I like the idea of sectioning off the eggs. Maybe in groups, I don't think it'd be necessary to have a sanctuary for each egg type, but maybe clump three our four types in one sanctuary, three or four in another..and so on.
Good luck whatever you choose. smile

Glitchums What about seperating the members into 2 different santuarys and somehow managing to only let them be approved into one of them. That would cut down on the load, give people 2 different sanctuarys to view, but only one to post it! It could even go with like the begining letter in your Login name, like A-l names go in one, them m-z go into a seperate one, that way you would know who wasn't allowed and who was... I dont know if that would work because theres lot of names of some letters and not so many with others but I figured Id get vocal about this too, I love the egg santuary, its really conveinent! Please tell me how that can be regulated... People post dying eggs that aren't even theirs. People have mules. What's stopping people from joining this guild with mules in the other name sections and posting all their eggs in every thread? As was stated before, there are so many eggs that it's impossible to tell if the same person had posted eggs before. It would become a nightmare of crosschecking. Not to mention, it would cut the number of views received in half. For example, I'm especially capable of abusing this; I have many mules for various purposes (Breedables shop owners tend to have a LOT of mules), some of which are specifically for when I wish to run around without a reputation tagging along. Ideally, no matter how the solution turns out for this problem, we want everyone to view all the eggs. That's going to cause a lot of strain on the server, whether we somehow have everyone click every thread or if we have everything in one thread. With 14 posts we have enough space for over roughly 300 breeds. That's thousands of eggs in one page. If we split up the eggs into two or three threads, then the number of views given will drop dramatically unless we get everyone clicking every sanctuary. But if everyone clicks every thread, we're still viewing all those thousands of eggs. The server will still suffer under a lot of strain, and on top of that there's extra clicking. And people on the internet don't like extra clicking.

Out of curiosity, to fix the character limit thing why not use the tinyurl codes? I have always wondered why the codes aren't used now cause ti would save a ton of space in the post. And to Dranzer, I like the way you split the eggs up. Including some rares in each since the rares don't take up much space. And yes, we do need to think of the dragons to come when we organize this. What will happen come perhaps Christmas of this year if we have a dozen new dragons by that time? And after that?

I would guess that the tinyurls are forbidden because you can't just cut and paste them. The mod would have to check each one to make certain they really do lead to the cave.

I guess the old system for requiring the certain posting types was better to keep trouble makers out.

And people on the internet don't like extra clicking. it was just an idea that I was throwing out there, because I dont understand how things are going to change with the problems at hand, I think no matter what is done there is a possibility of problems later on... Or the idea doesn't float well with some of you guys, I dont like the idea of having them broke up in to seperate communitys wiith certain dragons because I do have all breeds and like to get all of each breed, so it would make it more difficult for me, especially since I click on every egg in the santuary when I post plus every egg at dragonspam. The "mule" thing is going to be a problem no matter how it gets done I think (that is if there is a limit to how many eggs you can have at a time) So Im going to sit back and watch and read and see what you all have to say! Good luck, I really love the egg santuary so I hope this gets figured out!

If tit's becoming over corwed why note make two or three. Some egss could be in one and other eggs in another.
For example: Red, Water, Storm, Rock; Gold, Silver, Paper, Dino; Pebble, Black, Skywing, Chicken, Split.
(i might have missed a breed)
But something like that could work and would prevent so page loading

24 current breeds:
Sick Chicken Paper Blue dino Green dino Red dino Yellow dino Gold Silver Split (two-head) Purple Pink Red Blue Green Dark-Green Black White Gray Magi Mint Stone Skywing Christmas (assumed to be seasonal)
Even with more breeds, the number of eggs isn't likely to increase any faster. We're all limited in the number of active eggs/hatchlings we're allowed to have on our scrolls. Yes, even if all 210 dragons in the Progress List make it onto the site. Unless the population of the guild explodes, they'll all fit on one page.

(note: tried to post this morning, and Gaia wasn't cooperating. Hope this works now even though I'm probably behind on the conversation) Lythiaren For whoever asked: The character limit on posts is 50,000 characters. My friend hit that limit once, while RPing. I'm still in favour of one single unifying sanctuary. No offence to fiwit, but the multiple sanc idea misses some very important factors: 1. Screen resolution: 2. How people use the sanctuary: 3. The advantage of having 14 times the space we currently have: No offence taken. For me to get offended in a discussion like this, you'd have to say something like: "Gah, Fiwit's idea is really lame!: or "Fiwit's an idiot!" LOL I didn't even think about screen resolution, and I'm usually on a laptop. (oops) That blows my "easy visual" right out of the water - it would still be visual, but not easy at all. I use the sanctuary exactly as you described in your post - have the front page bookmarked so that the dragons get views, and then post my requests. Thanks for telling me the limit. I know that the way the dragons are coded, it doesn't take long for the characters to add up. I'm a big fan of the one sanctuary concept, regardless of what ideas I've thrown out here, for the reason that Loku quoted in her original post. It's also easier for the users, because they still just come to the one sanctuary, and go from there. And if you can, indeed, reserve 15 posts on the front page, and each post has 50K characters available, that can only help the current situation (even though it would only be 14 posts for eggs, assuming the first post would still be the rules and examples). Un-named dragon codes are about 98 characters. Round that up to 100, that means we can fit ~500 in each post, right? (someone doublecheck my math, please). Times 14 threads is 7000 dragons. Can the Gaia and dragcave servers handle that load? that's a lot of images to load on one page. I'm assuming TJ won't release all the new dragons at one time, but phase them in over time (but we all know what happens when we assume). If/when it reaches the point that multiple sanctuaries are needed, maybe we could create a sanctuary sub-forum to make them easier to find. It's wise to plan for that eventuality, becuase I don't see how it can be avoided when there are 100 breeds of dragons. eta: and I didn't create the multiple sanct idea, I was just thinking out loud from other thoughts that had been posted.

I think that simply using more posts in a new Sanct is the best solution. That way, all of the eggs are in one place, and everybody sees them every time they visit. Sure, it may take a little longer to load the page, but I think we all agree that it's great to have all of our own eggs viewed a lot. Two separae sancts would just mean half as many views for everybody. (Well, maybe more than half, but less, anyway.) And an egg... because the person I gave him too hasn't posted him about. Loser. ~mod edit: 1.74 days and soft shell. Help this egg!

Okay, back to subject, I think you already know what you want to do, which is make on huge egg santuary and use all 15 posts, so just do it, all other ideas are being shot down, I dont know if the server can handle it or not but there is only one way to fine out! So if thats what you want to do, do it! ~Amber

Since the time between TJ having new eggs is very near, we need a decision.
I'm changing the poll and you guys will have to choose.

The more this gets discussed, the more I'm leaning towards the Single Sanctuary/Multiple Posts idea.
