Remus saw Marketa, and saw Sirius's sudden slack-jawed expression, and pieced together what he'd half-known since the first day of term. He smiled but said nothing, and turned to Wendy. "Whatcha readin'?" he asked coyly.

Sirius closed his mouth and stood up, knowing that - with Wendy there - Remus wouldn't mind if he sauntered off to go speak with Marketa. He peered around the pillar of books, and looked at her. "Need help picking out interesting volumes?"

Marketa had been completely engrossed in her reading, sucking on the end of her quill, but snapped her attention to Sirius as quickly and fiercely as she had to Wendy minutes ago. So fiercely, in fact, she accidentally snapped her quill in half with her hand. She could practically feel the bags and circles under her eyes and blushed.
"It wouldn't hurt," she said meekly.

"What do you need help with," Sirius replied eagerly, plopping down to sit next to her. He pored over the book with unfocused eyes, no idea what subject matter she was studying.

Everything, Mar screamed inside her head, blinking rapidly from the strain. She had been studying nearly non-stop since getting off the train, she was still behind in every subject, and it was starting to get to her.
"I...I could use some help in Transfiguration, if you have time..." she muttered, feeling her face heat up further.

He looked at the darkening circles under her eyes and smiled sincerely.

Mar kneaded at her eyes with the heels of her hands before smiling at Sirius wanly. It fell fairly quickly.
"We're talking more seriously about Animagi dan in terd year, getting more into de actual act of becoming one...and I don't get it," she said in a low voice, feeling more increasingly stupid each passing moment.

Ironic.
"Well, it says here," he acted, pointing at the book. "That the animagus you turn into - after mastering the incantation and state of mind, of course - is the animal that you are inside. The incantation is simple, but in order to fully change, you must clear your head of all things that aren't instinctual. Later on, once you've mastered it, you'll be able to transform without uttering the incantation, as the mind is already used to the act of changing."
"Don't feel bad, though - It's a tough subject. Only seven people have ever mastered it this century." Sirius looked away and muttered as an afterthought, "That are registered, anyway."

"I did some of this last year, too, I'll have you know," Wendy said, her voice playfully snooty as she inclined her head toward Sirius. "It's just vampires that get me hung up every time. Teachers never go into enough detail when they're trying to tell us about them."

Mar gave a small sigh as she raked a hand through her hair and stared at the book. She knew that. She'd read that. She just couldn't wrap her mind around the part about an animal being inside of everyone. In a last-ditch effort to just get it, she turned to Sirius.
"What animal is inside of me, den?" she asked wearily.
