haha.. funnie..

lesse.. while i definately agree with the girls about just because we game doesnt be we are different race n all, ill try and give my opinion based on the male mind...

.. umm.. i like it when guyz take special interest in my 'gaming abilities'... let me borrow games.. buy me games for xmas, birthday, etc... and makes me feel good when i win, and still when i lose.. maybe even some pointers on games he knows a lot about without being too pushy.. but thats based on the male mind about 'gamer girls' having a certain preference.. were still human beings.. we have lives you know... whee

Hmm. Maybe it really is getting to be more socially acceptable for girls to get into gaming. I have a younger cousin, about 7ish. I've been opening up to her a lot more ever since I found out she's into gaming. She's got an Xbox and PS2 and she seems to be the closest person in my family I can talk about games with. Mind you, most of my family doesn't game at all, so being able to find a family member (so young and impressionable) was quiet refreshing.

So yeah. Looks like you just have to start out young. Hopefully she doesn't "outgrow" gaming or whatnot. But heck...you guys are what...16-18? If you somehow don't give up games when you enter college, you're set. In fact, I didn't really get back into gaming until after college when I got some income to support my hobby. Yes! Hooray for money!

Aww. Well, see there? That's nice. Almost sounds like a personal ad, but it's quite informative. I was wondering, though, how long it'd take for this thread to resemble an "official gamer girl hookup" thread wink

I can say what physically interests me in a guy: tall, pale, lanky guy. scruffiness a plus.

Mentally: intelligent dorks. preferrably to have familiarity with comic book series and be able to catch on quickly to my wit and witicism.

What happened to girls wanting a tall, lean, strong, broad shouldered, thin waisted, curly blonde haired, blue eyed, young, cultured, well learned, guy intersted in acting and other visual and performing arts?

Being a gamer girl was tough when I was younger. None of my guy friends would play games with me, 'cause I was a girl, and none of my girl friends played with anything but their hair and make-up. Now that I'm older, and have seen such a rise in gamer girls, it's much easier to find a guy with the same interests that understands that I might kick his butt at Tekken, or make him watch me obliterate Kefka again. I've always been interested in the "nerdy" guy, but also wanted someone who had interests outside of just pure gaming. Music, anime, politics and world cultures are all tops on my list of interests. As far as what a "gamer girl" is looking for, well that's tough. All girls are different, even if they share the same hobbies. I myself have always been "one of the guys", so it was tough for me to find guys that would look at me as more then that. If you think a girl has an interest in you, even if she's a "buddy", give it a shot. In general, most girls want someone that shares some interests, will tolerate the stuff they don't really like to do, has a sense of humour, and someone who can sit and have a conversation without pulling out their GBA 5 minutes into it. Of course, that's just my opinion. Just make sure you're honest, and don't be afraid to get your butt kicked playing against a girl. Oh, and don't you dare "take it easy" on a gamer girl just 'cause she is a girl. I hate that. stare

Oh, most girls still go for that I'm sure. The key, I think, is attracting gamer girls specifically. I attract all kinds of girls...none of them being gamer girls at all. As KamikazeFinn pointed out, tall, pale, lanky, and scruffy. I'm tall, but hardly pale, lanky, or scruffy. For a girl to be attracted to intelligent dorks is another thing altogether. Most girls like guys to be of the "cool" variety.

That there is good advice I think. And never have I ever gone easy on a gamer girl, though in general, it often discourages them from playing. The fact that I'm not holding back is a sign that I respect gamer girls as an equal opponent...even if the victories happen to be one sided.

That's the one thing that bugs me about my b/f. He refuses to play fighting games with me, 'cause he kicks my a** in games like Mortal Kombat and Virtua Fighter, but I rule at Tekken and Budokai. *sigh* He hates to lose, and also hates it when he doesn't have a challenge. He says it's boring when there's no challenge and he "feels the need" to take it easy on someone who's not very good at the game. >.<

Haha, that's some pride your boyfriend has wink Though, if I were playing someone who thoroughly beats me at some game, I'd work hard just so that I can beat him (or her) at his/her own game. Everyone hates to lose, but what people have to remember is it's up to you whether or not you lose all the time. Practice, improvement...ahhh. That's the stuff competitive games are made of wink

I myself am usually more competitive against the computer then other people. Some gamers get too serious about the whole winning/losing thing. I prefer to be able to beat the AI into submission rather than an actual friend of mine or something.

Well, humans (especially close friends) make better opponents than AI just for the sheer human tendency to adapt and such. Sometimes it takes a while before people come around as "good sports." Often, I have to force "trash talk" in a joking manner to remind them to lighten up, and that it's just a game and that it really isn't about winning and losing as a whole, but to play a game at their fullest to see what the result would be. Sometimes I have to make sure that when a friend loses, he has the mindset that it's only temporary, and someday (or even tomorrow) he will be the victor, and I'm the one who'll have to eventually catch up.

But oh well. It can be easy to misunderstand that competition is more about improvement than it is about domination.

Still on the "Girls can't game" steryotype wave -
In the summer before my 8th grade year (so long ago!), I went to a 3-week summer college course (Duke TIP - PM me if you've ever been there). As most smart kids are gamers, we had a Mario Kart (SNES) tournament. Aside from being the only girl in the tournament; no one expected me to even get past the first round (plus I play as DK - no one likes DK). It was a bit overwhelming. sweatdrop

I did, of course, win the tournament with all balloons remaining. biggrin

I hated some of the guys there. Not only did they judge me on my gender, but also on my age and choice of character! I'm not dissing gaming guys (on the contrary....), but it's those few self-centered, low-esteemed guys that can really bring the whole concept of 'multiplayer gaming' down around our ears.

So, yeah, power to the girls who don't give a s**t about what the guys say. 3nodding

Awesome. Power to us. I always play with Peach in almost every Mario game, like Tennis or Kart. XD I'm good with light characters. And guys tend to look down on me. One had the unfortunate event at making me change my char. from Zelda in Smash Bros. Melee (whom I usually play with) to one "normal" character. So I did, and still kicked his pixels into Mexico. biggrin
