"Yeah, yeah, I'm fine. Nothing's wrong? Why should there be?" He said, faking a smile as he saw Amelia. "It's been a while. How have you been?" He crumbled the paper in his hand and tried to hid it. He hoped that Amelia hadn't noticed it yet but part of him wanted her to ask about it, because keeping this fake smile was hard. He knew it was going to be no use because Amelia was probably bound to notice. He cleared his throat and swallowed another large gulp of the punch. It was a great party, after all, he's been gone a while. "Sorry that I wasn't around that much, I had to go back to London for...personnal reasons. But the homework is swarming me right now." He didn't do to good of a job of hiding what was actually bothering him and he was afraid that Amelia would notice and ask him what was truely bothering him, in which case, he would have to tell her. "But...did you try one of the pastries? They are very good." He said with a small chuckle, he was horrible at small talk and he always has been. It has been so long since he's seen Amelia he didn't really feel comfortable around her anymore even thought he knew they were friends. After taking another sip of the punch an idea burst into his mind, about the quidditch team. "Did you make the team?" He asked, his fake smile was taking more energy than he thought and he looked down at his hand and found a piece of the paper was showing and he quickly crumbled it back in.

Amelia noticed the fake smile and Xurdion's attempt to hide what seemed to be a piece of paper into his robes. She also took note at how uncomfortable he was and what seemed to be his desperate urge to get away. "Ok, glad to hear that you're "alright"" Amelia decided to answers his questions before she dove into anything deeper. "Regarding the pastries I tried some of them and you're right they are delicious and regarding the Quidditch team I talked to the captain and she said I'm back on for another season. It's too bad about Kanita though. Apparently, she can't be Keeper cause of some personal reasons. It sucks we don't have a full team anymore."......

"Kanita was our best keeper as well...ugh, it's just not going to be the same without her. But at least you're on the team. Yeah, I know what you mean, if we had a full team the Slytherins wouldn't stand a chance." He said as he took another gulp of the punch that was in his hand. If he was more aware he would have realized that Amelia seemed to be watching everything he did. He did manage to notice one thing, though, she had noticed the piece of paper in his hand. He smiled and uncurled his hand. "Oh, this, um...This is just...the thing that I wrote all of my things I need to do later." He said, trying to come up with a half-way decent lie. He didn't want to push his problems onto other people so he hid the paper again in his hand. "So, do you know any of the plays we are going to do this season, yet?" He asked, his smile had faded because he couldn't maintain it anymore.

Amelia frowned. She knew darn well that Xurdion was lying to her and she knew that whatever information that piece of paper held on it, it wasn't good news and it defianetly had to deal with Xurdion's current attitude. "Look, I'm not one to push personal boundaries but now you're pushing my buttons. I tried changing the subject but that failed so you might as well spill it, what is going on?".......

"Spill what? I have no idea what you're talking about?" Xurdion tried to look confused but he knew that Amelia had figured him out. He swallowed hard and tried his best to not make eye contact. But it didn't work and he sighed. "Okay, you really want to hear it?" He didn't want to ruin her Christmas mainly because he got her a really great gift but she asked him. He reluctantly handed her the piece of paper. "It's all on there." He said as he went to go get more punch. Once he poured himself a new cupful he started to drink it down as if he was trying to drink away his problems. Then he returned to where Amelia was and waited for her to read it.

Amelia knew she had him because Xurdion gave up and gave her the paper he was trying to hide. Amelia opened up the paper and began to read. As her eyes ran from left to right reading what was on the page, she noted that it was a military letter that was worded in a stereotypical format when it came to writing to a soldier's family. It was a letter to inform the relatives that their loved one was killed in combat. Amelia's eyes widen and felt her heart jump into her throat. Turning to Xurdion who had a new glass of punch in his hands she said, "Oh my God, I'm so sorry." She really felt guilty for prying now. What horrible news to receive during the holidays. "I can guess that's what you returned to London for?" .....

"Yeah, so am I." Xurdion sighed as a wave of relief swept over him, it felt good that he didn't have to hid anything anymore. He closed his eyes and shook his head, he placed the glass of punch down on the table. "I had to go in my mother's stead. She didn't have the heart to go...I guess she already knew because she hasn't wrote me in weeks." A frown returned to his face and he could feel tears welling up but he held them back. "He always said that he would come back for Christmas...but that's another thing I shouldn't have trusted him on." He gritted his teeth and took a deep breath that was filled with anger. He clenched his fist and after a few moments he unclenched it and returned to normal. "But it's alright, there's no need to concern yourself with this unfortunate news. Which is why I didn't want you to know about it. Besides, I've got you something, or rather, made you something." He pulled a long, velvet, black box from out of his robe's sleeve and opened it in front of Amelia. It contained a diamond necklace that was laced with emeralds, sapphires, rubies, and amythist(?). "For you." He said with a smile, this one wasn't fake. He hoped that she would like it considering how long it took him to gather the ingredients and how long it took him to make it.

Amelia stood there awstruck as she stared at the necklace that Xurdion removed from his robes. "Oh my God, thank you." she said this time with a different tone of voice, "It's beautiful, I know you're an alchemist but wow I thought you were in training. This beats out professional work." Amelia said as she took the necklace from Xurdion. "I got something for you too, I sent a letter over to the jewler in Diagon Alley and ordered something I saw not too long ago while I was home and I immediately thought of you." Amelia pulled out a small black box and opened it. It contained a bright red crystal on a silver chain and a small gold pocketwatch. "The crystal is supposed to boost magical abilities so now when you use spells they have a ten times more powerful affect and the watch looks like a muggle one but if you carve the names of the one you love inside it there pictures will appear on the face of the watch and indicate to you where they are.".....

"It was really no trouble at all." Xurdion said, he was incredibly happy despite what recent news had befallen him. He saw what Amelia had gotten him and his eyes immediately widened, he took it and put it around his neck. "This is incredible! Thank you so much! This must have cost a fortune. I shall wear it always, thank you Amelia." He said, he felt happier and his voice was lighter and returned to it's normal state. The deppressing news of his father's passing had completely slipped his mind at that point and he was completely enthralled into his gift. He examined the red crystal that was fixed onto it with awe. "This is...incredible, quite simply. The gem that is fixed on here is one of the most rare crystals in the entire world. A power amplifying crystal...amazing." It glinted in the light and he could see light pulsing through it. "I just wish I could have made one for you. Unfortunately, it's illegal to make copies of this particular type of crystal and it would have taken forever to get the ingredients but still..." He smiled as he looked back at her and grabbed his punch that was on the table. "So anyway, have you heard about any of the new plans in quidditch?" The season would start soon and he would like to be well informed. Then again he had a lot of homework to catch up on but he wasn't concerned about that right now.

Amelia smiled one of the biggest smiles in the history of her entire life. She knew what it was like to lose a parent and no matter what had happened the pain was never easy to bear. She was glad to see that now he was beginning to enjoy himself at this party. "Well, when it comes to Quidditch we need to discuss plays with our other chaser. From what I heard are Seeker is pretty good and I'm not so sure about our beaters though since I haven't seen them play yet. With Kanita gone for now, I wonder who is going to be our captain. Any ideas?" ......

"I heard the same thing....our seeker is supposed to be the same one we had last year. Lori, I believe it was? Anyway, she's been on this team for a while so she would make a good captain OR we could put one of our names up." He emphasized the 'or' because he had always wanted to be captain but never had as much experience as some of the other players. "Our new keeper is going to be completely fresh, first year of quidditch. I just hope he's not completely incapable or tries to copy the moves of famous quidditch teams. Remember last years chaser that always tried to copy the Bulgarian team? That was a major disaster." He took a drink of his punch before continueing. "As for our new chaser, they promised us someone who had SOME experiance so we should come up with a good play. Kinda like last years, remember? The one were we weaved our way to the opponents goal post by passing between the three of us while we flew around? Except with a new twist so Slytherin won't see it coming, this time when we get to the goalpost, one of us goes behind it while one of the other two throws it onto the goal. Actually...no, how about the one with the quaffle fakes a throw then passes it to the other person while they throw it in? Eh? But then there's the other idea where we can be completely cheap with the third person that's around back, but it might be against the rules. The idea is that we keep throwing it into the goal while the person in back catches it and throws it to one of the other two..."

"Oh you mean like a hockey play where the player goes behind the goal posts and shoots it in? Except this time one of us goes around the posts, throws it back and then one throws it in." Amelia liked talking about Quidditch with Xurdion. Being on the team with him for almost her entire Quidditch career she never grew tired of hearing his ideas for new plays to fool everyone even fellow teammates on the pitch. Amelia laughed when he suggested the last play about one chaser staying behind the opposing goal post, "Yea, that would be cheating. Maybe we could set up a distraction, kind of like the chaser version of the Wronskei Feit. A chaser flys towards the goal post pretending they have the quaffle or they have the quaffle but does a nose dive tossing the quaffle to the fellow chaser behind them leaving them open to shoot." .......

"Yeah, kinda like that." Xurdion said, he pondered her suggestion for a play and smiled, it sounded good, great in fact. "Sure we could do that...but we need some sort of special word for all of these plays so the other players know what we're doing." He thought and couldn't help but laugh at his next thought. "We could also try and beat the Slytherins at their own game, you know, get the beaters involved." In truth, he made up the play he was about to describe over the summer but it was as a joke because it would be foolish to attempt unless you have practiced it many times. "What we need to do is yell the name and do the weaving technique to get the quaffel around, then the beater tries to nail the keeper with a bludger while the chasers get multiple points. Then, to add some style points, the person behind the back flies out and goes toward our goal but throws it straight up in front of the person that is in front of the middle goal, that person flips and kicks the quaffel into the goal. While the second person goes around back and grabs the quaffel when it goes through and we do the multiple points thing again but this time through only one hoop so it's like a game of pass. After which we finish off by getting the quaffel through all three hoops and go back so the Slytherins might have a chance. I know, it's complex and crazy but imagine how cool it would be to actually do it! Then again, we may be called out if the keeper is truely hurt but..." He had to admit he enjoyed his quidditch discussions with Amelia because no matter how crazy his plays are she always appreciates them and the team tries them out.

"I agree, we don't want to get banned from the Hogwarts league. Personally I think we have the best Quidditch team in the school because not only are we great athletes, we have the intelligence to come up with some fairly decent scratch that, awesome plays." It was true that some of the plays Amelia and Xurdion came up with were crazy but yet the team always tried them out. Yea, there were times when some plays didn't work or got them into trouble but there were also times when the plays were pulled off perfectly and because of the creativity that went into them, those plays would be talked about throughout the school long after the Quidditch match was over. "We really need to talk to Lori about this because what good is a play when only two members know about it? We need the input of our third chaser." ......

"Lori should be around here somewhere but we don't know who the third chaser is. Besides, the person that really needs to know about it is the captain, which we don't have yet. I've heard a rumor that Lori doesn't want to be captain, apparantly it's to much weight to carry around." In truth he was rather hoping he could be captain but he knew that Amelia probably shared his same hope. "I think it would be best if one of us was Captain, I mean, the team is loyal to us, they accept us, listen to us, even when things are crazy or will likely get us kicked off the quidditch team. Most of the players have been on the team since our second year and our plays are partly what makes the Ravenclaw team so...pure awesome. Seriously, you should try out for Captain...although they are looking for someone that is more than just a leader, I hear it's pretty tough." He looked pretty anxious for a reply, he was confident that he was going to try to be captain but putting a in a good word with the person that assigned all of this would be rather hard. He took another sip of his punch and he continued to ponder, his teeth felt as if they were coated in a sugar before he realized how much he drank. It was to sweet and it was starting to taste like bland water which was not good because when Xurdion gets hyper people need to stay back. "Anyway, the point is that this year we're going to pull even crazier plays than we have in the previous ones. Things that only have been rumored about but never attempted. That should get us the quidditch cup this year." He said with a smile as he imagined them holding the cup.
