Buona sera! Um...sorry, I don't know much Italian, cause I'm trying to teach myself from books (very hard.) I agree with the comments saying that Italian is similar to Spanish-I'm learning that as well by myself-if you listen to some of the words, they are very close to each other: gracias/grazie, mierda/merda (sorry if I offended anyone with those two, but they ARE similar) buones (can't spell-sorry)/buona, etc.

CPMForceobsessor I just started taking Italian I this year, and I have a very stupid and basic question. Could someone give me a basic overview of word order, preferrably when pronounds and adverbs are involved? My book and teacher weren't very helpful. well...it's difficult...because in Italian it depends on which adverbs/pronouns you are using. If you need help pm me and ask me more specific questions.

spanishnerd99 Does anyone know the difference between a Northern and Southern dialect? Actually you need to be more specific! all i can say is that northern people tend to open more the words while southern close them!!! Most comonly used is the northern because of the media wich is mostly based in the northern part of italy!! MILANO ROCKS

Amadastor Piangi? Does anyone know what that word means? I'm running crew for the Opera La traviata, and the entire thing is in Italian--so I understand bits and pieces of it with my Latin, but I really don't have the vocabulary, especially because I've been translating the Aeneid, and you need to know six different words and their connotations for 'sea'. So, I have very few conversation vocab words. Sadly, I came in during tech week, which isn't a surprise really, but I don't have a score, which has the translation in it. However, I would really like to know what "Piangi" means, because...Alfredo's father, I'm not sure of his name, sings it at Violetta about six times. So I'm curious. Thanks to anyonew who can find out! Piangi? comes from the verb piangere wich means to cry so when you ask a person piangi? it means are you crying??
