Zia got up, catching hold of Rhian. "Wait, please. Let them work it out. They have to learn to talk to each other." It held its sister close, trying to calm her down.

"Goddamn it, Elle," Faolan sighed, stepping away from her, managing to wrangle his accent down again. "Look, I don't know what your dad did to you, and I frankly don't care. You should see someone who knows how to help you with this, 'cause you're sure not lettin' me be of any good to you." He headed for the door. "Sort it out, girl, afore you go to losin' our twins." He left the bedroom, stalked past the Essentics, and out the front door.

Zia watched him go past, then looked at Rhian. "Go help Mama. She needs you now. I'll try and calm him down and get him back in here to make them talk. See if you can find out what pissed him off this time." It let go of its sister, nudging her toward the bedroom as it went out the front door to chase Faolan down.

Ellandra collapsed to the bed as Faolan left, curling up into a ball and closing her eyes, not even noticing as Rhian darted in and started trying to soothe her, at least not at first. What had she done wrong? She had been trying to open up to Faolan, she really had. . . and still she'd messed it up. She was messing everything up, absolutely everything and she didn't know how to fix it, she was trying and failing and it was getting so hard to even want to try any more. . .

"Calm, calm, relax, it's okay, no feeling bad, we'll work it out, I promise, please calm down, let me help? I'll help fix it I promise," Rhian said, laying down over top of her owner-mother and trying to soothe her directly. "Calm yourself, calm, tell me wht's wrong, llandra? Please?"

Trying to gather herself enough to at least explain to her little flutterby what had happened. "I - I can't seem to - to do this right, fl-flutterby. . . I j-just. . . wh-when I don't share my pr-problems, it bothers Faolan, a-and when I did it just frustrated him . . . I - I don't understand what I'm supposed to do," Ellandra said, before grabbing a pillow on the bed and starting to cry into it, her stomach roiling as her stress started to get to her.

Rhian started to hum softly, turning her complete focus to calming her owner-mother, to reassuring her, to ease some of that stress off and replace it with an 'it will be okay' sort of feeling. It was hard, though, as the little social had never tried actively easing Ellandra into calmer emotions, but recognized that the brunette's reaction was severe enough that to help her she had to take her own efforts up a notch, and slowly, slowly, under Rhian's humming and fannign with her wings, Ellandra did, in fact, begin to calm.

She still felt ill, she still felt like she'd gone and ruined everything, but the overwhelming panic and desperation that had risen within her were easing, and she was entering an almost relaxed state, her mind stopping its racing and self-deprecating thoughts and just... drifting, listening to Rhian as she hummed and mumbled soft assurances of "It will be okay," and "Everything will work out."

Faolan paced around outside, trying to sort everything out. He'd just made love to his wife. Things had been going well. What the hell happened? Oh, right, Ellandra had brought up her dickweed father again. Everytime she brought up what the man had done to her and her mother, Faolan couldn't help feeling angry. He didn't want to talk about the past or anything else that wasn't exactly part of their lives currently. So her father killed her mother. Big deal, right? His father had done the same to his mother and he hadn't even known either of them.

Zia came out of the vardo and looked around, finally spotting Faolan, and ran towards the man, then tackled him to the ground. Sitting up and keeping Fao effectively pinned under it, Zia started pummeling the guy, hoping the usual tactics of literally beating sense into the man (as perfected by Keagan) would work this time, too. "Stop being an a*****e to her! You can't keep running away every time someone needs to talk about stuff that's upsetting. She needs you, you jerk, and you're out here feeling sorry for yourself. You selfish b*****d."

Getting his arms up, Faolan did his best to fend the angry Essentic off, surprised once again by the fury the kid could unleash when truly pissed off. Other carnival residents walked by, a few pausing to watch what they figured was Fao getting his a** handed to him by his own son, but none stopped to help or interfere. Eventually Fao got a hold of Zia's wrists, stopping the Essentic from hitting him any more, and frowned at him. "What the ********, lad?"

"Maybe I wouldn't have to beat sense into you if you weren't such a stupid jerk sometimes. Get your a** back in that vardo and talk to your wife," Zia yelled, glaring back. It's features softened after a moment. "She needs you, Fao. I know you, and I know you don't like conflict, but she's opening up to you, doing what you asked . . . and you walked away from her, you idiot. You can't do that to her."

Faolan sat up, shoving Zia off and taking a few more punches from the kid before standing up out of reach. He deflected another punch and gave the Essentic a wry look. "Don't hit me in the balls to prove a point, Zia. I'll go talk to her, okay? Assumin' she wants to, I'll talk to her. La." He walked back up the steps and entered the wagon, pausing at the door and biting his lip, ignoring the blood where Zia had busted it open. Steeling his courage, he continued on to the bedroom, Zia following him into the home and shutting the door behind, though the Essentic elected to stay in the front room and wait.

Rhian continued to soothe her owner-mother until she heard Faolan and Zizan come back to the vardo, whereupon she nudged her gently, and the now more-collected but rather lifeless-looking Ellandra sat up and dried her eyes, shooting Rhian a grateful look - how it was grateful was anyone's guess, as her gaze appeared rather broken still and she didn't smile, but Rhian knew. "It will be okay, I mean it," Rhian said softly, and brushed Ellandra with her wings before fluttering out to join Ziazan.

She watched as Faolan entered the bedroom and perching on a chair by her sibling. "He broke her a little," the butterfly said quietly once the two Essentics were alone. "Gonna be hard to help her fix this piece of her. . . that's what we've been doing when its just Ellandra an' me, trying to fix her so she can get better. . . but it brings stuff up sometimes..."

In the bedroom, Ellandra looked up at Faolan, no sign of tears in her eyes any longer, just the signs of her previous crying. She noticed his bruises and split lip immediately but not commenting on them. "I'm sorry," she said quietly, even distantly. "I won't bring it up any more, Faolan." That was what he wanted, right? She'd do what he wanted, be what he needed her to be - she'd done it for her father, she could do it again. For her father she'd become the anxiety-ridden shell she'd been when she'd met Faolan; for Faolan, she would become whatever he wanted, with some effort.

Anything not to lose him, to lose his love, or to lose their children.

Zia just nodded quietly, whispering to its sister, "Yeah, he's good about ******** up relationships. We'll have to help them, I think."

Fao stayed at the door, not sure really what to do. He wanted to gather the woman in his arms, but wasn't too keen on being slapped around again if she felt so inclined after the beating Zia had given him. He looked down, fidgeting a little and unable to meet her eyes. "It ain't tha' Ah donnae want you bringin' it up, lass. Joost make me feel helpless when you do. Ah cannae change th' past for you anymore than Ah cans for ma own self. It hurts t' see you so sad an' Ah cannae make it better."

Rhian nodded. "Definitely. Ellandra feels...... not good enough. Wants to be what..... Faolan wants, wants to be a good wife and mother, but thinks she can't....... she keeps wanting to be everything and thinks she's nothing; it's very very hard to fix her, but we're both trying." she paused and flicked her antennae. "I worry that she's going to try and be someone else entirely, not Ellandra any more - or worse, be no-one at all. So I'm trying to fix her, but I think it will take more than me; I'm not good enough yet."

Ellandra gazed at Faolan, almost blankly, her eyes on his split lip rather than his eyes, since he wasn't meeting her haze anyway. "It's... alright," she said, slightly mechanically. "I shouldn't be bringing it up; shouldn't be letting it bother you. I won't be sad anymore, I promise," she said quietly. 'At least, you'll never have to see it; I promise you that much.' Was she doing the right thing? It didn't feel like it, but opening up to him hadn't been right either - was there even a right thing for her to do? All she knew was that she would do whatever she had to not to lose Faolan - anything.

The alter just sighed at its sister's words. "Well, that makes her part of the problem, then. She already is what he wants. She always was. You have to make her remember that, Rhian. That he fell in love with the woman she already is."

Faolan looked up at her, something completely unreadable in his eyes. "Shouldn't have told you not to bring it up. I want you to tell me when you're bothered, I want you to bother me with your problems. If I get upset by them, it's not because you told me anything I didn't want to hear, I'm just . . . I'm not good at this sharing thing. Look, it's not your fault I'm an emotional retard when it comes to sharing feelings. If you wanna be sad, then be sad and I'll hold you through it. Just don't shut me out."

Zia picked up a book from the table and flung it at the man, hitting him in the back with just enough force to make him step forward into the bedroom. It looked at Rhian and shrugged. "Sometimes you have to push them a bit in the right direction."

Already having stepped forward from being hit with the book, Faolan continued on to the bed and sat down, taking Ellandra's hands in his. "Our parents did shitty things to each other, but I don't want that being a part of our marriage. I don't want to see you hurtin' over your dad, but that don't mean I want you hidin' it from me, either."

Rhian nodded softly. "Yes, yes, I know; I'm trying to help her; she struggles, but Ellandra can be ..... silly, silly and very......... unchangeable even though she wants to change. I don't understand it, much, but I try. I don't want her to be someone else either, she wouldn't be her if she was!" When Ziazan threw the book at Faolan the butterfly's antennae twitched and she covered her mouth with her hands, copying Ellandra a bit. "Was that a push or a shove, sibling-Zi?"

Ellandra looked up at Faolan, a little life returning to her eyes as she squeezed his hands in return. It was a long moment before she spoke, and when she did it was slowly. "I don't want it affecting us, either, Faolan - I'm. . . I'm trying very hard not to let it get to me. It's just. . . between having more memories stirred up every few days, and the morning sickness kcking in, and realizing just how - how much that man messed me up, it's. . . well, I've been moody and I know it. I - I'm sorry, truly I am; I know it's hard for you, and I don't want it to be. . . but I guess I'd just been making it worse, anyway," she said quietly, before freeing one of her hands to gently trace Faolan's face and the bruises developing there, ever-so-lightly brushing across his split lip, as well.

"Who did this to you, Faolan?" She asked after another long moment of silence; nothing in her voice now but concern.

Zia leaned back against its chair, one arm draped back casually over the back of the chair. "I don't want her to be anyone else, either. Maybe you and I should work together on sortin' them out, eh?" It smirked a bit at the question. "It was exactly what it needed to be. He should be lucky I didn't wing it at his stupid head."

Faolan looked down at their hands. "I guess I weren't makin' it any easier on you either. I don't know what you're goin' through, but I want to try and help, I just never been good at this sort of stuff. Most people I got in relationships with don't really stick around this long." He flinched slightly when she touched his face. "Zia did it. Guess it got its revenge on me for the other day and took it upon itself to beat some sense into me."

Rhian tilted her head. "If you had, you might have knocked him out and he couldn't have apologized!" She chirped, completely serious and yet fluttering her wings in a slightly amused manner.

Ellandra sighed softly and traced over his lip again. "It's. . . okay, Faolan, I don't want you to have to know. . . b-besides, the situation is.... a little different for me; yes, our parents situations were nearly identical, but. . . I remember it happening, and that's so hard to deal with. . . but I'll try." She sighed a moment, then kissed his cheek. "Come on, you need cleaned up, Zia really made a mess of you."

"Dunno, lass. His head's pretty hard. He'd probably have done more damage to the book," Zia snickered.

Faolan sighed. "I don't really wanna know, either, but that don't mean I don't wanna hear about it if somethin's botherin' you or if you need to vent." He winced at the kiss, though his eyes closed in pleasure. "Zia didn't hurt me that bad. Da's done worse, you know. Besides, the kid didn't do anything I didn't deserve at the moment."

Rhian flicked her antennae. "No, that was one of Ellandra's encyclopedia-books she's trying to teach me with. I think bricks are lighter."

Ellandra brushed her fingers gently over the place she'd kissed, sighing softly. "I know you've had worse, and yet you deserved it - but I want to take care of you anyway. Please?"

Ziazan shook its head, laughing. "A brick would've been funny." It looked over at Rhian, reaching out to nudge her. "Want me to get you some cotton candy?"

Faolan nodded, leaning into her hand. "I wanna be taken care of, Elle. I wanna take care of you, too." He caught hold of her hand and brought it to his mouth, brushing his lips over her knuckles gently.

Rhian flicked her antennae. "Fluffy treat?!?"

Ellandra sighed softly, tears rising to her eyes again as what had happened really sank in. "Why is it. . . that you keep getting hit because of me?" She asked quietly, edging closer to him as the twins began to announce their presence again. "I wish . . . I could stop that from happening. . ."

Zia nodded. "Aye, lass. I think we can both use something to cheer us up now, eh? Be back in a moment." The alter got up and headed out the front door to look for the nearest vendors.

"It ain't your fault," Faolan said softly, looking up at her. "Besides, I'm used to it now." Didn't mean he liked it, but it wasn't an issue he was willing to deal with on top of everything else at the moment. His wife's problems came first.
