Insignificant Moonlight
I think people need to be more tolerant of others and just leave them alone. There would be less problems if people just let people believe what they believe and get on with their lives. I really don't see the big deal people make about people having different religions. People can believe in whatever they want. Its all about acceptance, something not many are capable of. ._.
But that's not necessarily true. What about religions that do a great deal to control women? For example, many extremist sects of Islam mandate that women cannot leave the house without a Burka (however that's spelled) on. I personally think it's wrong to be accepting of such a religious sect. What about the various cults that have convinced all of their members to commit suicide? Should we just accept that and be tolerant? What if a religion comes up that requires violent animal torture and sacrifice?
It is my opinion that you can't simply sit by and passively accept other religions the way you suggest because there is a tendency for those with power in those religions to abuse it, and no way is this more visible than in modern Islam and the various fanatical extensions of it. And simply saying that those are fringe extremes does not disprove my point, it disproves yours: we CANNOT just tolerate religious behavior the way you say we should because of these extreme elements.
And if you think it's just a fringe with Islam, the whole Muslim world erupted over a series of editorial cartoons that depicted Mohammad as a parody. The artist received thousands upon thousands of death threats, and there were riots all over the world. Much of that religion is extremely zealous, and I don't think it's right to passively accept such behavior.
