NOTE:

Sponge filters are a MUST in every fry tank as far as im concerned. not only does it provide mild circulation and biological/slight mechanical filtration, it is a food stop for the babies because of the microscopic things that grow on it.

The babies look so cute eating. all you see really are two big black eyes that scope out the food. and the best is when they look at you!

I'd say she's around 3 feet. Her mommy and aunty are much bigger, they're the ones on exhibit.

Awww! That sounds so cute! Do they have bug eyes?

I was thinking, since your fry is so small, have you ever tried liquid food?
I am currently giving my fish the bloodworms, and there is always a lot of 'goo' in the sachets that the fish love but is practically liquid. You could give the liquid to the fry and the bigger pieces to the grownups. I never give a whole shachet, i always store the rest in the fridge.

Hmm, I always used a outboard filter, never a sponge. Used to have one, and I lost all the fry in that tank. Not saying that it's the filter though.
But what's the disatvantage of a outboard filter?

i have invert foods for saltwater coral that isnt being used so i use that and they eat it. i feed right now

blood worm dust
powder fry food
boiled egg yolk
invert liquid food
crushed flakes

i feed all at the same time so the babies can afford to be picky.

the problem with other kinds of filters is mainly the flow (usually cant lower it) and if not covered properly two things can happen:

1) babies can get sucked up (obvious one)
2) covering on intake can restrict flow SO MUCH that the water doesnt get circulated correctly.

a sponge filter also provides a good place for the MOST important (and only form of necessary) filtration: biological filtration not to mention a source of live microscopic foods.

I want baby fish! I'm trying to get my puffers to breed. So far it's a no go.

the puffers are going to be a bit difficult. do you have LOTS of java moss in with them? that will at least up your chances

and you have to be sure you sexed them correctly

wow
a few hours after feeding the baby fish i had TONS of planeria worms. thats ok though cuz the babies were eating them but that was FAST

i do 2 water changes a day anyway so their next will be soon and no more planeria

Almost 100% sure I have 2 males and a female. She has no stripe and no wrinkles. Someone on the Dwarf Puffer forum gets theirs to breed that way, so I don't think the genders are an issue unless my female turns out to be a male. I do have a huge clump in there (softball sized and it's growing). I've read that the cool water from a water change might trigger them to spawn, but the water I use is the same temp as the tank temp because my room is really warm in the summer. I think it's just all up to luck at this point.

Planeria are creepy! 0.0 I bet that was a good snack for the babies though =3

as long as you have 1 male and 1 female you at least got past that hurdle. in my opinion its always the BEST breeding chances when you have more females to male. maybe some females are not worth spawning with? or she wont be in the spawning mood but maybe another will?

if the tank is big enough and you can find for sure females i'd snag a few more.

water changes trigger spawning in fish a lot because it sort of feels like the rainy season. new fresh water falling from the sky and all. also rainy means more bugs meaning more food so extra food can help trigger breeding.

but id say its luck right now too

as for the worms...at first i was annoyed i had so freakin many (you kinda gotta feed the babies a lot so they can easily find it) but once i saw the babies were eating them it wasnt so bad XD and i sucked up a bunch cleaning up the bottom anyway so its ok now :3

;-; the fish store hasn't had any more since they sold out in January. If they ever get more in, I'll look for femmes. If they spawned, I'd find the room for an extra tank just so I can keep some babies. <3 Pufferooos.

Wow, fry are hard work. You're a good dadette betta ^_^

Oh now this explains a lot;
When I came back from my long weekend I did a larger water change then usual, and fed my fish an extra dose of bloodworms. Two days later the dominant male gourami had built the largest nest he ever made,
And he rarely ever bothers to blow a bubble.

I hope he'll live long enough for me to get a larger appartment and get more tanks again, I'd like to breed him smile

well for now i am giving up on raising fry

i go to see my bf over the weekends since i never see him during the week. the time i am gone the fish do not get water changes. since they are fry and sensitive by the time i get back they are almost all dead.

upgrade to bigger tank? wouldn't REALLY help since the amount off food that needs to be added would still be alot. they are so tiny and a large amount of water is like an ocean. good luck finding food.

when i know i will be able to do all the necessary water changes i will try to get the fry to adult hood

unless any one has any suggestions ^^
