I would have to pull a sabi-shin (assassinate the director...slowly) if Mary Kate Olsen (kill me...now) played Rei...well...I'd pull a sabi-shin if any of these picks happened.

damn right! Rei played by Kate Olsen would be my worst nightmare *shudders*.

I really hope they do a good job on it though... if they get to do it at all!

Yeah...that would be pretty scary and nightmare(ish)...the only thing I can think of that could be worse is...Anna Nicole Smith playing Misato. (it's a random thought! Don't kill me...)

I'm going to give the production team the benefit of a doubt pertaining to this movie...but if they screw it up...well...I'll massacre it with words, either here or somewhere else. biggrin

You know, now that I think of it, the casting director(s) has almost as much pressure as the writers for the movie. Of course, the story is always high on the list, but some people (especially in here) seem to worry more about all the wrong people playing all the wrong parts.

I know that if I were working on the movie, I'd be nervous as hell because I wouldn't want a legion of fans sending me hate mail or death threats, or tarnish the name of a good anime.

Very true...I have to admit I didn't think much about the pressure those writers will go through...phew boy...

You know.. if it's really that bad maybe they will pull an Anno and make something better if we hound them enough.

But you are, of course, right. I envy their courage, really.

I'd like to see how well the CGI of the EVA's and Angels would look

I'd have to say it has the POTENTIAL to be one of the best movies ever made and the potential to utterly sicken and disgust everyone who has ever watched the anime. Depending on how they do it. It's easy to get sidetracked into shoving too much weirdness into a movie like this (anyone ever seen Dune?), and they have to find a way to incorporate the original anime's mood without transferring it directly- because it's an anime mood, and it won't work without some alteration in a live action film. The trouble is HOW to alter it- there are a million wrong ways and only one right way. I'm rather looking forward to the CGIs and such, in any case- Weta Workshop is doing it and they did a GREAT job on LOTR (they compared Eva to LOTR alot in the interview... said they didn't feel worthy of Eva. Although I expect you've all seen the interview yourselves already.).

If Anno is working with them like I've heard, there's a good chance it'll come out alright. Either way, they've got to be careful with casting too. I'd like to see some totally new actors, no famous names... Good, new, actors, ready to be eternally identified with Eva razz

Well, for starters, Anno recently said in an interview that he would probably not give much input into the making of the movie. Although he said that mainly because he wants to see a new take on the series, he is probably busy on another series.

I've seen Dune before. I doubt Eva will be able to go in the weirdness that was the spice orgies. wink

I personally don't WANT a live action movie.
1. It won't use the voice actors as actors *duh*
2. Why would you do this anyway?
I haven't read anything about this and just don't want to see it. If Hideaki wants to work on the anime some more, let him. As much of a fan of Eva and him I am, I'm not watching it. I just don't see the point of making this.
Yes, I know he likes making live action movies ect, but still, I do not see the need for Eva to have one whatsoever.

*reads posts below* So... Anno-san ISN'T making it... THERE IS A GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, now I'm not watching it with a pair of tar covered shades and a pair of heavy duty earplugs or touching with a 20 foot pole.

May I remind that this is what the majority of lord of the rans declared years before the movies came out. And those were pretty damn good.

I'm not saying its a sign Eva will be good, but it is a tad unfair to judge it this early in production.

Still my personal opinion. It's not like I'm telling someone else to follow my example.
I wasn't even aware of Lord of the Rings until the movies came out because my LOTR loving parents never even bothered to show me their stackes of LOTR books. If I had read the books first, I wouldn't like the movies anywhere near as much as I do now. I would be pissed at them for not including certain parts which I actually am upset with them for in ROTK. FOTR, I understand completely why they didn't put something things in, but I'm sitting anxiously waiting for the extended version of ROTK to come out so I can see how many parts they added.
I am treating this movie as a fanfic now that I know Hideaki isn't working on it. I've read at least 30 different Evangelion fanfics and honestly, they were unbelievably awful. They almost had nothing to do with the series or its plot even tho it claimed it did. I stopped reading fanfics when I read the first 2 "episodes" of Eva R.

Yep, you are definately entitled to your opinion, I agree, I'm just stating mine wink

I was a lil rar about them leaving some parts out in ROTK but I still liked it quite a bit. So I'm not going to judge the movie yet, granted it won't be as awesome as the anime, but I still look forward to it. And if they kill it, well, then I'll be sad. But it's not like their diliberately going to mess it up, no one wants angry fans.

I think they're gonig to start casting in early 2006. They're not doing it entirely westernized or entirely asain. They're just picking the best people for the parts then changing the names accordingly. (ie. if a british person gets cast as misato, they might change her name to something more english, whereas if a japanese person got cast as her, the name would remain misato). Peter Jackson IS NOT the director (they have not picked one yet i don't think) his new zealand-based company is simply doing the CG (weta workshop). The movie is probably going to cover the first few episodes then take off in its own direction and possibly tell an entirely different stry not pertaining to the series or possibly complementing the series. The names HAVE NOT been changed yet...the names on the concept designs are just to give the designs a name rather than "Female Pilot A". If you look closely at Rei's arm in the concept art it says "AYANAMI REI" on the plugsuit.

...thats all i can think of at the moment...

I think they should use Asian actors for the movie. The cast is full of Asian people, so it makes sense. Asuka is probably the only person who could have a white person casted as her.

Anyway, I'd see the movie no matter what. If people say Evangelion sucks just because they see a movie, they've got another thing coming. I think the Harry Potter movies are bad, but I love the books. But then there are all these people who say HP sucks just because they see the movies. Get what I'm saying?

Anyway, actors.... maybe they should use the actor from Onimusha 2 (yes, the main character is based on an actor) as Gendo? Hm....

A full asian cast will never ever ever ever ever ever happen. Because bumbling American boneheads don't like accents/subtitles. And they want this baby to sell. Number one priority. Asian actors would be cool, but not going to happen. Even if it was all Euro actors, I wouldn't care as long as they leave the names alone gonk

But, omg, Hugo Weaving= Gendo
