"Hm, did you think I kissed you?"
Einar's face broke into his toothy grin, his eye merry with mirth and a laughter spoiling his voice. He raised his right hand and pressed his index and middle finger against his thumb, mimicking a pinch.
It was obvious now about what he'd done to cause a confusion in Shee, the combination of his face leaning close to hers and the pressure on her lips sending perhaps a certain signal to her brain. Einar wasn't sure what Shee had thought at all, but he was amused with himself.
"Isn't it amazing that when a person closes their eyes they can experience one thing and think it to be another? The human imagination is really amazing, don't you think?"
He moved his fingers open and closed, like he was doing the 'baby shark' or 'alligator mouth' that many children liked to do.

The colour in her cheeks deepened to a red as she flushed with anger.
She was going to have to reevaluate her opinion on Einar again.
"Well, that's what you wanted, wasn't it?" He was so... stupid. Shee didn't really know what had been going through her mind exactly-- she had been confused, she knew that-- but thoughts of a kiss had flitted through her mind at one point. And been squelched moments later by black holes in her memory. "Yeah, the human imagination really is. For a moment there, I'd almost imagined you to be a decent person."
Shee crossed her arms and pouted, glaring at Einar, her bright blue eyes alive as they stared him down.
"Why did you do that anyways? Just to be mean?"

"I guess you're right. I'm a horribly mean person who does mean things just for the thrill of it."
Eianr slowly got up from his crouching position, turning his face away from looking at Shee and directing his expression towards the distance. If the young girl could have caught his face before he rose and looked up, she would have probably gotten one of the rare smiles that Einar could muster when he was being honest with himself and others.
He didn't really have anything else to say to her, she probably wouldn't understand anyway, and so Einar simply stood in silence for a few moments before he pursed his lips into a slight curve, releasing a gentle whistle.
The single whistle turned into several notes, stringing together to form what seemed to the chorus to a song. A lullaby perhaps, or an old folk song, but whatever it was the way the notes swung up and down seemed so melancholy, so full of despair.

"Well, you know, from how much exposure we've had to each other, I could believe that." She was still angry, but the colour was fading fast from her face. She caught the sarcasm in his voice and it forced her to think a little more on the situation. So-- why had he done that?
She continued to glare as Einar stood up and looked away. He was smiling. A true, non-predatory smile. Shee blinked and her expression melted from one of anger to one of absolute confusion. He started to whistle, and she found herself saying, almost surreally, "No, stop. Don't do that. It's too sad."
And she realized she wasn't sad anymore.
Shee took a deep breath and put her hands on her hips, leaning forward to tell Einar she meant business. "Hey! That was mean. It worked, but it was mean. You could have done something else, you know. Like... dance like a monkey, or go say hi to Estrelas. Or something funny. Kisses--" she punctuated the word with a turn of her head, making a jingling noise as wind rushed through the little bells on her earrings, "are serious business. They mean that you have some sort of affection for that person." Shee sighed. "I was going to give you a kiss, 'cause you said you liked them, but then you had to go and ruin it all." And with that, she closed her eyes again and twirled around, turning her back on Einar, lips still adamantly pushed outwards in a small pout.

"I agree, kisses are things you shouldn't give away so easily. A kiss is something you treasure with the person you're sharing it with, something to perhaps make a memory worth keeping over."
Einar stopped whistling his tune and turned to look at the full pout of Shee's lips, and he reverted from his sheepish smile to a wolfish grin. The girl he spoke to was so childish he'd wondered her age many a time as the evening had progressed, knowing that whatever it was she had to be younger than him. Naturally.
"You didn't honestly think I'd take a kiss in return for measly story. If I ever wanted a kiss from you it'd be one that was freely given and not one used as a bargaining chip. Even someone as horrible as me has some sort of pride as a man."

"So why do you joke around about them so often?"
Shee whirled around again to face Einar as he spoke, unable to assert even a small amount of control over herself and maintain any sort of composure. "I wasn't going to give you a kiss because you asked," Shee continued, her voice full of exasperation, "but because, like you said before, you remember it as a sign of affection from your parents." She pursed her lips at Einar's grin. "You didn't think I meant it like that, did you? On the cheek!" Shee found herself pointing at his cheek, and had to resist the urge to get a little closer and poke him in the face.

"More or less to see how people react given a certain situation. You seem to be the type who wears their emotions on their sleeves, figuratively speaking."
Maybe Einar didn't really know why he did or said the things that often came from here, maybe he was the type to act and speak without thinking it over properly first. It certainly didn't seem to bother him no matter what came along as a result, and he liked playing each moment by ear.
Worked thus far in his life, anyway.
"Oh, so you're saying you were going to kiss me for another reason then? Simply as a sign of parental affection? Seems a little odd to me."

"I guess I do. Is that a bad thing?"
It was just that she felt so much freer in the LOTUS compound to act any way she wished. Maybe she was too emotional at times, but she much preferred that over the (admittedly) regal stoicness that Wraith seemed to possess in spades. She admired his emotional control; it was just something she wasn't able to do herself.
Shee wanted to scream, but instead settled for a brief noise of impatience. She did have some control, she supposed. "Maybe it's just you. No one else here is this... depraved? No-- perverse. It's like everything you say or do is just to be contrary. You know, I'm usually not that bad. Yeah, I think it's just you." Pausing to breathe, she went on. "See? You always take everything the wrong way. I mean, as a sign of familial affection, in the sense that we're sort of like a family. Or in a platonic sense. I just said that because you have a special, comfortable sort of bond with parents. And I hoped that maybe we could have some sort of comfortable bond too. But I don't even know if that's possible!"
It was dark now, the lights scattered among the plumeria and underneath them the only source of light in the garden.

Einar had to blink a few times or so to let his eye adjust to the change in light source, the sky growing darker and the pool lights granting the only bits of illumination. He didn't know why he was still hanging around now, he most likely should have left Shee long ago, but Einar for some reason or another stayed put. A mistake, probably.
Maybe it was because he liked being berated by others, as it reminded him of his place in life, or maybe it was because the wrath of a spurned woman was something he didn't want to chance by walking out before he was either given permission or forced to go. The reason at this point in time didn't matter so much as he sighed and ran his hand through his hair, pausing to scratch his scalp.
". . . I...gah, never mind. Nothing I can say at this point in time will get you to calm down. Women who are pissed off are next to impossible to get back to normal."

Shee looked at Einar incredulously. Did he actually wonder why he apparently couldn't get her to calm down in the same breath as uttering those words? He looked almost defeated; she felt the insane urge to laugh.
"Well, of course they are, if you say things like that to them!" Shee couldn't hold it back any longer, and began to laugh.
"Everytime we get to some sort of moment of normalcy, you say something weird!"
Her thoughts about Einar had shifted again. He wasn't mean; he just apparently didn't have any tact. And, apparently, from what she gleaned from his comments, it was a gender thing.
"Do you have some sort of problem with women, Einar?" Her anger had faded abruptly, and she now felt a prickle of curiosity as she questioned him, half-joking.

"It's not that I have a problem with women, it's more or less I don't know how to deal with them when they get into more than one mood at a time. Guys are easier to read since all you have to do is start a brawl, and by the time you're done pounding the snot out of each other you're friends again. We're primitive that way."
Einar shrugged and rubbed the back of his neck, letting out only half of his true feelings on the issue. There were a lot of reasons Einar didn't get on well with women, none of them having to do with sexual nature of course, but more or less he just couldn't fathom them that well.
His only real reference to women was his mother after all, since he could only vaguely remember the personalities of the girls that attended his schools. The nurses that shuffled about the camps were he was at as well seemed to blend into the background noise with his memories, and he wondered why he couldn't recall a single female friend.
"I was sure I had at least one...I know I had to have had at least one. Yet I can't recall a single face."

"Really? And you speak from experience, I'm assuming. But not all women are that way. And not all men are that way either. You should go say hi to Ori sometime. Or Neph. It would be... interesting." Shee giggled at the thought of Ori meeting Einar. "You'd have to let me know when, of course. It would be awfully amusing to see."
Hearing Einar speaking, as if to himself, Shee frowned. "One what? One friend?" At the mention of memory, she clasped her hands together abruptly as she found herself beginning to fidget. "Oh, I'm sure you had lots of friends! But... due to extenuating circumstances, you just can't remember them at the moment! Right?" Cheerfully, she finished off the sentence with an expectant look and a smile at the man.

"No I think...it was always just me and Audun. There was never anyone else."
His fingers were resting on his chin and his lips as his eyebrow knit itself downward, his thoughts trying to hard to think of someone. It wasn't like there were gaps in his memory, everything seemed really lucid, so why couldn't he recall anyone he could call a 'friend'?
Oh, that's right. After his accident, no one wanted to be his friend.
Only Audun. Always only Audun.
"But yeah, I guess you're right. Well call it little brain blip and forget it about for now. No use stressing over things you can't remember, as your body sometimes does that to protect you. Or something."
Einar didn't seem like he'd convinced himself with that, though he knew he really did only have Audun. Before the accident, maybe others, but afterward, Audun.
And he didn't want to think too much on that.

"Well, you remember Audun! He seems to me to be a good friend of yours. Better than me, at any rate. I can't remember anyone!" Shee tone was still cheerful, at odds with the words she spoke. She leaned sideways, slightly closer to Einar and looked at him. "And now you have another friend! You do think of me as a friend, right?" Anxiety crept into her voice.

"I'm not sure I could ever forget Audun even if I wanted to or tried hard to. He's like a memory burned into my bones, you know? Well, you don't since you said you don't remember anyone so that was a dumb question."
Einar grinned at Shee and her nervous questioning of him about them being friends, and for a moment he thought about telling her no. It wasn't that they weren't friends, but he wasn't sure how exactly to file her under his list of people.
She was certainly not just a stranger now, so...
"I do think of you as a friend. I'd say you're something along the lines of how I picture a younger sibling as well, but let's stick to friends for now, okay? Just don't forget me."
He reached down as if to pat Shee on the head, his hand hovering lightly over her. Einar was slowly learning to be more aware of personal spaces and had always been very mindful in regards to women.
