Everything seemed to slow down. As if they were both running through water. And it felt almost like he was watching the impact as a bystander. But in an instant that sickening crunch of bones and muscle against one another as they collided brought everything back into perspective.
She had lowered her head, hitting him square in the chest. Valarauco had already let out a long breath of air a second before to keep from getting the wind knocked out of him. His long tail whipped forward, skimming the ground and kicking up dirt before it attempted to wrap around one of her legs. But with her head down in the angle that it was, all he did was lift his head upwards and wrap his neck back. Snapping his massive jaws forward to grab a hold of the back of it. Wings flared as a roar rumbled out from deep within his chest.
It had been too long since he'd last fought another. Especially more another of his own kind. But Zulimar had coaxed it out. You don't charge the bull.

She shoved her body upwards in a surge the moment he jerked his head back, slamming her entire weight up through her head towards his snapping jaws. Her tail lashed out, trying to smack his legs out from under him, even as he wrapped his tail around one of her own legs. She didn't have a chance to contemplate how to get out of it before her leg was caught, and she hissed, tilting her head up to try and press her teeth warningly against his throat. In so doing she would open up her shoulder to his teeth, but she would not attempt to tear into the tender flesh of him. Just a warning hiss. And maybe a teasing lick.

He saw his opening and in one quick movement the stallions sharp teeth were pressed against her shoulder, avoiding her head ramming upwards towards his jaw. Not enough to break the skin too badly, but enough to get a decent hold of her. His tail snapped back as he tried to pull her leg out from under her. Zulimar's own tail hidding against his legs, leaving a sting to the flesh but he kept himself focused so that he would not be brought down so easily.
Valarauco had to watch what amount of pressure his jaws put into her shoulder. If she moved to even try to rip his throat out with her teeth against his throat, he'd snap her shoulder in half then and there. His eyes turned into tiny slits as he tried to get a look at her. But it was slightly difficult from this position. Their heads wrapped around one another. It was like some odd sculpture. Wings flared out and in one swoop came down upon them both. Nearly wrapping them up in a thin, web skin shelter. Perhaps he could disorientate her with blocking out any sight of the world. It was worth a shot if it meant getting her away from his throat.

He jerked on her leg and sank his teeth into her shoulder at the same time. It was the sheer contradiction of the movements that was the only thing that kept her on her feet. Her mouth would open and another teasing lick would run over his throat before she laughed. To be honest, it seemed like a bit of a checkmate. She could rip out his throat, but he'd tear her in half in his death throes- a useless victory for her.
When his wings came up, she took the opportunity to gracefully extricate herself with minimal injury- she dropped her body as though she were dead weight, using her legs and tail as she fell to try and sweep him down with her.

Exerting this much energy and then the sudden rush of adrenline leaving his body as things slowed down took a small toll on the stallion. The skin along his neck twitched as she licked at it. It was an odd sensation, like she was tasting him before she was about to bite him. Like an animal cleaning a spot on the skin before they bit it.
He hadn't expected her to drop her body down. And he certainly didn't expect her to try to drag him down with her. Valarauco's tail held fast to her leg, but his jaw let loose of her shoulder. Front knees buckled slightly as he fell downwards with her. Wings whipping back and up into the air to keep from being landed on. And soon he found himself crouched down, front knees digging into the dirt.

His body was heavy, and she wasn't expecting all of his weight to land on her the way it did. Her own slimmer legs buckled under the additional weight dropped on her, not allowing her the spring she had been planning, and she gave an angry huff as her clever tactic was foiled. "You eat too much, stallion." her voice was pure acid. "A bad trait in one of our kind. It's a wonder you could even hover like one of the bug-horses."

"Hrmph...eat too much? I think I eat just enough to keep me at a proper weight. Perhaps your just too weak." Valarauco's tail smacked against the ground. Sending a cloud of dust into the air. Moving his body slightly, he slid to the side. Removing most of his weight from on top of her. But still letting it a bit linger there enough to keep her from springing up right onto her hooves. Giving her an advantage if he wasn't able to get back up off the ground as quickly.

She waited for him to get up before she rose herself. Battle had left her blood- she felt quite content in their miniature standoff. And the feel of the heavier body on her own pleased her as well, though that was something she brushed off. For now.
The heat of him seemed to linger on her, however, even after she rose and moved a small distance away. "So, stallion." she gave him a sharp glance. "You complain about the half-breeds that are filling the land, but have you done your duty to raise the number of purebloods?"
She wasn't asking him to try and hit on him, she defended herself. She was just... curious.

Climbing to his hooves, his tail flicked forward to brush away the dirt and any foliage that had decided to try and make a home on his body. Then he flapped his wings, dispelling anything that had decided to cling to those as well.
Valarauco watched Zulimar as she moved away out of the corner of his eye. Rolling his eyes slightly as she called him stallion. He did have a name after all, and she knew it quite well. Snapping his tail against the ground, he closed those firy red eyes for a brief moment. "Huh, there aren't many worthy enough to carry on my blood line if that is what you are getting at. At least none that I've found anyway."

Her lips curved in a smirk. "Is that what you tell yourself?" She leaned in deliberately, and nipped at his nose. "Keep saying that, Valarauco. It's not their worth, it's the quality of their blood. I am sure that there could, potentially, be many Others out there, worthy of being called kalona in their spirit. It's the fact that their blood is polluted that makes them unworthy of the name. And yet there are some, who by virtue of lucky parentage, are worthy of being called kalona, even though their hearts are not in the right places. You saying 'worth', Valarauco, insinuates you are looking more for quality of heart than quality of blood."
She shook her head. "You need to make up your mind."

"And that is where you have me completely wrong, Zulimar." Wrinkling his nose, he took a shuffled step away from her. "I look for both. And if one is not where or how strong it should be well--I'm sure you can figure it out from there." The stallion disliked it when she went off like that. Thinking she had him totally figured out on a certain subject and just jumping to conclusions. She might have spent a bit of time with him, but she truly did not understand what he was or what he was about. The Kalona mare only saw what she thought she saw or what she wanted to.

Her response to him was brittle laughter, with an edge of the imbalance which mostly took form in the hunt. "What you are saying then, is that you allow imperfection only when it is not there? What you have suggested to me is that you look for the perfect kalona blood. Unstained. Undiluted. And yet you have also suggested that it is not only the blood that matters, they must think like like how you believe a kalona should as well. There are plenty of pureblood bodies around here stallion." this time the word was full of disdain. "You can tell by the way the dirt-bloods grow in number."
She snorted, tossing her head. "I dislike that about you. You guide the conversation, make intelligent arguments and valid points. I share my assessment of what you have said, and you draw back like an angry puppy." she wrinkled her nose mockingly.

Another quick roll of his eyes came, but by now he had turned his back to her. Though his ears were still turned so that he could listen in case she decided to use this opportunity to take the advantage. "Indeed yes. And yes, there are many pure blood around, but that doesn't mean their way of thinking is correct. When, if ever, I have children I do not need some dilly dally mare spreading thoughts through their minds and having them stray to the lessers. I would hate to have to hunt down my own children and destroy them, but if I had to I would not bat an eyelash to the thought."
Shrugging his shoulders, he stared off blankly for a moment. "Then why do you stick around if you hate it so much? I hate the fact that you jump to conclusions about me and think you've got me all figured out when you don't. In fact, I'm not even sure why I stick around you either."
