This idea is somewhat lifted from Fa e.

Sure, Porcelain is fun and exciting now, but someday in the future RL might demand your full attention, you might get distracted by other hobbies, or the shop will just not be interesting to you anymore. If you think that someday you might disappear from this shop but would like your lovingly developed Porcelain's story to continue (or not,) here are some options for you.

When will your Porcelain be revoked?

Never. ... Well, not never. If you are blacklisted (for blatantly breaking rules, driving Setsushi or the lieutenants loopy with your bad behavior, and so forth) you will officially lose your Porcelain. In this circumstance (which will hopefully never happen to anyone,) generics are likely to be quietly retired, married Porcelain given to their spouses' players, and important metaplot-linked characters converted to NPCs and then maybe given away again later.

However, there is no activity requirement to keep your Porcelain. Assuming you have not been blacklisted, your Porcelain will never be taken from you unless you give your permission. Sometimes Setsushi will PM you if you haven't been playing or if you've been seeming to struggle with a character lately and as you if you'd like to give the character back, but you will not, under normal circumstances, lose your Porcelain against your will.

So, if you are inactive on Gaia, you won't be around to give your permission; your Porcelain will just stay unplayed, gathering dust.

Player Will

... Unless you make out a "player will." If, for example, your Porcelain is married, tied up in someone else's plot, and so forth, it might be unkind to other players to leave them hanging while you are inactive. In this case you may want to set up specific conditions for your Porcelain to be automatically taken from you when you've been inactive for a certain period of time.

It may be helpful to look at the Player Profile form while thinking about this.

Inactivity Procedures

What do Setsushi and the shop lieutenants do when you become inactive?

When a certain period of time passes during which you have not been on Gaia at all -- currently, three months, six months, or one year -- we will try to hunt you down via PMs and the alternate methods of contact you provided on the Player Profile form. If one month passes and we can't get a hold of you using any of those methods, we will carry out an automatic revocation procedure if you have given us permission on your Player Profile form.

Options for Automatic Revocation

You may be okay with the shop taking back your Porcelain and giving her to someone else to play, but you might be picky about who that person is or the circumstances of the giving. Therefore you can set detailed and personalized guidelines on your Player Profile form. Here are some possible options (though you could make up your own as well: )

Your Porcelain must go to a specific person: Her spouse's player, Setsushi, someone else, etc. If this person is inactive, blacklisted, or declines to receive your Porcelain, she will remain inactively yours as if she had not been revoked.

Your Porcelain can only go to someone from a specific group of people: List the people and the method you would like us to use to pick the person -- interviews? contest? random number? Anything you like.

Your Porcelain can go to anyone but the new player must be picked a specific way: Contest, probably. Or some other method that you specify.

I must receive my Porcelain if I reclaim.
You must explicitly specify this in your will in these exact words, "I must receive my Porcelain if I reclaim."

This is because under normal circumstances, when a Porcelain is revoked and given to a new player, the Porcelain is considered to be wholly the new player's; the old player has no official claim to her unless she has made this specification. If you do not specify this, Setsushi can beg, wheedle, twist arms, and moan on your behalf, but he cannot forcibly revoke someone else's Porcelain for you.

Remember that you can customize these as you like, put down something different for each of the three inactivity "deadlines," and specify something different for each of your Porcelain.

... Actually, this post is exempt from the requirement to read the Guide. Skip down to the next post unless you want to lose your mind.

This is a little guide to long-running inside jokes and the slang/patois of the Porcelain shop, including some general Breedable/Changing Pets parlance and some weird terminology we've developed in this island nation.

:>.....0:>.....>_> <_< >_>.....X3.....:ooooo.....and "MAYBE"
These all have the same meaning: "Setsushi isn't going to reveal a plot tidbit today."

:x
"DANCE, MY PRETTIES"

*adjust*
1. Monocle-adjusting gesture performed by Rika.
2. "Intriguing hypothesis."
3. "You're an idiot."
4. "Nice butt."
5. "My monocle is falling out again."
6. "Man, I need to pee."

bacon and egg
1. Misreading of the title of Green Eggs and Ham.
2. A sign that Boyan is about to curl up into the fetal position and start drooling on himself.

BLAHAHAHAHAHAHHhajsdakhdhkajwl
A remarkably consistent exclamation used by Setsushi to convey that he has just finished a paper, other assignment for school, or an in-depth piece of art or writing for the shop.

butt
The immature little brother of "bump": "Bring up this thread."

cert
Sometimes called "tags," though Setsushi tries to be consistent and call them certs. An image of a Breedable/Changing Pet with a frame and some basic information, at least the pet's name and the owner's name. Compare Porcelain certs and uncerts.

chibi
1. A character who has been cutely shrunk and deformed. Compare non-chibi and chibi.
2. A baby or child, especially in Breedables slang when referring to someone's offspring ("the chibis" instead of "the kids," "making chibis" instead of "having babies," etc.)

chibichibi
1. A chibi that is even smaller and more deformed than usual.
2. Offspring of a chibi.
3. A horrible little creature that climbs in your hair and underwear. Chibichibis are known to be promiscuous, violent, unsoothable, and (usually) inedible.

chibichibichibi
You don't want to know.

deep fried deepfry
1. RL!Setsushi's favorite food.
2. What Rika would eat all day if Setsushi didn't stop her.

Epileptic trees
From TVTropes.org: "A term for wild, off-the-wall theories." Bizarre theories to explain still-unexplained, mysterious happenings within a story. Except in Porcelain they might actually come true.

...HUH?
The only response to a backstory or plot-related question from Setsushi that almost definitely means "No."

naked
1. The state of wearing no clothes.
2. Hitsuga.
3. The (former) Mist Sorcerer.

*nests*
1. A common action posted by someone who is stopping by the thread but not jumping into the RP. Variants are "*nests in the thread*" and "*nests and watches [the current RP]*"
2. An invitation for DISASTER. See totem pole.

p_o
Rika emoticon. (It's a face with a monocle.)

plop
An RP post of dubious quality that has just been deposited in the thread or guild. Used by Setsushi instead of "tag."

plotbunny
An idea for a plot that is just too attractive to resist petting and feeding. Has a tendency to run wild, eating up your time and breeding at an uncontrollable rate.

plotgrunny
Green, mutated, flesh-eating plotbunnies native to Setsushi's head.

poorhitsu
50% of happenings in the shop.

poorsetsu
The other 50%.

Porcelain Red Herring Torture
Analogous to (the misnamed) Chinese Water Torture, a mode of torture interrogation in which Setsushi slowly slaps you with red herrings until you lose your mind.

RPer of fetus
Junyi.

Space Danish
The name Boyan invented for the so-called "Silver World" when it was revealed, by the Celestial Chaos using a food analogy, not to be the real Silver World. This term led to the creation of many others: space dirt, Space Toast, space jelly, Space Bakery, etc.

tag
An RP post. Specifically, the saying "tag" is used to alert someone to an RP post somewhere else -- one might say "tag" in an instant messager to alert someone to an RP post you made in the thread, or one might post "tag [username of person you are tagging]" in the thread to alert her to a post you made in the guild. Some people say "post" instead. Setsu says "plop."

totem pole
A situation in which three or more people *nest*, one on top of each other. The next step is to be toppled in a dramatic and gory fashion.

Tsu baiting
A method of retaliation for Porcelain Red Herring Torture. Consists of asking Setsushi a Porcelain culture or setting-related question or posing him a hypothetical situation, listening to him ramble on for several minutes, and then letting him know you weren't actually being serious.

uncert
An image of a Breedable/Changing Pet without the cert; the raw art without anything covering it. Compare Porcelain certs and uncerts.

... ... ... There are none.

There is no requirement to be active in the thread, your journal, or Guild roleplays. Unless you state in your Player Will that you specifically want your Porcelain to be removed after a set period of inactivity, there are no penalties or ill effects associated with inactivity whatsoever.

This applies to both roleplay and OOC inactivity. You are not required to "check in" in the main thread. You do not need to apologize about being inactive. You do not need to chat -- chatting does not endear you to Setsushi, who is not a chatter. The thread does not need to be bumped -- though new people can come quest if they wish, we are not specifically looking to add more players (there are over 40 Porcelain already.)

Heavy bumping will bury in-thread RPs and Porcelain-related discussion, making these things harder to find. It might, therefore, be better to take chatter to threads that need to be bumped, like other shops... or certain art request threads.

Inactivity Notices

However, the shop will send out generic "inactivity notices" about every three months, to check on people who haven't been around at all for a long period of time. If you receive an inactivity notice, you do not need to do anything -- there are, as stated many times before, no penalties for inactivity. You can delete the message without replying, if you like.

The purpose of these inactivity notices is only to remind you about Porcelain and to invite those who are avoiding the shop for some reason to tell us their concerns so we can help fix any problems. There is no "punishment" associated with this process.
