Aya-nee was intently observing one of the scrolls... The child cocked his head slightly aside, curious, wondering what exactly could have affected the kunoichi so...the child couldn't quite nail it, but there was something different... What had overcome Aya's expression, that was. But then, there were many things he didn't understand, so that was all right. So he simply did what he does best. The boy held still and watched, with patience and attentiveness that surely couldn't have been possessed by any other child. The golden strands of sunlight lit ghostly fire in darkly emerald eyes, reflecting fragments of gold within the pooling dark-green depths as he watched. He listened as Aya spoke again.
Ah...
So Noburo was the Kage's gyrfalcon... It was a bit surprising...well, not really in the usual expectations of 'surprising'... He was a bit surprised that Aya-nee thought he believed Noburo as a pet...that was just not...well, even with 'paku and Aya-nee's friend...and besides, it was indeed fitting for the Kage to have such a bird as his partner. What was surprising, was for the Kage to have chosen such a beautiful partner...that was...well...maybe it was unfair to judge from mere first glimpses, but one certainly would not have expected that from the Kage...

Aya rewarded the bird with a honey suckle she found...but a slight bead of cold sweat seemed to appear at the side of the boy's face... He could quite literally feel the burning indignation that radiated from the gyrfalcon...a scoffingly haughty expression on a bird in fact, indignant at being fed a flower. All little Yuu could do was look nervous at the sight and a slight 'ehh...' escaped his lips. The child knew not what to think when a contented hum seemed to escape the bird though instead of the expected backlash...
Huh? So she liked the honey suckle, after all...?
And now Noburo was...swaying...? Was she...dancing...? Any other child would've quirked an eyebrow perhaps at the odd sight - which would be indignant for the gyrfalcon - but Yuu instead merely watched with great interest... Nor was it the kind of interest of one observing incarcerated animals or those of the traveling caravan circuses - not any as of such but the attentive kind of attention. Noburo stopped briefly to look indignantly in Aya's direction - upon the description of 'fiesty' and 'un-pettable'... (For Yuu at that moment, another sweatdrop was added to the previous.)
...that was about when the boy found himself at the receiving end of a falcon-version puppy eyed stare. No...must... Yuu glanced to Aya as she continued on...and then the child looked back to Noburo in the grass. ...must... And back to Aya... ...must......resist... He was not even halfway through their honey suckle search! He couldn't! Or more of...shouldn't...
...though of course...he failed...
It was useless to resist. As great as his relationship with animals had been thus far, there appears to be a downside too...which appears to have left him quite vulnerable when at the receiving end of such antics...
Resisting...? Yuu knows he mustn't...they need to fill their quota of honey suckles after all... It was no good. A boulder that seemed to be inscribed with 'absolute defeat' had suddenly crushingly burdened his young shoulders. The boy offered the gyrfalcon a tiny smile that curved his prettily doll-like features... This child had strangely colored eyes...partly-heterochromic orbs, dark emerald tinged with hints of gold. And a equally soft voice - oddly fitting however - as the boy whispered to the bird. "Noburo-han..." He was holding no more honey suckes, however, as the previous ones he had picked was safely secured in the sack with Kadar... And...he felt disappointed of not being able to provide what the gyrfalcon seemed to be asking of him for the moment.
"...please wait a moment." Said the small child, politely, as he tackled his search in the grass with even more ardor. It was an odd sight to see...this child not caring...not minding at all as cool patches of wet dirt sullied perfect, pale skin, while other children his age might have reacted with aversion. Occasionally he would stop, to brush aside a lock of dark hair that had gotten in his line of sight with the ghostly fingers of the zephyr gently playing with smooth strands of dark, black hair...he would tuck the stray strands behind his ear and continue searching the patches of verdant green...

Again and again, the flower he sought escaped him. The tall grass of the Mugendai meadows made it difficult to search for the smaller plants that may hide within verdant curtains. A child with less patience might have already indicated signs of frustration, or react with rage. Yet...Yuu continued, with meticulous patience... He did not huff, stomp, or even damage any part of nature in fury. This sort of patience...one a little better acquainted with the child might have been certain that had been an attribute he had picked up from San. But that was not quite true...San might have nourished patience, but that had been one of the child's best traits since the very beginning.
The burning goal was certainly there, what the child sought in the grass with sharp, green-gold orbs...but he too seemed to have well taken into heart that patience was well rewarded - a tantrum would not make the search any easier, anyways. Perhaps in time - perhaps one day - he would come to be as good as Aya-nee with these sort of searches...but as for now, he was learning...yet...he wanted to do just this for Noburo too...

X If I close my eyes... ...the path before me lays uncertain... ...his fingers paused, almost hesitantly from their drifting touch, the violet he sought now contrasting sharply against his skin - even if normally porcelain complexion was partly sullied by moist dirt now. With a gentle twist of the wrist, he snapped the thin stalk upholding the royal-garbed flower...and as of such, the small child proffered this honey suckle to the gyrfalcon... "...is it..." He began, hesitantly. "...is this all right...?" All right? But what did the boy mean? That a single flower was all right as the only means of a present he could obtain with his own strength for now...or was it all right now if he could touch the gyrfalcon...?
Or perhaps a bit of both?
It was neither that he was just simply doing this to prove a point to Aya - just simply to do the very opposite of what he had been told - Yuu, after all, was not that kind of child - nor was he doing this just to entertain the falcon's attempt to prove the pale-haired kunoichi wrong. The simple question...it was an innocent request to the bird...if it was all right for them to be friends... This child...he had never seen animals as beneath human beings.
He would never do something unconsented.
The gently whistling breeze seemed to still slightly at the moment, so as not to interrupt the boy. "I'm Yuu..." Yet another beautiful, small half-smile, accompanied by the slightest breathing pause... "Noburo-han is very beautiful." Said the child.
Those simple words... ...but they were filled with innocent honesty.

Watching Noburo carefully, Aya's eyes were glued on the large falcon as she went up to Yuu and pleaded for a pet. It was not like Noburo at all to go up so friendly to a stranger, especially a child and give such an innocent look to be loved. This was the bird that had gone around biting chunks out of people in Shimagakure just to see how they tasted. Noburo hadn't been acting out like that for a long time now, so maybe she was becoming a bit more domesticated. Aya felt she didn't need to warn the boy any further and just perhaps Noburo wouldn't snip out and pull his fingers apart like she had done to others. Walking over to another honey suckle, Aya plucked it from the ground. She did not give it to Noburo, but put it in the bag on Kadar's back with the rest. If one carried flowers for so long, they'd begin to wilt. The body had a high temperature that most people weren't aware of.
As much as Aya was on-guard about Norubo hurting Yuu, she was a bit relaxed and not in a position to stop anything if the bird did bite the child. Her mother absolutely hated that bird and even had genin try and capture it, so that they may roast it. Noburo had ended up being rather useful for the communication between Mugendai and Shimagakure. If she really had gone through and told Shinichi that she was no longer a part of Shimagakure, that communication would have been lost. Aya wished that Natamo had been a teacher in the academy when she was still a student! Aya barely had any animal training until she met her little monkeys...

Any skills that Aya had with animals had come from dealing with those in Shiamgakure. The turtle that Aski had brought home, Baki the lion that Aya always played with and then her encounters with Noburo. Moma-Yuki never allowed animals in her house. The few times that Maya had come over to the household, Baki had been forced to wait outside. Maya and Aya would eventually end up going outside to do whatever was needed so Baki wasn't lonely. Looking up at the sky, Aya thought about all her dear friends back in Shimagakure. It would be nice if they could all come here to Mugendai. What had gone wrong with Sukotto at the tournament? She hadn't spoken to the Uchiha since Ichi's death. Sukotto had always been really nice ever since she met him when she was ten. They had built forts together under the new Uchiha Estate's roof. They were all growing up and growing apart. Everyone except Aya and Kana... Looking down to the ground, Aya spotted a purple flower staring up at her.
Crouching down, she plucked it from the ground. Is that what set Aya and Kana apart from everyone else? Was that why they were so much stronger than everyone else back home? Training alone had its bonuses, but training with someone else was much more rewarding. Aya and Kana had learned that from their first days in the academy. Smiling at the flower she held, Aya was grateful to have Kana around and now she had even more people around her; Kazuma, Yuu, San, Huwei and now Noburo had come back to Mugendai again. Looking over at Yuu and the bird, she bet that the boy was having the time of his life now with these new people and new places. Aya wondered just what type of relations he had created with people and why San was so attached to the boy.

On her way back to Kadar, who was being so well behaved and sticking close to the trail they were walking on through the grassland, Aya spotted another honey suckle. Not wasting a moment, she picked it up off the ground and held it with the other she had just found. "Do you like birds, Yuu-kun?" Aya asked sweetly as she placed the honey suckle in Kadar's pack and took the horse by the reigns. Patting his long neck, Aya made sure to give him some attention, knowing that he might get jealous of Noburo was getting petted and he was not. Kadar had come a far way from being a wild horse and Aya was really proud of him, but he still had a spark in him every once in awhile. Animals were a large part of a community and Aya really hadn't realized this until moving to Mugendai and watching the people of Sundai.
Tako and his brothers lived to take care of the sheep in Sundai just like Mai and Orika had lived to take care of the livestock for Shimagakure at their farm. Aya had helped out a few times with the animals, but not as much as she wished she had. "Did you take care of many animals in the earth country, Yuu?" Aya wondered, noticing just how Yuu knew to mimic Aya in giving Noburo a honey suckle. Not many people caught on that quick, to know that you meant an animal no harm by giving it food. She smiled and felt a little more relaxed as Yuu interacted with Noburo.

Aya could tell that they were getting closer to the house as the path began to carry them to a more thicker wooded area. After having done her fair share of exploring this country of grass, Aya could say that finding a patch of woods was slightly rare in the small country. The borders of the country towards the River and Bird were outlined by thick trees, especially near the Bird Country where it rained quite often. The shade of the tall trees cooled the air as the group made their way into the forest. It would be a little easier to spot honey suckles on the forest floor since not many flowers and shrubs grew here. Aya kept a hold of Kadar's reigns as they walked through the forest. She brought him over to a small patch of honey suckles and picked the one that wasn't wilting and had a beautiful purple color.

Noburo waited with an uncanny patience for the boy to get the flower for her. She could see so many of the same types that Aya had given her around, but it would be difficult to pluck the fragile stems without injuring the flowers using her claws. The boy was also so short-sighted that the bird doubted he'd be able to see what she was pointing at if she chose to reveal the location of the flowers. Just as Noburo was getting impatient enough to scratch the ground nervously, the boy presented a fine specimen of an afternoon treat and she accepted gracefully. Well, until the heavenly nectar touched her tongue. At that point, the bird dove into another one of her manic moments, hopping around the field like some road runner. And like the infamous birds, she skidded to a stop when Yuu introduced himself. Yuu... It had been long since she learned to spell by imitating humans. Noburo wondered if she still possessed the skill to carve those intricate lines on the dirt. But then, she heard Yuu call her beautiful and a fluffy cloud grew inside the falcon's breast, filling her with a euphoria that could only be felt by someone as vain as her. Beautiful? Why, yes, of course she was. It was about time somebody recognized her for that trait! Strong and fast and useful were nice, but beautiful! She spread her giant wings, the span reached further than a tall man, showing off the speckled plumage on her underside. Noburo twirled around and danced closer to Yuu, letting the boy see her in all her magnificence.

While picking up that single purple flower, Aya spotted another patch that had such a beautiful and vibrant color. Making these candies with honey suckles that grew in the spring would make them sweeter than any others. Gently pulling out the flower from the patch of clovers, Aya looked up as she heard commotion come from Noburo. With a giggle and a smile, Aya watched as the bird paraded around with such pride. Animals had such character to them and that's what made Aya love them so much. "Nobu-chan definately likes you," Aya said with a giggle as she set the two flowers she had picked in Kadar's pack. "Maybe Nobu-chan can help you find some more honey suckles? She has really good eyes," Aya suggested to Yuu, feeling that it was alright for the boy to be around Noburo without getting bitten. As she suggested that, Aya leaned against Kadar, having him stop while they investigated the forest in this area. There were many ripe purple flowers surrounding just this area that Yuu could pick. They were getting rather close to the base now and there weren't many around there since Kawaii and Kadar had a habit of eating them all when Aya let them out of their pens.
It was getting close to that time to sheer Kawaii. Maybe Aya would make Yuu some new clothes. Even though he was dressed in much more subtle clothes than he had wore in the Earth Country, he still looked very aristocratic. Well, maybe it was alright for him to look that way since he was becoming her apprentice and all. Not many families could afford to send their children, especially at this age, to a skilled apothecary to learn.

Yuu gave Noburo his complete attention, delighted that she enjoyed the honey suckle he presented her. He watched, very fondly, as she displayed her magnificent wingspan, the child admiring the wide expanse they filled and the warm sunlight illuminating the tufted corners of fine plumage...
His sight caught notice of a single honey suckle and with a delicate twist of his wrist, he freed it. Though Aya's question did make him think... "..." But how to place it? He wasn't sure if it was the exact same "like" as in other children favoring certain animals... "One is all...all is one." Replied the child, his lovely green-gold eyes heavily half-lidded as he held the flower seemingly close enough to almost gently brush against his cheek. "I don't really understand yet..." A soft pause. "...but I am...drawn...to all..." At her wondering, the child shook his head, a very slight tilt aside. The furthest memory he had of caring for animals (and it wasn't really caring then) was when he was three...
It would probably be strange to say...but it was also probably the most accurate. He...it was almost instinctive... He just...knew...perhaps because he saw animals as equals, as partners...? Just like...he could almost hear the breathing whispers of plants...their "cries" of pain when hurt... There was something about his relationship with creation that both fascinated and somewhat terrified him...
But he too loved it. He loved being able to rest next to 'paku, that the tiny insects were not frightened of him...even Cloey, who had "scolded" him when he overwatered her... To Aya-nee's suggestion... The child looked thoughtful...Nobu was here to make a delivery, not aid with honey-suckle gathering. So the child, sweetly, requested to Noburo as a favor...not a rude demand or any such impetuous behavior... "Noburo-han..." Said the boy, respectful, his soft voice melodious almost against the whispering zephyr...
"...would you...would you aid us...?" He asked, offering the honey suckle to her. A singular flower but it was a promise too, that after they finish the task at hand, if she would like, he would gather more for her.

A few minutes later, and with Aya's aid...they were able to gather more honey suckles for Kadar's sack. The boy honestly loved the work...once in a while though he would stand from crouching position, so his legs and feet could receive more circulation... That was the only trouble, though, and Yuu knew he shouldn't sit, because grass stains could prove very stubborn to wash out... It was a bit of a pity, though, that in this meadow of flowers no butterflies were yet present because it was still early spring... But the pools of colors more than made up for that, and with the occasional breeze from the zephyr, scattered a few more petals into the wind... Yuu thought he saw a flicker of violet in the detached rainbow of petals and eagerly turned his head in the direction from which the breeze came.

The boy followed the trail of honey suckle petals in the breeze and sure enough, he came upon a small patch of violet. As he observed the flowers...he noticed some were...it was slight, but just a little bit different from the previous ones they gathered... Shuffling around the patch of verdant surrounding the honey suckles a bit, Yuu couldn't help but smile when he noticed tiny, purple buds... The Great Mother was just so...amazing... To think, there is life in each and every one of these tiny, tiny oval-shaped young...
But they are so fragile too. To think, anyone less careful and tramples through the fields might destroy such beautiful life... A young bud with the potential to become a beautiful flower. The child, with these thoughts in mind, sifted carefully through the patch until coming upon the ripe flowers and delicately, with a nimble jerk aside with the fingers, pulled one from the patch...

With great patience, the small boy gently pressed aside the buds in search for the ripe flowers... There were some of the honey suckles whom were ripening, certainly, but still very young...he cannot pick those... Minutes passed as he searched, greatly careful not to cause any damage to the flowers, until he was able to find another and ascertained this was indeed the only other completely ripe honey suckle in this patch... But rather than feeling disappointed, the boy was delighted he had been able to find two more...well, now he would just have to look elsewhere, won't he...?
But Aya-nee was doing so much of the work...
The child instantly felt guilty, for not being able to do more. Aya had easily enough found the aloe veras they needed...and had probably found easily about half of the honey suckles they needed now... The child shook his head, lightly. He must not think of depressing thoughts! He will have to try harder...harder...
