...Zen? What the hell? Dreizehn didn't dignify that with an answer, instead satisfying his need to watch over his songbird by walking close behind her. As he got farther from the area of the island he called home, he began closing in on himself more and more, hunching over and swinging his head from side to side as he scanned the woods.
Songbird, little songbird... Once, twice, three times he flexed his hands, though he was careful not to undo her hard work on his paws by lacerating them again. Once more, he used her as a focus, shoving all of his errant thoughts through her eyes--how he thought she would see them. It was foolish, so foolish to loathe being away from that hovel so. There was nothing there that made it any better, any safer than anywhere else. With some effort, he irately pinned his ears back, focusing forward, wings folding and unfolding slightly as he walked.
Four times, five. They must be getting close.

Alexis noticed how he seemed to fold in on himself and how he had dropped back slightly from her side and she wondered if he was alright. Hoped he was alright. It's ok beautiful creature, it's ok. She thought as she looked back at him and gave him a soft smile as she paused only for the briefest of moments for him to get close enough that she could take his paw in hers.
"We're almost there..." she said in a soft sing song way, giving his hand a little squeeze. She then looked down at Mikaela who stuck by her side even though this area was a lot more familiar to her. "Mikaela can you tell Dark that I won't be coming back to the manor, that I'm okay. Please?" She asked the girl hoping Mikaela would understand that Alexis wasn't going to the manor completely.
Mikaela looked up at Alexis when she addressed her and her ears flattened slightly, she understood but she didn't like it. Didn't like how Lexy thought she had to leave because of how the others that lived there treated her. "I'm a miss you Lexy," Mikaela said nuzzling her legs. "When I old enough to really explore the islands I will find you again, I will visit."
She then turned to Driezehn and smiled slightly tail wagging, "take care of her Zen, please. She deserves to be happy and that is clear when she is with you." Mikaela then gave Alexis one last nuzzle and took off down the path nearby which would take her back to the manor.

Dreizehn let her take his paw, following her...well, as dociley as he could manage, knowing that they were drawing closer and closer to other audios and people. He didn't like other people. He wished they would die. But as much as he'd meant those words last night, they didn't ring quite true in the light of day. He just had no inclination to continue on, stopping just behind his songbird when she finally came to a halt.
He didn't realize how worried he'd been that his songbird would fly away with Mikaela until after she'd bid her goodbyes to the girl and this Dark person. Her soft smile, just for him, helped reassure him, even though his first thought was still to make a beeline back to the cave where he'd settled. He didn't like it here, so close to others. Vaguely, he realized that Mikaela was actually talking to him.
At first, he didn't do anything to indicate that he'd heard her other than twitch his ears in her direction, but when she said that Alexis, his little songbird, was happy with him, he (gently this time) tightened his fingers on hers. Reassuring himself. Reassuring her, maybe. Despite Mikaela's use of that horrid nickname, he gave a tense nod--of course he'd take care of her. She was his songbird, his anchor, his life. She was his.

When he squeezed her hand she couldn't help but smile and look into his golden eyes. Quirking her head to the side and then the other she gave a small laugh, "it's ok, everything is fine, I'm not going anywhere, whether you want me to or not, you're stuck with me." She said in her sing song ways but this time her words, her thoughts weren't as broken up as they had been earlier that day when she had been deeper in her hole then she normally was.
"Come now... lets go home..." she said kissing him on the cheek and then turning to head back in the direction from which they came. Home to her would be anywhere he was, even just standing here she felt like she was at home because she was with him, but if home for him was that cave then, the cave is where they would be.

Listening to her, Dreizeh could hear a difference between how she'd talked earlier that morning and then. It was more like she'd talked early the night before, when she'd first sumbled upon his path of descruction. He didn't have to wonder what he sounded like. Insane. You sound insane when you talk like that, like a caged beast pacing his enclosure. He knew, he knew.
"Lets go home," he murmured, though he hated it. As they walked, he glanced at their intwined fingers. What kind of home was he talking her to? The scarred cave, home of a madman? A monster? All of the furniture there--that still stood, anyway--looked as if it had gone through a tornado, scrapes and sometimes bitemarks in them, often missing chunks and legs. What kind of home was that for his songbird?
As he did so often, he felt ashamed--ashamed of who and what he was. A monster, not good enough for a songbird. But... A flicker of an idea came to life as he remembered, remembered that someone else used to live in these woods. Someone other than him. He'd seen this creature--this man-lion as it'd left everything behind, plunging into the darkness that was Etoile. Perhaps...
After walking a few moments in the direction of the cave, he paused, sniffed the air a little, and then began walking in a different direction. He could still remember where it was. If the man-lion had not returned, perhaps it would be a more suitable cage for his songbird.

She walked along side him in silence. So many different thoughts went through her mind that she didn't know what to say so silence was her friend, something that that she had been friends with for a long time. Though she enjoyed his company more then she had ever thought she could with another being.
She could tell he was lost in thought but even then she didn't know what to say. Though she knew it would take time for the two of them to get used to each other. As they walked along she noticed that they changed direction moving away from the cave where they had been at this morning. Glancing over at him she gave him a soft smile, "where are we going?" She asked him curiously.

"Going? Going, we're going home, little songbird," Dreizehn said softly, still stopping periodically to look around. He could tell he was getting closer; the surroundings were starting to feel more familiar though he wasn't on his way to his cave dwelling. After a moments more of searching through the forest, he found a faint trail--what had been a well beaten path to the gates of Etoile years ago. The man-lion had walked here, not returning the last time. He'd probably died on the other side of those dark gates, but then, that worked out better for Dreizehn, so he didn't mourn.
Leading his songbird through the clearest part of the trail, he finally came to the cabin. It wasn't large, grand, or even well kept at this point, but even his untrained eye could see that it had much potential. With the windows shuttered and boarded, nothing (else) would have gotten inside and it would still be clean, if somewhat stale. Though the roof sagged in its worst places, it had no holes. The lock on the door would be no problem, either. A little nervous, he turned to his songbird, brushing his hand against her cheek. Dropping his hand and letting go of hers, he made his way up the stairs and onto the small porch, looking down at the pitiful lock and deadbolt only a glance before yanking the door open, the bits of metal clattering to the ground.
Poking his head in, he made sure that his initial thought was correct--what furniture there was was covered in thick plastic and layers of dust and grime, but it appeared in at least reasonable condition. Taking a deep breath, he couldn't smell anything but stale air and dust; there was nothing and no one here but the two of them. Turning, he dipped his head, gazing at the ground.
"Gone home." We're home. It was as if he couldn't quite make himself say it, not yet, though the words were on the tip of his tongue.

"Oh!" she said tail swishing behind her slightly as they walked through the trees and into the small clearing with the cabin.
"It's lovely Driezehn..." she said in her sing song ways standing by him as he opened the door to the cabin and stuck his head in, she looked all around in basic aww. "Home."
When he finally turned to her again she gave him a big smile and threw her arms around his neck. "Home," she said again, sweet perfection.
"Pink on black on black on pink, home."

Dreizehn could have exhaled a relieved breath, knowing that she was satisfied, but instead he awkwardly wrapped his arms around her, still reveling in the novel feeling. Maybe...maybe it won't be so strange after a while. Maybe...maybe after a while... His thoughts trailed off; hope was a lot harder to hold onto than dispair, and certainly harder to hold than his songbird.
"Lovely," he murmured, catching himself just short of mimicking the colors she spoke, his arms tightening around her for a moment. She deserved something better. Something better than a demon, half-crazed with hate and lonliness. He fought the urge to shake his head, or shake her, because it didn't matter now anyway. For better or worse...
He pulled back a little. "Its not...a manor," Dreizehn grated out, his voice a rumble in his chest, "but its home." It will need a lot of work. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Swallowing his insecurity and the ire that followed quickly on its heels, Dreizehn released her with no small amount of effort.
"Well, come see your nest, little songbird." Even to his own ears, his voice sounded impatient, and he grimaced. I'm just sorry, aren't I?

Alexis turned her attention back to Driezehn having been distracted by the quaint quietness the cottage presented from the outside. She gave him a small smile and taking his hand gave it a little squeaze before following them into the cottage.
Looking around she couldn't help but smile, something she found herself doing more and more lately, all of which was because of and around him. Driezehn. Her Driezehn.
"Oh Driezehn, it's perfect." She said giving him a bright smile turning to look at him. In her opinion it really was perfect, everything was now with him. For the first time ever she actually felt at home.
"It needs a little tender love and care, but it really couldn't be more perfect," she wrapped her arms around him in a short embrace. She then let him go to explore the quaint little cottage some.
