Sure, it made money in its day, BUT when people found out how good it was (around the time S2 came out) it was to late, for S1 was not "big" enough for poeple to truely want a sequal. But seeing how i found out about Suikoden about 5-6 years ago, I can only say what I've learnt from hear say. Anyway back to what I came here for,
here's some info of Suikoden Tierkreis: The game is set in a parallel universe to the Suikoden world thus explored. As such, there are no returning characters (including Viki and Jeane) and no returning locations. The universe in the game is composed of an infinate number of parelel worlds. People and monsters can cross between these parallel worlds via portals called Gateways. These worlds appear to be converging.
Cheers, Aussie Elf.

I have to say I'm a bit disappointed in how it's looking. When I heard it was coming to DS I was really hoping it would go back to sprite's like in the original 2, since it's on a handheld with older graphical powers. Instead they took another giant bite out of Square's a** and copied the 3d chibi art direction of Final Fantasy on the DS, and worse yet, 4 character parties. And from what I've seen in the trailers the character designs are kind of bland looking, and all the expressions/high points of the trailers just gives the feel of extremely stereotypical fantasy anime.
This is of course all based on a few tiny 3 minute clips so I hope I'm just seeing the worst of it, but those are my thoughts so far. I'll eventually give it a try since it's a DS game which are usually cheap (unless they go square and charge 40... yuck), but yeah, I just can't seem to get hyped for this at all sad

I'm going to have to agree with you there, on some points. It really does seem like just another generic JRPG, which is why I now call Tierkreis Tales of Suikoden. While I heard the story is 'decent,' I'm pretty worried about the general direction of the game. Predictable plot twists like in most games, or ones that you usually don't see coming in Suikoden games (i.e., South Window captcha, Sialeeds)? While I'm excited to see a new entry in the series coming out relatively soon, I get the feeling Konami is just trying to make the series like other more popular series, in the hopes of sales increase.
However, the battle system doesn't seem to be a big let down. Apparently it's very fun! The drop from 6 character parties to 4 really shouldn't come as much of as a shocker, as the game isn't running on a very powerful system here... If we survived the change in SIV, I don't see why we can't do it again. I'm a little disappointed in the lack of the traditional power up the weapons, but never change them thingy, but as long as the weapons are cheap (lol 50,000 potch, I don't think so), I could really care less.
Really, I'm just sad that there are no staple Suikoden character returns.

We survived for sure, but I just personally didn't like the 4 character party system. Not because the numbers mind you, just because it's too damned simple. No strategy. Any character in any slot can be attacked by any other, with no defense boost or other benefit. In the original 2, you'd have weak or ranged characters in the back, because Melee fighters had to kill your front tanks before they got to you back row. In Suikoden 5 your formation type granted different benefits including a special team attack. In 4 and presumably this one, nothing sad (Hell even in Final Fantasy 7 you could have characters be in the front or back)
Admittedly though, that's probably one of the biggest downers. No returning characters (or nouns in general).

Looks like the whole cast. I have to say, I'm impressed with the cast of characters you can recruit.

Vengence of Areashine I wonder if there are any pre-order goodies. If you pre-order at Gamestop, you get an art book and soundtrack.

But isn't the 'artbook' inside the soundtrack disc? lol~ But good god, I haven't gotten my copy yet crying The Gamestop I pre-ordered at did not get it when I went to go and pick it up on the 18th. They made me wait 2 hours because the stupid UPS was late >_> I was pretty upset since I had to leave soon and catch a bus leaving to a different city. So now I'm Tierkreis-less ;< and waiting for my sister to bring it with her when she comes up to where I am. Getting so anxious to play >w< Also, I believe the artist is Norikaz Miura? Could be wrong though mad Can someone explain to me what this "Other World" I keep hearing about though? Is it like in a totally different dimension? Or is it just a different continent? So far, it seems like a different dimension to me.

I bought Tierkreis yesterday and started playing it after class today. It's a little slow in the beginning and takes some time to adjust to... it's not like the previous Suikodens, but it has elements of each.
It's definitely growing on me.
Kio Kun: I don't know exactly what other people's references to the "other world" have been so far, but during the game one of the characters tells you that there are basically parallel worlds to the one that you're playing in, and you're introduced to "gateways" that can warp you between worlds. So far, I haven't used one yet, but I've come across two. I'm only a few hours in though, so I'm sure this will come into play later.
