I not sure exaclty how God made tho wrld, other than he made it 7 days( or eons or whatever) and that He did it. I often think it is not important as to HOW God did it but the fact that God actually did it.
Just a quick thought: why do people get so hung up on the geneologies? The thing is, the Bible is a very very old book. We are missing pieces of it, not to mention it's be editted about six thousand times. Also, it's pretty widely accepted that the geneologies if Jesus are pretty much in there to connect him back to David- that's pretty much it. I think try to go back from Jesus all the way to Adam is silly. To think they got it all right seems pretty naive.
Don't be too quick to dismiss the facts in the Bible. To say that it is just a book of "guidelines" is to undermind its authority. I know of archeologists who have tried to find ancient sites based
only on what the Bible says and have actually found them. If you start to accept that the Bible is full of mistakes, you might start to think that God himself makes mistakes. The actual amount of mistakes based on human error are very few. Most "mistakes" are just things that people think can't be true or don't fully understand.

The two geneologies conflict because one is the geneology of Mary and the other is the geneology of Joseph. There are two different ones to show that Jesus came from the lineage of David on both his mother's and father's side.
