Nitogumi My mom's really cool about my lolita obsession. She lets me wear stuff to school, and out to dinner and all that jazz. She even likes my corsets. Which is crazy. And she buys me fun tights when she sees them in stores. I'm sorry you're mom isn't as cool as mine. heart Me and my mom were shopping a few years ago and she saw this gorgeous black lolita renaissance dress and insisted on buying it for me. She didn't have to insist very much wink Quote: I'm sorry you're mom isn't as cool as mine.

PsychodelicPenguin gremlinita Though I don't own any loli attire, I've shown it to my mother before. She thinks it looks 'silly' and she doesn't like how they make women have to look 'doll like.' which really bugs me, especially coming from the woman who would die to dress me in that stuff if I was still five. The dresses are pretty conservative, as she is, but she still doesn't seem to like them. I fear that she cares not about my interests, and would prefer me to dress the way she does. ._. ugh. Another thing she said when I had research information for a paper on Gothic lolita was "Don't ever become Gothic" then she went on telling me about some gothic kid who killed someone..... wheee. -_- once again, someone is mistaking gothloli for gothic.
On the bright side, my dad thinks it's a cool fashion. =3 He'll get me a dress too if I get straight As.
My parents clash. O_o Oh yeah! I heard about htat on Court TV. Some "goth" kid in California killed a famous lawyer's wife. Im not sure WHY, but they were having a big discussion about whether or not he was in a satanic cult and what not. Whatever it may be, it was pretty hilarious. It's stupid how people seem to thic Goth is sooo bad. But you never hear them going "oh well this person dressed hip-hop style, he must have been in some Black Panther-type cult to have killed this person" Pishawww. Im tired of all of the negativity of goth, and lolita. XP It's funny that most real goths are against violence. It's the mall-goths and mansonites that act that way.

But..then again... she doesn't frown at it. =o
It's just...I keep trying to get her to buy me it, but lolita's an expensive lifestyle. xp
Aha! 4 minutes later: Hee, just showed my mom an American Lolita store, and she had me send her the url incase she wanted to buy me things from there! Sweet! heart whee

My mom once told me that as long as I didn't wear something that was immodest, against our religion, or just because I knew she would hate it, I could do anything I want. Even get a purple mohawk, or something.
I love my parents. heart

I'm new to the Lolita style, so I don't know all that much about it, but I'm avidly interested. That's a big deal, because I hate shopping for clothes--I'm that nerd who always goes to Barnes&Noble. So, I don't know if me and my mom have the same tastes in style or not, because we don't really go shopping together. Makes sense, she loves clothes. But so far, I think that our tastes are veeerry different, because I often don't agree with what she wears and what she likes to wear, and most of all, what she wants me to wear. So I don't think she'd take to Lolita very well.
...But then again, my mom's really nice and flexible about a lotta stuff. Maybe she'd be excited at the fact that I like any sort of clothes at all. I dunno. However, she doesn't really like dark stuff. On the other hand, she thinks that Japan's fashion styles are pretty cool...I think? Great. Now I'm all confuzzled about my mom. @_@ Sorry, I'm ranting now.

I told my mom I was only dressing EGL for a con, but now I'm begining to wear clothes that look suspiciously EGL more and more often... ninja
I while back I doodled a picture of a gothloli dress I really liked, and my mom asked why I didn't buy it. I told her it was very 'spensive, and she told me that making my own dresses wasn't much cheaper, and also labor intensive. I think maybe she's opening up to it more. (That, or she really wants me to stop my sewing projects, which is also very probable. lol)

In general, people outside of the Japanese youth culture will have a tough time accepting the Lolita style. The only place where I see anything more outlandish and decadent is on the fashion runways, but majority of the time what you see on the runway does not direclty translate to what is worn on the streets. In general, street style is very comfort-driven and, well, a bit dull. It's perfectly understandable that many people wouldn't be able to comprehend more... unique styles. It's just a culture gap. It isn't the parents fault, it's just that the society as a whole hasn't accepted it just yet, which is understandable since it isn't popularized and embraced quite so much here.
(When I say here I'm mainly directing commentary toward North America since that's were I live. I know there are plenty of funked out styles in places besides Japan, but the Japanese youth as a whole is well known for their very creative and extravagant styles.)

I think Americans were pretty kooky dressing till the 1990's hit. D: My mom is kind of reluctant and accepting now adays. Like I ask her about certain way I've been layering my shirts. I still feel so bland sometimes when i dress, I just want some different stuff so much. I just gotta work on my weight, which i feel is growing. @_@ have a ton of school work to do, and it seems like i'm never satisfied with what I'm eating lately. Like my body eats the food, but It doesnt really fill me up.
