocked back the occupied combatants and sent them flying back a good distance, Kyle specifically flew the farthest, coming inches away from tumbling down the stairs again that he’d just climbed up. They were lucky. If he’d been trying, half of them would have been cleaved in half instead.

Larxene stopped in front of Kyla, stomping her heel down on the book full of drawings, “Ohhh… did you want that? I’ll be sure to give it back when I’m done tearing it apart!”

“Larxene…”

“WHAT NOW?! Don’t tell me I can’t have my fun with her?!” The Savage Nymph snapped at the Graceful Assassin, drawing her daggers ready to strike.

“Drop the act for now Larxene… you know she is to remain unharmed, and her book untouched.”

Suddenly losing interest, former number 12 sighed and put away her daggers, “Fine… let’s just go then.”

The next few seconds, was like watching something in a strobe light. Ben went flying, and crashed into the wall, followed by 5 spears that pinned him in place, 2 over the shoulders, another 2 by his sides, then one more, in-between his legs. Then a curtain of cards, surrounded the nobodies and Kyla, spinning round and round, with little cracks in between, revealing blips of the occurrences within. Then, they vanished, the cards, along with their occupants.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It’s not over yet…

[[Cue: Music]]

Silence hung over the battlefield, torn to pieces by both sides, neither willing to give in any ground… heartless lined the arena, watching, waiting, hoping for one to fall so they could claim their prize.

Lighting shot across the arena, an aftershock of Matthew tearing a new trench in the arena floor. Kyle narrowly dodged and fired off attacks of his own, this time aimed, at Dawn. Dawn deflected the spells with her fans, knocking them to the ground, resulting in several explosions around her a moment later.

Mathy continued towards Al, and clashed with him, striking him with everything he had, every strike being faster and faster after every strike. Even Al couldn’t keep up with these blows. Suddenly Mathy struck, sending a bolt of electricity through his weapon, and jolting Al’s arms. Al let go of his weapon, leaving Mathy in a deadlock with nothing then pressed off. He gained altitude with wind then rocketed downward with pressure from above. His feet slammed into the floor, knocking up several tiles, then with a spin, Al sent them careening at Mathy.

Mathy ran around, jumping and rolling out of the way of the tiles as they flew by. This was harder than before, as the air currents kept changing with the competition over control by Al and Dawn. Despite this, he still closed the distance, finishing the last tile with a slice of his claw, causing its shrapnel to imbed itself behind him in the floor, furthering the destruction of the arena.

Mathy sliced the ground with his claw, sending a streak of lighting through the ground. The lightning blasted out from underneath Al, stunning him, leaving him open to attack. Mathy wasn’t one to let up, and his attacks continued without mercy. Mathy ran forward, and flipped, curling into a ball, with his claws extended in front of him. Electricity connected with the floor around him, keeping him afloat in front of Al, accelerating his spin further. His claws tore Al to shreds, like a buzz saw held in one place. But Al was saved, just as Mathy uncoiled for the finishing blow, a banish spell, an invisible blast of energy from Kyle sent him crashing a good distance away.

Dawn threw her fans out to her sides and waved her arms around, directing the fans to strike Kyle from behind, every time one fan passed, the other fan struck from another angle. The repetition drove Kyle mad. Darkness, accompanied by streams of holy light flows off of him, knocking the fans away. Kyle leaped into the air spinning around firing off hundreds of miniature holy bullets that homed in on the girl. Dawn jumped out of the way, taking a few hits causing her to fall to the ground.

Mathy met Kyle mid air, recovering from his recent attack. He clawed at Kyle, as the two rolled back down to the ground. Kyle struggled and eventually forced Mathy off and blasted him into the air, forcing himself down to the ground fast, and hard.

As Kyle landed, it took a moment for him to stand. His whole body trembled from exhaustion, how he was still going had to be by pure will alone. He vanished from his standing place, and the next moment tackled Dawn, and pinned her to the ground. He raised his spear above his head, ready to bring it down, and end her then and there.

Then he noticed it, a tear, several tears, all streaming down the sides of Dawn’s face. His expression at first, didn’t change, but then, slowly, it moved from a face of absolute rage, to that of no emotion, to one of complete shock and despair. Tears well up in his own eyes as he realized what he’d almost done, what he’d already put Dawn through… her emotions flowed into him due to his empathy curse, he lowered the spear slowly, and placed it next to him. He looked at the girl, she, still crying. Suddenly, a claw gripped his shoulder, and flung him back, tearing a nice gash in him.

Kyle skid to a stop, staring at the roof of the dome, its darkness, taking him in, inducing an irrational fear of something that wasn’t there. He sat up, greeted by Al who kneeled at his side. Kyle jumped out of his skin, as a heartless scampered by. Al crushed it an aero strike.

[[Cue: Music]]

The two were calm for a moment, until another heartless ran by, then another, and another. Soon, there was a stampede of heartless rushing past all of the fighters in the arena. They flooded by, tons of them, thousands even, running by without any hint or motion to attack, just a mad run.

“W-What’s going on?” Kyle asked, looking around at their sheer numbers, amazed that he was remaining unnoticed.

“S-S-Something…”

Kyle perked up, hearing Dawn’s voice clear as day next to them. She and Mathy stood close by, though Mathy still seemed on edge, “What?”

“S-something’s coming…”

As the last of the heartless emptied out… there was a moment of silence, only the sound of their breath could be heard throughout the battle-scarred arena. Then, a darkness, a darkness deeper than any of them had seen before, gathered by the entrance farthest from them. The hall itself seemed to warp for those fighters staring in. The roof of the dome turned a shade of purple, and tendrils, made of darkness, but almost organic in movement and texture, crawled along the floor.

“Wh-What is this?” Kyle stammered, his heart going insane in the presence of this new emotion flowing into him… and it seemed to be coming… from the darkness itself.

At the end of the tunnel, there was a figure, a small figure… covered in shredded black robes. The figure moved slowly, head held limp, as if watching its feet as it walked. With every step it took, Kyle’s anxiety spiked, but it wasn’t just him this time. The person’s presence was overwhelming, the darkness, so beyond what they’d encountered before. It wasn’t like the replicas, organized, systematic, controlled… no, this darkness was like a forest fire, unstoppable and unrelenting striking at the hearts of those watching like pins, needles, and daggers.

When the figure came more into focus, the onlookers could make out more intricate details about this figure. When it moved, it wasn’t just walking, instead, every step was small, almost just a shift in position more than a step, but the darkness beneath it moved on command, and like a moving sidewalk, shifted underneath and crawled forward a bit more.

The figure, was female, and the robes, were less robes, but instead, darkness, clinging and hanging off her body like robes, wrapped around in spirals, leaving really, only the bare feet and head visible underneath the layers.

Just as she was coming within a reasonable distance, it stopped, the sound of a single, heavy heartbeat accompanying it, then again a few seconds later, and continuing on from there. The heartbeat released ripples in the darkness, flowing down to the tip of the very last tendril. All was silent again now, the vibrating in their ears from the rising tension, the noise of their own breaths fell silent in the face of this darkness and the ominous heartbeat that enveloped the entirety of their minds and hearts, so much so that their hearts felt as though they might try to match the inhumanly slow beat of this one.

The figure slowly lifted her head, and looked out at the fighters. Dawn gasped in despair, as sighs, exasperated heaves of breath let out at once carrying their immediate regret.
Dawn stood clutching her hands together, tears in her eyes and her whole body shaking, “Dani… no…” The bass of the heartbeat suddenly went off cue, the body of the girl shifting at the sound, “Dani? Dani? Answer me Dani… are… are you ok?”

Kyle stared at Dani, the darkness surrounding her… he knew it from somewhere. His mind raced to recall what it was. His memory returned him to the battle against his Avatar rival, the avatar of Mateus the Corrupt. His eyes opened wide, and he swore he could have seen the silhouette of the avatar of darkness behind her, but truly, he wasn’t there. He couldn’t feel surprise, not now, only sorrow, sorrow for Dani, sorrow for those around him, sorrow for himself, in the actions he’d taken, and how he’d failed everyone. He came back to hearing Dawn’s voice.

“Dani! Answer me! Why are you just standing there?! Don’t you recognize me? It’s me! Dawn!” Dawn pleaded, but she dared not move from her spot towards the girl smothered in darkness.

“Daaaaaaawwwwn…” Came the drawl of a voice. Long and drawn out without a hint of actual meaning behind it… like a parrot repeating words, “Daaaaaaaaaaaawwwnnnn…”

“Yes! That’s right it’s me Dani! It’s me, Dawn! You remember!” Dawn smiled brightly to her friend as best she could in the atmosphere, “I’m so glad you’re safe… I was really worried about you. I didn’t know where you were this whole time… but it’s ok now… we’ll be fine, we’re together now.”

“Daaaaaaaawwwwwnnnn…”

~ ...Forgive me… ~

“Dani… Come on Dani, snap out of it…”

[[Cue: Music]]

“Daaaaawwwwnnn…” Dani’s eyes shifted for a moment and faced her friend, “Save… me…”

Dawn’s eyes opened wide as the countless tendrils coiled around her and lifted the girl higher up above. The tendrils took a more tangible form, wrapping around her, and binding her body, holding her over a story above the ground, and finally covering her eyes entirely. The heartbeat was loudest at this point, pounding their eardrums.

Orbs the size of a person formed in the air around her, and floated in place, rippling with the heartbeat. Time stood still for a moment, as Dawn shook her head, and then reluctantly summoned her fans. Al followed suit, as well as Mathy, they all readied themselves for battle, except for Kyle.

Time resumed again, and the rippling orbs opened fire, blasting out beams of darkness capable of completely engulfing a human being. Dawn dodged out of the way as most were aimed directly at her. Other beams strafed across the ground, leaving trails dark that hell itself. They all ran around avoiding blasts that came their way, not even attempting to try and deflect the torrents. Except Kyle…

Kyle sat on his knees, completely debilitated, darkness crawling up his sides, clinging to him. It was a miracle the attacks had not hit him already. Al yelled at him from across the field of darkness, urging him to get up, but none of it was reaching him. Several beams then targeted Al, forcing him to the skies, weaving around like a small bird in flight.

Mathy sped in from below, Dawn trailing behind, a lag in her step. Mathy ran up the tendril attaching to the floor, cutting apart the smaller tendrils extending out from it. The tendrils rippled and tore themselves from the ground and smacked Mathy like a fly, smashing him into the ground a good distance away. Dawn was thrown as well, but she caught herself midair like Al. At that very moment, followed by a beam emanating from one of the orbs was Al, as fast as a shooting star, avoiding the attacks as best the fighter could while looking for a non-existent opening.

Dawn flew up, then down, coming down at the girl’s head. A blur flew by Dawn’s side. When she looked to see what it was, a tendril that tore itself out of the ground wrapped around her leg and another on her arm then slammed her into the floor. Dawn cut them desperate as an orb rippled again, and a beam struck down where she was only a fraction of a second before.

Al flew along parallel to the ground, surely a shockwave would follow his position, “Kyle! MOVE!” Al flew in and collided with the holy knight, picking him up and flying with him, even if it slowed him a little. A beam that was finally aimed at Kyle collided with the ground behind them.

“Come on Kyle! Wake up!!!” Al screamed trying desperately to get him back to normal, though it seemed nothing was working. Suddenly, there was a sharp pain in Al’s back, then both careened towards the ground. As they fell, there was a change in Kyle, his eyes gained back their color and he recognized his surroundings.

“Al!” He yelled as they crashed into the ground.

The two struggled to get to their feet. Al turned to Kyle with a grin, glad to see you’re back to normal.”

Kyle grinned in return, “Thankyou…”

“No problem, Kyle, anyti-“ Al was cut off, his leg, gripped by a tendril shooting out from Dani. Al was lifted into the air, and slammed back down with the force of a locomotive, dragged across the ground, then thrown away, disposed of like trash. Dawn yelled out in fear for his life, flying through the air as fast as she could carry herself, catching him by the arm before he hit the side of the dome.

“Come on Al! Don’t die on me! You’re… heavy!” Dawn pulled with all her might, trying to keep him afloat, but was forced to let go, in order to save them both from another beam strike. His body fell, and collided with the ground, not moving. Dawn circled around, and shot back downward, looking out of the corner of her eye, like watching the timer on a bomb, the ripples on the orbs, the beams clearing the threshold, and she had to beat them, she must beat them.

Dawn extended her hand out in front of her, she could see him, shifting, slightly, he was alive. Then, he was gone. All the beams collective, collided on top of him. The blast knocked Dawn back, spiraling out of control before she could pull together all the air currents again.

Kyle stood, staring at the spot where his friend was, the one that stood by him the whole time, and helped him live as long as he had… a heart floated up out of the darkness, causing a scream from Dawn all the way on the other side of the arena.

Dawn flew at Dani, yelling and screaming at she went with tears in her eyes, “DANI! I’ll stop you! I’ll stop you! I promise! Just hold on! For Al, for Sis, for all the others, for you! I’ll stop you!” At her sides, Dawn’s fans streamed off visible wind currents, concentrated into wing shapes.

Streams of darkness flew in from different directions, each capable of taking her down, but every time, Dawn swung with the fans, and cut trough tendrils like they were paper.

She got right into Dani’s face, and brought both fans together. The clap of the wind echoed off the walls, a shredding noise from the wind passing through the tangible darkness. Then, crying…

Dawn floated in the air, her eyes closed, unable to open them to look. She just kept crying, “How did this happen… after all that we’ve been through… how did THIS happen. I hate this… I hate it… Kefka… curse you… curse you for this… You’ll pay…”

A heartbeat…

“Huh?” Dawn opened her eyes, suddenly realizing the position she was in. Her arms, her tied, caught inches from actually colliding. In front of her, Dani, floated untouched, the tendrils at her sides, obliterated, “No…”

Countless tendrils shot out, and wrapped around Dawn, holding her in place. One lone orb, the only one remaining, floated up above her, “I’m sorry, Dani… I’m so sorry.”

Silence. The Beam struck down, but there was no sound, no one could hear anything, it was totally silent. To the remaining two fighters, their worlds had just crashed in around their ears.

Mathy ran forward, mindless rush, his heart driving forward, but his body simply unable to hold up against one collective tendril knocking him back.

Kyle was motionless again, the tendril floated over him, like tigers waiting for their kill. He closed his eyes, and the tendrils closed in on him. Mathy yelled out from his end of the arena, unwilling to just give up on the last remaining fighter, even if only a little bit before they were enemies.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kyle found himself in darkness, pure, complete darkness. He laughed inwardly, “Figures…”

“Is that it? That’s all you have in you? That can’t be all…”

“Who… is this?”

“Heh, wouldn’t you like to know… didn’t expect to find YOU here… whatever… it doesn’t matter… you don’t belong here… you can’t stay for long.”

“I don’t understand…”

“Of course you don’t… you will eventually… some day. Now… get going… can’t have you dying here.”

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kyle woke up, taking a deep breath as air filled his lungs, but around him, he couldn’t see anything. He knew he wasn’t dead, he could feel, he felt constricted. Kyle fushed out with all his might, the sound of snapping and scrapping could he heard all around him.

“KYLE!!!” Mathy’s voice suddenly broke through as his claws ripped a hole in the cocoon that had formed around Kyle, “Move!”

Kyle didn’t have to think, his body moved on its own. Kyle scrambled out of the way, as countless tendrils skewered the ground.

“How long was I out?” Kyle asked, not taking his eyes off Dani, and dodging as more coiled darkness flew in to kill him.

“Long enough!” Mathy yelled back, dodging some more of his own.

“Then let’s finish this. Keep her attention!” Kyle yelled out, as a golden light started gathering around him.

“I’ll try!” Mathy dashed in, dipping underneath sweeps from Dani’s lower tendrils, and dodged left to the side to avoid more crashing in from above. His heart raced, Dani’s attacks came from anywhere, her tendrils, or as he gathered, perversely mutated versions of her ribbon were able to span from almost anywhere within the vicinity, only allot fewer the farther out you got. Mathy looked back for a moment, seeing Kyle was being left alone, to his surprise.

More tendrils shot in around him. He flipped over one, cutting it through while slicing another behind him. As he landed, he dropped to one knee, cutting a tendril that passed overhead. He didn’t think it made much difference to cut them, since they regenerated almost instantaneously, but none the less, he gave it his best shot. Just as he thought he was in danger, Kyle gave the word, “Mathy! MOVE!”

Kyle glowed a bright gold, accompanied by pure white, the light collected in front of him, and formed a giant portal. Out of it, a giant cannon, similar to his previous versions of Eschaton emerged. In his mind, he concentrated on his friends, his heart, glowed with all his being, then he yelled out, “For all the mistakes I’ve made… all the friends I’ve lost… THIS… IS MY RETRIBUTION!”

The cannon fired, all the darkness of the area seemed to be absorbed right into the blast, swirling in with the rest of the torrent. Dani was taken into the blast, first all her tendrils, then the darkness that held tightly to her, then finally, her silhouette disappeared entirely.

When the battlefield cleared, Kyle stood, staring at the empty space where Dani once towered. In her place, a lone heart, floated. Kyle could feel a flood of relief seep through every fiber of his being. The last thing he felt, before he collapsed on the ground, nothing left in him but the energy to keep breathing.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There was a heavy trembling underneath the dome, massive movements as the dome itself began to move and shift. At the center of the dome, a huge hole opened up. Out of it, a tower, grew forth and rose to the top of the dome, and passed through another opening there. The maze dropped down, then the walls reformed, creating, not a maze, but a path, straight lines from several mini-domes across the entirety of the ground floor. There was only one way to go now… up.

::Episode 2 End::

Why
when there are no stars in the sky…
Why do we look up?
Is there anything out there to look up to?
Are we praying?
Are we dreaming?
Or are we all somewhere deep down
Wishing for a miracle.

T'was indeed an epic chapter. I was in a bit of shock when I read that Al's heart floated up from where he was hit. I was expecting the light to come and save him, but not that time.

Oh, you almost got my name right, but you added an extra e. It's McKenna.

Zomg man! It's like you knew my inner most desires- I always wanted to talk to noelle TwT I felt so happy- least in fan fiction I got to speak to her *sniffle* that was so nice!

And woah! O.O what's the nasty organization up to?!! It can't be good- not that your fiction isn't good-what I mean is-ohh you get it!!!
You know what I mean!
And I'm not just saying that- your sentence structure is very professional- do you do editing? The way you work your words and paragraphs is very clean and complete, I didn't misunderstand a thing!

The battles were excellent and perfectly described- it all made sense, and I could follow it completly!!!

I dunno how you do it- you cna portray us so well!O////O

Holy crap...

THAT WAS EPIC!!!!

Catch my breath, read so fast I can't even breathe take me away on a mental journey into the darkness... Absolutely so vivid I could see all of it in my mind's eye as I read.

The music synched so well sometimes. The Thirteenth Anthology ending right as Kyla vanished and it ended. The Last Breath... ending right as Dani faded away... I have never experienced such synching before absolutely Phenomenal. A fabulous ending to Chapter 2 that has me waiting for the release for Chapter 3! I CANNOT WAIT!!!
