The Banshee nodded as Fiero signalled that he couldn't talk at the moment. Peanut butter had that effect, not that she ate it anyway. It was sticky stuff. She didn't seem repulsed at all at his drinking from the carton. Secretly Mr. Van de Burg did that too. He told Envy it was his little secret from his wife then winked at her. It always made her giggle.
Then Envy just.....blinked as Fiero said he would hurt the person who was hurting her. Because...he cared about her. Something bit her, deep in her wounded heart. He cared. But....would he always care? Would he find someone else he cared about more? Then stop caring about Envy? He said he cared once. But He lied. But Fiero didn't love her...not like He had loved her. So maybe it was different.
"Envy not know who. It happen after she die. Before orb. She punished for bad thing. It was very bad. Envy...have many lives before orb. All bad lives. Always hurt. Always remember bad memory. Of bad man and bad woman." She was opening up, not really realizing it as she tried to help Fiero understand why she was punished.

Fiero looked a little taken aback. He had not expected Envy to take his offer of violence seriously. He would, of course, be glad to take on any foe in the defense of loved ones, but he had meant it as a joke. Ah well.
"How many times have you died?" Fiero almost asked. But he didn't. What he said instead was, "Well, everyone does bad things. If that's the punishment for wrong-doing, I'm quite glad to be an elf, and not subject to the eventualities of the afterlife for some time. Unless I do something stupid, of course, and get myself killed prematurely."
"I don't care how bad you were, anyway. It's an unreasonable punishment. Have you ever heard the expression, 'Let the punishment fit the crime'?"

"Envy does not remember. But all lives bad. She orphan in one, die of disease alone. One life she killed by parent. Bad lives." Envy shuddered a bit. She didn't know how many lives she had lived since her crime, mostly because she tried to forget all the bad things that had happened to her. Fiero didn't seem to understand why she was being punished. She sighed a bit.
"Envy tell Fiero what she did. But Fiero will hate her if she does. Envy is scared." She wrapped her arms around her ribbons, like a child curling up on herself when they are scared. To be a small as you can, that's the idea. Because if you are small, people ignore you.

Fiero personally felt that being an orphan was rather beyond a person's control, and not evil in and of itself. Parricide was a rather detestable act, but sometimes it was warranted, or so the Greek tragedies he'd read in abridged forms claimed. Still, they didn't sound like they had been particularly great lives.
"Envy not have to tell. I like you good or bad. Friends not care. Only tell if you want me to know," he signed, making ihs facial expession reflect his earnesty in this.
He was bothered by the sight of Envy curling in on herself, trying to become small and insignificant. He wanted to make her feel better, but he wasn't really sure how to go about doing that, or if there was even anything he could do. Maybe this was something only Envy could solve. Maybe Wendell could help - he was her guardian, after all.

Did Envy want him to know? He said friends didn't care and that he was her friend. Wendell had told her she would have to start trusting again, and to trust someone other than him. So she had a choice to make..... "Envy.....tell you."
She first cleaned up the kitchen, never one to leave a mess. She also used this time to think about how she would explain this to him. She was young and Fiero may not understand love. So she would do the best she could. Once the kitchen was done, she took Fiero's hand and floated back to her room. She turned on the little side lamp and sat on the bed. This way Fiero could see her hands.
It was now or never. She took a breath, as if about to begin a long story.
"Envy was pretty girl. She happy, have friends, have boyfriend. She love boyfriend a lot. He always say he love her too. He say Envy his only love. Envy's heart feel so happy. One day Envy come home. Boyfriend is with woman. He kissing her. He tell Envy he not lover her any more. That she ugly and other woman is pretty. Woman is mean to Envy too. Laugh at her and say boyfriend is hers now. Envy's heart hurt. Hurt so much. Feel like it break and cut her up inside Envy cry, but boyfriend and woman only laugh....Envy get very mad. Take blade. Envy....make boyfriend and woman...dead. Then....Envy make Envy dead."
Her story over, she waited for Fiero to respond. Was she a bad person? She wasn't sure any more. With all the pain she had lived through since then, she had really forgotten.

Fiero watched Envy clean up, and allowed her to take as much time as she wanted, waiting as patiently as he could, though he was truly dying of curiosity. He waited, though. He had said that she didn't have to tell him, and she had decided to do so anyway. That meant that she would tell him on her terms, or not at all.
So he allowed himself to be led to her room, where he floated by the window, giving Envy as much space as she needed. His instinct was to hug her and tell her that everything would be fine, but he didn't think that would be the best tactic. Not with Envy. Once she began her story, he was certain that he had done the right thing in not hugging her.
Her story wasn't that different from many he had read about or watched in a movie. It was difficult to picture the Envy he knew killing people, even when provoked. but the person she was then was different. The Envy he knew was very conscious of others, which was not so different from story-Envy, who obviously was capable of deep caring and powerful emotions. When she reached the end of her story, he had to fight to keep from grinning at the predictable ending to the tale. Somehow he had known it would end similarly.
"It seems to me," he said softly, not signing because he didn't want to be misinterpreted, "that you suffered more from very, very poor judgment in that instance, which was understandable, considering. I mean, your solution was far from logical, and definitely a permanent solution to a temporary problem, but grieving people aren't the most logical of beings."
He sighed, pulling his shoulders up to his ears and letting them drop heavily. "You're not a bad person now, and I don't think you were a bad person then. Maybe a little stupid, but not bad. And now you're not even stupid." He finished with a grin.

Fiero.....wasn't mad at her? He....didn't hate her? While she didn't think he could understand how she felt he seemed to realize she had just made a mistake. A deadly mistake but a mistake anyway. "Thank you...for not being mad. Envy lose friends when she tell before. They think she evil."
She tucked herself back into bed, feeling better. "Envy go sleep now. Dream only come once, not come when go back to sleep." That was the one blessing about the dream, it only came to her once a night. Then she could sleep peacefully for awhile. "We go shop for food in morning. Then go to amuze park."

"Pleasant dreams, then," he bid her.
He wondered, as he returned to the couch, how many people she had told and lost as friends. Wendell probably knew, and he was obviously still enamored of his muse. He had never met Clara, but she seemed too loving to think ill of Envy if she knew. The same for Wendell's other friend, whose name escaped him at the moment. The male one.
He stretched out on the couch and pulled an afghan over himself and fell asleep easily.

Envy slept peacefully for the rest of the night and woke up in a better mood. Thankfully the dark curtains kept the sunlight out. She hated the early morning sun for some reason. She quickly showered then went into the kitchen. She snuck by the sleeping Fiero and tried to decide what to do first.
Maybe she could still make them breakfast? Scrounging around she came up with enough to make them all scrabled eggs and toast. But that was pretty much it. She also made coffee if Korea had any, thinking that if she did then she drank it.

Korea rolled reluctantly out of bed in the morning, as was her habit. She never sprang out of bed energized and enthused for the coming day. It was always a battle between her nagging conscience and her love affair with her pillow, comforter, and mattress. Being rather soft-hearted, her lovers would never nag her or complain that she wasn't being attentive, and so her wicked conscience usually won. Every morning she hoped the pillow, comforter, and mattress would fight back, and ensnare her permanently in the Land of Nod, but it had yet to happen.
"Nngh..." she grumbled as her ears, more alert than the rest of her, detected sound from the direction of the food-place. Kitchen. That was the word. God, she hated mornings.
She stumbled to the bathroom and turned on the shower, nearly walking in while still wearing the oversized t-shirt which served as her pajamas most of the time. She remembered herself just in time. When she emerged from the bathroom, she was much more human.
Fiero didn't wake until he heard the shower running for the second time and was struck by how unusual that was. The shower usually only ran once in the morning, when Korea showered. Then he remembered: Envy was staying with them. She must have been either the first or the second of the shower users. He hoped there'd be hot water left for him. He had the longest hair of anyone in the apartment, and keeping it clean and healthy was high on his list of priorities, though he didn't mention it to anyone. He wasn't that kind of gay.
When it was his turn, he, too, showered and washed his hair, pulling it back into a long ponytail when he was done blowing it dry. He never pulled his hair back wet, because that was bad for the hair. Caused breakage, he had read somewhere, and he was very proud of his long, fiery-red hair. Not many people had that color naturally, and very few people could easily grow their hair as long as his was. It was his duty to keep his hair looking good, for everyone's sake. Yeah, he was a bit vain about it.
Because they were going out, he slipped into the room Envy slept in and pulled on a pair of jeans which rode very low on his hips and a pale blue t-shirt which said TEH in the center. It had originally been Korea's, merchandise from a favorite comic strip of hers, Questionable Content, but he had appropriated it after reading through the comic and becoming enamored of it. Kore had let him keep it because she was nice like that.
Fully dressed, he went into the kitchen and greeted its sole occupant, Envy; Korea had gone back to her room to change into normal clothing. He could hear her muttering curses at everything around her as she couldn't find something to wear which appealed to her if he listened closely.
"Good morning," he said to Envy.

"Good Morning Fiero. Envy make breakfast. She hope you like eggs." The little Banshee placed the plates on the table. She hadn't put anything in them, not knowing what each person would like. Cept for hers, she had added cheese. She cleaned up quickly since there wasn't much to clean then sat at the table with a glass of milk.
"Does Korea like eggs? Envy make some for everyone." She remembered the coffee and set a cup of black brew at the place Korea had sat the night before.

Fiero wasn't sure how he ought to answer Envy's question about Korea's breakfast preferences. He'd never seen her eat eggs that weren't hidden in something else, though he'd never heard her specifically say that she didn't eat eggs. Maybe the opportunity never came up? To his knowledge, they had eggs because Ewan was of the opinion that Korea should have eggs in her refrigerator and had made her buy some the last time they went shopping together, which was some time the week before. But that wasn't the real problem.
"Korea is not human enough to eat in the morning," he said, signing what words he knew. "Mostly she drinks lots of coffee. I don't know if I like eggs."
He'd never had them before. They didn't turn up very frequently in the living space Korea kept.

"Eggs good. Good with cheese. But you try without first. Then add if like." She ate her food like a kid, the fork looking far too big for her but she managed well enough. She even got a milk mustashe. She wondered what the human would be like in the morning. She had seen her at night and in the afternoon, but not the morning.
Suddenly the phone rang. As if it were a sixth sense, Envy floated over and picked it up. It was Wendell!
"Hello? Envy? Is that you?"
She tapped once on the speaker.
"Oh good. I was hoping everything was ok. Did you sleep well?" One tap.
"Very good. I made it to the Netherlands. Mother say hi, as usual. Are you eating ok?"
One tap.
"Ok good. You haven't hurt anyone have you?"
Two taps.
"That is a good girl. I need to talk to Korea, can you hand her the phone?"
One tap. With that tap she floats back towards Korea's room and knocks on the door, the phone in her little hand.

Fiero intercepted Envy on her course to Korea's room and relieved her of the phone. He assumed from her behavior that it was Wendell. No one else would have any idea what the tapping meant. And, besides, he couldn't help overhearing what Wendell said, his ears were sensitive. The voice had sounded nothing like Wendell's, but that was probably because there was an ocean between them. Which made him wonder what Lysander's voice really sounded like, but he pushed that thought out of his mind. He had sworn no to think about Lysander while Envy was staying with them.
"Wendell?" he asked, without waiting for a response. He wasn't going to have Envy go into Korea's room. She really was a bear in the mornings. "Koree, it's Wendell. You might want to get human in a hurry."
Korea snarled something inarticulate and stuck her hand out of the door to receive the telephone, which she snatched from Fiero's hand before closing the door firmly. Fiero turned to Envy and rolled his eyes. Then he floated over to the table to try the eggs. He didn't particularly care for the smell, he decided, but the overall taste and texture wasn't unpleasant. All the same, the next time Ewan made Korea buy eggs, Fiero was going to protest.
In her room, Korea cradled the phone between her cheek and her shoulder and said perfectly normally, "Hey, what's up? How's Europe?"

Invidia nodded as Fiero stopped her. She hadn't thought perhaps it would be rude to barge into someone's room this early in the morning.
The boy on the other end sounded very tired, as if he had been lost for many years. Voices could be heard behind him, muffled as if they were behind a door. In truth, Wendell was hiding in the bathroom to try and get some peace from his realtives. "I wish I was adopted. So I don't have to be related to these people." He sighed. His family was all very happy 'lets all hug' kinda people. And that wasn't exactly Wendell.
"I just now got to use to the phone or I would have called earlier. Then I remembered the time difference. I hope Invidia is behaving herself. She's not being a problem is she?" He sounded generally worried about his little ward, having to leave her so soon at a near stranger's house.
Meanwhile, Envy was making a list of things she needed from the grocery store. She remembered they were suppose to go shopping this morning before they would go to the amuze-park. She was excited about the prospect.
