Remus turned to Sirius with doleful eyes that showed his canine counterpart too much for his liking. "Letter from dad," he muttered. "Mum decided to come home again." He turned his stare to the ceiling. "You understand mother-hate Pads; what do I do? I don't want her to leave and hurt dad again, but I don't want her to stay and watch her flinch every time she looks at me either."

"Compromise," Sirius smiled. " 'Tis not even close to summer. No one's making you go home 'til then. You could stay at the castle for the short breaks; or come home with me and Prongs! Patiently wait and see if she sticks around until the summer."
Sirius knew all too well the pain Remus's mother caused him. At least Sirius was able to outright hate his mother - Remus couldn't even do that.

Remus nodded quietly, still fighting an inward battle. "I...I do wanna see her, Pads..." he managed to keep his voice at least a little level for just that long. "...I just don't want her to be afraid every time the full moon comes." He abruptly dropped onto his back and rolled over so his back was facing Sirius. "Well this was nice goodnight Pads." He then squeezed his eyes shut, thinking You are waaay too old to be acting like such a baby! Suck it up, man!

"What a friendly chat," Sirius said darkly, marble coldness running off him in waves and getting the better of him.
You have no idea what his feeling, you insensitive dolt!
Sirius sighed. And pulled some chocolate out of his pocket. If there was one way to make Remus feel better, it was chocolate. A limp gesture, but still.
He chucked it, letting it fall perfectly on the other side of Remus's pillow - right in front of Remus's nose. "I'm sorry mate, I didn't mean it. Hopefully things will work out in time. Feel better."

Remus flinched with surprise as the sweet landed in front of his face, his eyes crossing just to focus on what it was. He felt his whole body relax, glad that Sirius had not thrown a dungbomb. He sighed quietly, realizing that he had probably sounded a bit like an arse earlier. He turned his head only slightly, not wanting Sirius to see his face (he had to keep some manly pride), and said "Thanks Padfoot," with a scratchy voice

I've been standing here stareing at this stupid portrait for the past five minutes. I must be loseing it. Lux thought as she stood in front the Fat Lady's portrait. The Fat Lady was fast asleep. She let out a sigh.
"Ok. Calm down Lux. It's past midnight so there should be no one in the common room. With luck you won't even wake up the other people sleeping in the dorm. You won't have to answer any 'Where'd you come from?' questions until morning."
She sighed again. What was her father thinking when he told her mother that she and Sebastian should finish their education in a school rather then at home?
"Stupid father....." Lux looked up at the portrait again and was suprised to see the woman in it glaring at her. Ah bugger. I must have woke her up. "I'm sorry Ms. I didn't mean to wake you. I'm new and I need to get into the common room." She quickly said the password that the head of Gryffindor house gave her. The portrait opened without response to reveal a dimmly lit opening. The fire must be dieing down. thought Lux as she hauled her trunk through the portrait hole.

Jen turned around the corner leading to the Fat Lady. She saw a girl trying to get in, and then saw the portrait open. She didn't recognize the girl, but followed her in before the portrait closed. She glanced around the room and only saw the mysterious girl and Lily. She smiled and headed over to Lily. "What are you doing up so late?" she questioned.

Anna said the password and walked through the portrait hole and saw Lily and another girl. "Hey Lily," she said walking over to her. She turned to the other girl and said, "Hi. I'm Anna." She hoped she sounded as kind as she thought she did even though she was in a bad mood.

Of course there are people in the common room. I have the worst luck. Lux was hoping to avoid any sort of encounter that night. It's hard enough going to school for the first time in your life without the added pressure of showing up in the middle of the semester. They never seemed to be paying and attention to her though. Lost in their own little world I guess. So she quickened her pace, with her trunk rolling along behind her, and made her way up to the 6th year girl's dorms.

Lux made it to the dorms after climbing a flight of stairs. She pushed open the door and looked around. All three beds were empty. Those girls in the common room must be the the other 7th years. After glancing around the rest of the room she made her way over to the unoccupied bed and put her trunk at the end of it. She then look out a pair of pink pajamas and put them on. While walking toward the head of the bed, Lux ran her fingers over the covers. They were very soft. She pulled them down and climbed underneath. The bed was already warm. Sighing, she looked out the window that was next to her desk. The moon was only half-full. Closing her eyes she fell fast asleep.

Jen looked at the girl. "Hey, I'm Jen." she looked at her watch, then added, "And I'm going to bed. Goodnight." She then proceeded to stand up and walk out of the common room up to the 6th years girl dormitories. She opened the door quietly and fell onto the bed that was nearest the door. After laying there for a minute or two, she rolled off the bed and found her luggage. She pulled out pajamas, changed into them, then got all snug in her bed. She lie awake for a few minutes, thinking of Sirius. A few minutes later, she fell asleep with a smile on her face.

Girls! Sirius hurumphed in his head. Do they ever stop the chatter, even this late at night?
He smiled serenely, with good humor, and flopped into his bed. Abandoning the thought of said girls, he wondered vaguely if Moony was going to be alright. It was bad enough he tortured himself about his condition to the point where he wouldn't pursue a pretty girl, but the whole bit with his mother was downright depressing.
His consciousness faded as the dorm grew more silent (well, aside from James's snores). Soon, Sirius was passed out.

Lily said "Hi," but then desided that it was probably time for her to be getting to bed to, even if she wasn't very tired. She went upstairs to the dorm, and presently fell asleep. It had been a long day, afterall.

The morning came far sooner than Remus would have ever liked; against popular belief, he was not a morning person. Sure, he usually woke before his mates, but he refused to actually rise and do something productive until the last possible minute. He opened his eyes, saw the bright glare of sunlight through the hangings he had forgotten to close, groaned, and turned over to land on something gooey. He raised his head with another groan and wiped at his face.
Melted chocolate?
Oh. That's right.
Remus looked over his shoulder at Sirius, feeling guilty for cutting off their conversation the night before. He had just been unable to talk about it anymore; he was a man, he wasn't supposed to talk about such petty things as his feelings!
