That would be great! twisted Althoung, as much as I like Monkey Punch, I woldn't want to handcuff myself to him. That would be touching him, and we all know how insane he really is...Maybe his wife. Or his desk. Or a plant in his home. Actually, I think I'd hide in his kitchen. Then I'd force them to feed me and not him.
"No, not until you work on the manga!"

xd Yeah, maybe being handcuffed to him wouldn't be such a great idea.

I'm now reminded of when Zenigata carried around the handcuffed cactus in that one episode in the third series. xd

Lupin luckily picked the right cactus to switch with, if it felt right even for that moment. Or, maybe Lupin feels like a cactus.

Speaking of luck in the Lupin-verse, how about Zenigata's when he's going to be adopted by that rich woman to be her son?

That episode was very odd. He could have agreed with the woman, secretly used the money to buy crazy weapons and stuff and then left to pursue Lupin with sort of better odds. And for a split second, didn't he think about it? That woman scared me, though. And her son? *imagines having Zenigata as a son and is frightened* gonk

I have a question. Who is the fourth guy down? I'm guessing it's a guy... sweatdrop
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v106/blighter/pics/GameboyLupin_1.jpg
Well, using my Japanese Katakana amd Hiragana workbook, the words by the picture spell:
Rerada (&?) Tsuguma.
But that doesn't make any sense.
If you want to double check it (like I did)
here is a Katakana character sheet:
http://www5.big.or.jp/~otake/hey/kanji/gifmoji/katakana.gif
When I decided what the letters spelled(?) I tripled checked them by putting the words into a generator for characters:
http://www.csse.monash.edu.au/~jwb/wwwjnames.html

I go the same characters back. As of yet, I don't know who the heck this person is, but I will ask the Lupin mailing list. I'm sure there are people on that who:
A) Know how to read Japanese
and
B) Have played/own the game.

So, I'll get back to you. (I just hope somebody knows... sweatdrop )

It's the robot from Aloha, Lupin. (And Castle in the Sky)

This has stupidly been on my mind for some reason... Is Lupin supposed to be part Japanese or all French? Or do they even say? Or am I just insane for wondering about it? sweatdrop

Someone who had access to the complete Second series had a question like this on the mailing list. They asked it because somebody mistook Lupin for being all Japanese, but Lupin said something to the affect the he wasn't. That he was "...of mixed blood.", or something of the sort.
I think he must be at least half-French and half-Japanese. I would lean toward having more French, though.

However, if you follow the manga, Arsene Lupin the 1st was half-Japanese. If that's odd, ask Monkey Punch.

I always have this weird idea in my head of how Zenigata describes Lupin to people:
"Have you seen this man wearing a red jacket, speaking Japanese with a French accent?"

I think it's mostly how you look at it.

Ah, okay. Yeah, I always saw him as being part Japanese, but I wasn't sure if that was just because a Japanese guy came up with the character. And I also wasn't sure because some of the tv specials it's like if Zenigata goes to Paris, he'll find Lupin. They seem to make him out to be more French, though.

The word wierd just seems to define Monkey Punch. xd So him having Arsene Lupin half Japanese doesn't much surprise me.

I'm late to this thread becuase I just joined this guild. But I wanted to chime in on the Funimation voices all being so horrible. I'm ashamed! Funimation is located in my city. I've often considered applying to work there.

Anyway if you want to know why everyone in Dragonball Z or Lupin The Third sounds so weird, it is because the voices are done by Texans.

I wish they'd at least pronounce Lupin right, sheesh. There's no excuse for that. And, oh, god, Zenigata's voice! He's my favorite, I love both his original voice actor and the one that gets played on Adult Swim. So gruff. biggrin

I have to agree with just about everything you said about FUNimation.

I'm glad they put out the (subtitled) Lupin movies, but do they really have to add a dub for them? Especially when they seem to have no idea what they're doing. sad

The original voice is wonderful, and I just love Jake Martin in the TV dub. He's just so good!

Something that's just interesting (to me wink ):

When I first heard about Lupin, I was checked into Jake Martin and he only had about one role before Lupin.
Then, I checked into Philip Wilburn (Funi guy) and he had only one role before Lupin.

So, how come there is such a difference in quality?!! gonk

It was for both of them a big role, but why is one just so gosh-darn horrible? xp

Because Funimation will hire almost anyone. I guess it's to keep production costs low.

FUNimation is not very fun. Although I never really listen to the english audio unless I'm curious as to whether or not they screwed up certain dialogue. But from what I've heard they make me hate Zenigata and hearing Jigen is annoying because the voice doesn't fit and everyone else is just kind of blah. Usually I will listen to the Japanese voices even in the Pioneer dvds since I have become more used to them. Although the english voices in those are really good. It's just unbelievable how much FUNimation screwed up.

Oh wow...You must live near my old home. I just moved from the Dallas area (but was Fort Worth born) to California. I had a few acquaintances that worked for Funimation and a friend who was working to become a VA for them (though he ended up not making it)
I had thought of applying as well, but moving came suddenly and I haven't had a working acting resume in years now sweatdrop

Honestly, I detest the Funimation dub, and find the Pioneer one much more enjoyable, but really I have to say that watching it in anything but Japanese just makes it too different.

Don't get me wrong, I rather like the Pioneer cast, but after watching Lupin in Japanese, I see how much they changed the show (even basic character roles)

In the case of the second series (the one Adult Swim aired) Jigen is much more harsh in English comparatively. Lupin is actually less of a womanizer. They don't characterize Fujiko as a slut nearly as much, nor does Jigen treat her nearly as badly (he doesn't like to call her a b***h like he does in English, etc) and Zenigata is just different. I really can't sum his change up easily. It's kinda like he's less of an idiot and more of an unlucky, simple honest guy.
Most of the differences are in context of statements...and on the surface seem very small, but it adds up. Particularly in the case of Jigen and Fujiko, it can be hard to notice the difference unless you specifically focus on them. If you do watch for it though, it will likely change your perspective on the characters. I like them both better in Japanese~

I don't fault Pioneer's choice to change elements in the show. They add some exaggeration to the characters to make them a bit more marketable to American viewers, basically. Because our comedy is fairly different than Japan's, it had to be changed to appeal to a wider audience here. Not to mention that whole sections of shows were changed due to cultural barriers (Remember Rat boy? LOL)

That being said, I would recommend the Japanese track to any die-hard Lupin fans just so they can get a feel for what the characters were originally like biggrin Plus is does some credit to Yamada, the one man who voiced lupin until he died. Serious dedication to a role...it was basically his whole carrier (save for a few thing here and there including the Monty Python's Holy Grail Movie Dub where he's King Arthur...and that's awesome. It's King Arthur sounding like Lupin. XD Anyone seen that?)
