"Careful," he said quietly, not wanting her to accidentally drown herself. Jiyuu slowly nudged over the other half of the coconut shell once she had finished drinking from the first. "What's your name?" he asked curiously, wanting to know more about this mystery filly they had rescued. Even though she was quite a bit banged up at the moment, he thought that her fiery mane and cream color coat and wings made a nice combination. Her golden horn was quite unique as well. Certainly dangerous looking.

Chione cracked an eye, watching the proceedings with a tired curiosity. Still, she wasn't yet concerned enough to haul her own carcass off the leafy bed. The newcomer intrigued her, but it looked as though Jii had things well enough in hand. At least, she hoped. She'd just rest her eyes and watch from the sidelines to be sure he didn't say something goofy. And if he did, well, she could tease him appropriately once the sun was well in the sky... and they were out of their parents' earshot.

"Em-breee" The filly answered Jiyuu's question with a soft wheeze and a shake of her head, as if clearing away bad dreams. "My name's Embri. I don't... feel all wonderful." She admits quietly, guzzling down the second bowl of water. The sun was peeking over the horizon now, the faintest sliver of pale gold tinting the ocean waves and the shores.
Ruefully the filly examines her feathers, trying to straighten out the bent pinions and tattered secondaries. She looks at the colt uncertainly, then her surroundings.
"Jiyuu... where is here?"

"This is our home," he replied quietly, glancing about as well to make sure they hadn't accidentally woken anyone up. His dad seemed to be awake, but that wasn't very unusual at this time of morning. In any case, he seemed to be staying silent for now. "We're not too far off from the beach. Um, should I go get more water?"
Toshiro continued to listen in quietly on the conversation. So, her name is Embri. He wondered to himself how the companions she mentioned earlier were fairing. Surely they were distraught at her disappearance. Perhaps once she is well enough would could help her search for them. It must be odd waking up in strange company and not remembering how you got there. Glancing over at his mate and daughter, it seemed as if the small filly was half awake- although it was difficult to tell. Kindle of course was sleeping well. She definitely wasn't a morning Kirin.

Chione's eyes came open a little wider. Slowly, she pushed herself up with a wide yawn and crossed to the pair of foals, casting only a brief glance back at her mother. The mare was still deeply asleep. No sign of their father, but it wasn't at all unusual for him to be up before the sun. She stretched her nose to the leafy overhanging, then rolled her shoulders, legs splayed. Her wings came next, the downy feathers flexed and spread. Finally her hind end. She finished with a little shiver of her tail. Her eyes settled on the cream filly, still a little dirty from the harried cleaning the adults had given her the evening before. "You're awake? Embri...?"

With a soft squeal Embri shifted back, flattening herself to the ground as Chione rose unexpectedly. Her amber eyes anxious, she regarded the brown winged filly warily with a soft snort of alarm.
"I-I'm awake." She finally managed, skuttling painfully underneath the lazy waving seagrass at the edge of the travois with a slight wheeze. Despite all the company, she suddenly felt very lonely indeed. "Lachtna..." the cream coated filly whispered softly, turning her head to look up and down the beach, heart sinking. I've no idea what direction to even go in...

"Morning, sis," Jiyuu greeted quietly, giving a soft smile at the sight of his sister. "Embri, this is my sister, Chione." He looked the creamy filly over thoughtfully, noting that she seemed to be a bit nervous still. If she's this afraid of us, how will she react when our parents get up? the colt thought to himself, glancing over at the two adults. They were much bigger than them after all. "Um, who's Lachtna?"
Toshiro continued to listen in silence, not willing to make his presence known until the filly had calmed down a bit. He still couldn't shake the feeling that he had heard that name before. Lachtna... Where in the world have I heard that name before...? The stallion lifted his head just enough to look out at the horizon and admire the sunrise. Hm, another new day. I'm sure we'll have some more answers by the end.

Chione froze, glancing at her brother uncertainly. The filly was terrified. "Umm..." Her head lowered as she peered up from beneath her brows. "We won't hurt you. I promise."
Lachtna? Was it some kind of animal? Or maybe another Kirin. Maybe a parent. No, then she'd use mom or dad. A brother or a friend. That would make sense. But then, they must have gotten separated in the storm. She glanced at the opening, spying the outline of their father in the burgeoning light.

Embri licked her lips nervously, ears drooping. "L-Lachtna... is my friend. He's been with me since I hatched, in the forest... it was... " The filly closes her eyes, remembering. "A while ago, it was colder, the flowers were just starting to open. We live on the beach now though, by the bluff." Even to her own ears the description was vague... this stretch of beach could well have been "theirs" except for the lack of elevation and islands in the distance.
"There was a headwind... the sun had just set, and... and I was mad at Lachtna, because he was treating me like a fuzztail. I wanted so badly to fly. The updraft, against the bluff, I thought it would make it easier." Voice soft and yet bitter, Embri pulls a strand of dried seaweed from her feathers angrily, ears pinned back. "It made it easier alright... storm rolled in, and I couldn't get back down... the rest, I don't remember. I have to find Lachtna, he'll be worried sick."
Embri shakes her head with a rattling huff, lurching to her hooves unsteadily. I will not fall over... knees will stop wobbling! With a comically fierce expression the filly glares at her hocks, tail flicking.

"Wait, wait, hang on a moment!" Jiyuu replied, positioning himself to be able to catch her if she fell. "Can you really go out like this? You're pretty beat up right now." The colt admired her determination, but still feared for her well-being. "Maybe you should lie down a bit longer. I promise I'll help you look for him later." Of course, that was much easier said than done. The beach front stretched on for quite a distance both ways, and they had no idea which direction the filly had originally come from.
Toshiro couldn't help but feel even more sorry for the cream filly as he listened to her tale. It was amazing that she was even in as good of condition as she was really. "Yes, we will help you find him," the stallion said softly, hoping not to alarm her by suddenly making himself known. He turned his head to look at her, his expression nothing but kind. "What does this Lachtna fellow look like?"

Chione moved to her father's side, snuggling his leg in her usual good morning ritual, though she left out the lash-batting. Her mother insisted it might help her later in life, learning to give her father 'the eyes.' With what, she had no idea, but for some reason, it always sent the mare into gigglefits. "Lachtna..." Peering out the entrance, she glanced down the beach, as though he might somehow magically appear from the sands. Nothing seemed to be coming their way, but it was getting brighter out.
Frowning, she looked back at the filly in awe. "You tried to fly in the storm?" Cool... and dangerous, all at once. She cast a glance at her mother. Even as large as she was, she tended to be cautious about when she took to wing.

"It was more like uncontrolled tumbling than flying." Embri shakes her head disparagingly. "I wouldn't recommend it..." The filly snaps her head around to look behind her as Toshiro speaks, overbalancing and stumbling into Jiyuu, going down in a tangle of wings and legs.
"Ow, oh, sorry!" She winces and heaves a rattling sigh, coughing. "Maybe... down isn't so bad." Embri looks between Jiyuu, Toshiro and Chione as she tries to untangle herself from the colt. "You must be all part of the same herd?" There was a distinct family resemblance at least.
"Lachtna... is a stallion, bigger than me but not as big as you." She nods at Toshiro in the brightening dawn light. "About the same color of coat as yours too, but cream scales like mine and a mane to match. He's older than me, though not by *that* much." She stressed the words as if being younger was an affront to her dignity.

Well, it seemed that Jiyuu had done a good job of positioning himself to catch Embri. On the downside though her tumble ended up bringing both of them down at once. The colt tried carefully to free himself from their little tangle without injuring her any further. So far he wasn't very successful.
At hearing Embri's description of her friend, Toshiro suddenly had a face to place with the name. "Ah, Lachtna..." he replied thoughtfully, a small smile making it's way onto his face. "Heh, small world." The stallion gave a small shake of his head before looking back at the tangled pair. "We'll definitely help you find him. Later though. For now perhaps I could offer you two some assistance?"
Jiyuu flushed a bit at this and flapped his wings uselessly behind him. "Um... Maybe." He somehow had the feling he would be receiving much teasing from Chione later...

"Please... " Embri let out a small suffering sigh, "My legs do not seem to be co-operating today." She flattens her ears, this was no way to make a good impression! Still dirty and looking like something dragged out of a bog, here she was bumbling about like a newborn. It didn't help that her ribs felt like someone had kicked them in, repeatedly. Be happy you're not dead, nor found by something looking for a snack.

Chione bit her lower lip, trying unsuccessfully to hold in a giggle. That had so earned him a good harassing later. She moved to the pair, ducking her head. "Lemme see, Jii, if you pull your hind leg out-... no... maybe if you pull your neck.... hmm..." She tilted her head thoughtfully, examining the jumble. She was unable to make much sense of it, so instead, she nipped her brother's wing playfully... so long as he was unable to exact retribution, she might as well enjoy it.
