Well, for a human bard it's 6 + Int. Mod x 4 for first level.
And 6+Int.Mod, every level after that.
So FOR MY OLD CHARACTER I started off with 36 and everytime I level up I get 9.
But.... You can only have a max. of 4 in any one skill the first time. Then a max of 5 level 2 Then a max of 6 level 3 - etc.
So right now I can have a max. of 9 in any one skill. But there are a bunch of skills that only have '2' or '3' ranks in them, while others like 'perform (stringed)' [Since I'm a bard, and my first intrument was a harp] have 9. (Diplomacy, Disguise, Perform (stringed), and Sense Motive are the only ones with 9 ranks)

They're easy enough to find in the D&D Player's Handbook. 3nodding
First level = (6+Int. Mod.) x4
My Modifier for Intelligence is +1 (Plus one to modifier for every two points above 10)
So the skill points I start off with for first level = (7)x4 = 28.
And every level after that I get 7 skill points. keeping in mind I have a max of 4 in any one skill ....
Bluff - _= (mod)_ + (ranks)_ + (Misc Mod)_ Desipher Script - _= (mod)_ + (ranks)_ + (Misc Mod)_ Diplomacy - _= (mod)_ + (ranks)_ + (Misc Mod)_ Disguise - _= (mod)_ + (ranks)_ + (Misc Mod)_ Gather Information - _= (mod)_ + (ranks)_ + (Misc Mod)_ Knowledge (insert which here) - _= (mod)_ + (ranks)_ + (Misc Mod)_ Perform (insert which here) - _= (mod)_ + (ranks)_ + (Misc Mod)_ Sense Motive - _= (mod)_ + (ranks)_ + (Misc Mod)_ Spellcraft - _= (mod)_ + (ranks)_ + (Misc Mod)_ Use magic Device - _= (mod)_ + (ranks)_ + (Misc Mod)_ Use Rope - _= (mod)_ + (ranks)_ + (Misc Mod)_
(Misc. Mod being things like Feats, and such - ex: my current Bard has an Alertness feat, giving her +2 to listen, and +2 to spot.)

(no misc. mod yet - so I'm not including them here at the moment)
Diplomacy - 5 = 1 + 4 Gather Information - 3 = 1 + 2 Knowledge (History) - 5 = 1 + 4 Perform (Song) - 5 = 1 + 4 Perform (Dance) - 5 = 1 + 4 Sense Motive - 5 = 1 + 4 Spellcraft - 3 = 1 + 2 Use magic Device - 3 = 1 + 2 Use Rope - 3 = 1 + 2

Perhaps you people are not simplifying it quite enough...An easy way to do this might be to just specify a limited class list, then what those classes could do or are good at, strying away slightly from the D&D norm. For example: Rogue would be a sneak, light armored light weaponed combatant. Gaining 5+con modifier in hit points per level, +1 bab per every two levels, so on so forth...

The whole system would require a bit of work for whoever would take up the task, but this could be a rewarding experience.

Hmm, I think I got lost halfway through that. I'm going to have to sit down with the Player's Hadbook and read that section tonight. Like the 1 plus 4 equals 6 threw me a bit, and then why in one post you said you had 36 points, but then the other post said 28.

Proclaimer Rye Hmm, I think I got lost halfway through that. I'm going to have to sit down with the Player's Hadbook and read that section tonight. Like the 1 plus 4 equals 6 threw me a bit, and then why in one post you said you had 36 points, but then the other post said 28. *laughs* Ooops! redface Appearntly my math skills after 9pm are non-existant ... I'll go fix that.. sweatdrop The 36 vs. 28 is my OLD character - Adwen Tarmikos, vs. this new one who doesn't have a name yet. sweatdrop

Well...I got started making an EXTREMELY basic version of D&D...I think I'm half done. Figured that it was a good idea since lots of people are interested in playing but aren't familiar with the rules...And you have no idea how difficult D&D is to teach over the internet. I will post the information on it once it is completed, which will be sometime within the next week I hope. So far, I've eliminated the skill and feat system, as well as ability scores. It's all level progression. There are 4 base classes, Warrior, Mage, Healer and Expert, and each base class has 3 path choices at level 6. Unfortunately this is pretty well the only customization in this system, but it's simple.

Yeah ... Umm.. Rye? He's come up with a completely simplified system, and dubbed it 'Not D&D' appearntly ....
But he'sthought this thing out INSANELY well - and you should really take a look at it.... he's already got just about everything figured out - in like 24hours! eek

Warrior: The basic melee or ranged fighter, ready for combat at any time. They are easily the most versatile combatants in mundane combat, capable of using any type of weapon or armor they are given to fight with.
· Paladin: A trained warrior blessed with divine might, a paladin is a zealous combatant with the power of their diety at their side. Capable of smiting their foes in the name of their diety, even infusing their bodies with divine power, they are a powerful combatant.
· Berserker: Howling in a berserk rage and tearing through ranks of enemies, more then one soldier has wet himself at the approach of this warrior. Weilding two handed heavy weapons and spinning in a whirlwind of death and fighting until their very last breath, they are among the fiercest combatants.
· Swashbuckler: A master at fighting with two weapons at once, dipping, diving and spinning. Using their skill with light weapons, they hit with great precision and deadly force.
Mage: The most frail of the base classes, the Mage is the only base class with any spellcasting ability. Capable of blasting away foes with force missiles and other magical effects, they are a boon to any adventuring group.
· Enchanter: Inciting bloodthirsty rage, controlling the minds of others and enchanting the weapons of it’s allies, the enchanter is not someone to be underestimated.
· Battlemage: Laughing as he walks through the battlefield, bringing destruction down upon the ranks, the Battlemage specialises in the pure destructive capabilities of magic.
· Summoner: Summoning forth animals, elementals and even divine servants to their aid, the Summoner is far from defenceless.
Healer: A necessity for every adventuring group, the healer can remove curses, diseases and wounds from it’s weary allies.
· Priest: The true healer praying for it’s divine powers, the Priest can heal any wound, even death.
· Abjurer: Creating wards out of mystical energy, countering magic and protecting it’s allies, the Abjurer is the bane of spellcasters and defender of many.
· Witchdoctor: Stealing the life of it’s enemies for it’s own purposes, the Witchdoctor is frequently looked down upon. With it’s abilities to curse it’s foes and see into the future, the Witchdoctor is the one of the most dreaded enemies.
Expert: Extremely skilled in ways other then combat, the Expert is aptly named. Using skills to a greater degree then any other class, they are useful in many situations.
· Thief: Adept at stealing, stealth and dealing with traps, a thief is a boon to any dungeon expedition. Having a knack for getting out of even the tightest situation, more then one person has said their capacity for dumb luck is astounding.
· Assassin: Appearing out of the shadows, stalking it’s mark, an Assassin is aptly named. Poison dripping from it’s blade and stabbing into the heart of it’s foes, they are viewed as dishonourable and underhanded.
· Scout: Good at tracking and specialising in ranged precision and minor magical abilities, they are as they are named.
