Ariston bristled at bit in anger.

"Give me one instance where I've lied to you," he said, his voice low and humorless. He took a deep breath and evened out his emotions. A Mystic's honor was one of the few things they owned, and it hurt Ariston for Teles to think that he would, could, lie to her. His integrity was important to him and his work.

He sighed and raised a paw, pinching the bridge of his snout. It wasn't so much that he was trying to force Teles to accept that she was his Siren, more so that she seemed to have stopped believing in the impossible, stopped dreaming that there might be more.

"I suppose you're right. There could be others whom know of the Sirens and named children after them. Entirely possible. But would it be so horrible if you were? If you were great? Nobody is just anything. We all have something that makes us special. What's wrong with that? But there's an easy way to tell if I'm right or not," he eyed her critically and shook his head.

He didn't understand why Teles was acting this way. Almost as if she was afraid. But why?

"Are you afraid Teles?" he asked suddenly. He didn't mean it insultingly. He didn't want Teles to feel fear. There really wasn't any reason to be in the first place. "I'm sorry if I myself seem ignorant, but I don't understand why you're acting this way. Would it really be so terrible to be different from everyone else?"

Teles visibly flinched at Ariston's growled response, though she didn't want to. Trust was hard to come by, majority of the time, for her. Straightening, she raised her head and took a slow breath, letting her dark gaze rest upon the star-flecked fox.

He tried to puzzle out what she was feeling...saying things in attempt to make her feel more at ease. Unfortunately, it only seemed to make her feel more ill-at-ease. She didn't want to know what way he was speaking of, to see if his theory was right or not. She flicked her tail and tightened it around her forepaws, the normally soothing action giving her no support this time.

His abrupt question caused her to blink quickly...and his last made her snort humourlessly.

"I've been different from everybody else my whole life. I can't say whether it's been a bad or good thing. I can say it's caused me both grief and a certain amount of peace. If I was "great" as you've put it, it doesn't erase, nor does it make the grief worthwhile. It does nothing for me, other than sticking something alien out for others to see. They will shun me for it - but I can handle that, it's not as though it hasn't happened before. Others will see me as something to study, and they won't leave me alone. They'll want to test me in any way they can think of. Test me, when I have no clue what I am, or what I've become, myself. I refuse to become some sort of lab rat, an experiment, for the amusement of others."

Teles watched the Mystic carefully. She was undecided as to whether Ariston would be one of those wanting to examine her if it were true... She hoped he wasn't, being Tael's foster brother... But one never knew. Mystics apparently craved information and knowledge...so who was to say he wouldn't? Teles pinned her ears back a moment, the tip of her tail just twitching back and forth.

Ariston blinked. And then blinked again. And again. The circuits weren't firing, connection wasn't being made, signal lost. Completely lost.

Patience. I have to have patience, he reminded himself. Patience, unfortunately wasn't as forthcoming as he would have liked it. He pinched the bridge of his snout even harder, trying to get his thoughts to come into one tight understandable group instead of flying around like a bunch of mosquitoes.

She was, in a way, right. There were always people wanting to take advantage of 'freaks' in the world. Those whom wanted to 'poke and prod' as Teles had so aptly put it. Ariston was not one of them. More importantly, Ariston did not belong to a society that condoned such behavior; at home with Crimson and Taelence or with his fellow Brothers.

Teles, hard as it would be for her, would have to drop her guard and just trust him. Even if she wasn't his Siren, she couldn't go her whole life without depending on someone. What better place to start, but with someone completely and entirely safe.

Well, maybe he wasn't entirely safe. He was male after all. And she was female...and attractive.

"Teles," he began. "Lets just, for argument's sake, lets just assume, assume, that you are my Siren. That would entitle you to my protection. My protection includes never letting anyone you don't want near you, myself included. There is no possible way that I would ever let anyone poke and prod at you. Ever."

He sighed and continued.

"And if you aren't my Siren, if you aren't anything but 'ordinary' which you aren't by the way regardless of a magical past or not, I still wouldn't let anyone hurt you."

He couldn't look at her for the next words he spoke. They were personal and heartfelt; he felt a little embarrassed to say them.

"You being...'special' doesn't make you a freak, make you less than who you are to us. To me. In the end, shouldn't that be the only thing that matters?"

. o O ( This is my last reply, far as I'm concerned. x'D Feel free to make another post, Crim, to finish it up on Ariston's side if you wish. If not, that's okies. )

'For the sake of arguing...' Teles nodded slowly, allowing Ariston at least that much, though she felt her face heat at his next words. His Siren. His. The words made her stomach flutter--nerves, she told herself. It was only nerves at the trappings of his words. The bonds, the ties, they held in those words.

"I..."

She was shellshocked. Completely, utterly, surprised. And humbled, oddly enough. And very, very embarrassed, as was clearly seen by the blush upon her dark cheeks. She tried another word, only to stop there, too, and she finally stewed in silence for a while.

"Yes...thank you..." She sighed, completely defeated, but not completely disappointed by it.

Maybe...maybe it wouldn't hurt to trust Ariston. It was what Taelence wanted, after all. Still, Teles knew deep down that nobody, not even Tael, could make her trust another fox, and this decision was completely her own to make. Heaving a sigh, she attempted to calm the blush upon her cheeks by watching the stars once again, shoulders slumping into a more relaxed position.

-= (( xDD <33 ))

Ariston sat quietly studying Teles. She was accepting but not broken. But he didn't want to break her. Part of Teles's charm was her stubbornness.

He knew that her trust was something that would take time. But he was willing to wait. Something told him that Teles was very much worth it.

So maybe we'll just take things slow then, he thought. One thing at a time.

Like watching the rest of the meteor shower. That was something they could do. Together.

It's going to be ok Teles. You're different. And I like you that way. I won't leave you. I'll be here for as long as you want me.

Forever.
