The only part that Cedric felt he understood was that she didn't want any wine, so he busied himself putting it back up before sitting next to his bed. He looked thoughtful as she spoke and patiently waited for her to finish. Thinking he could get details from her dragon later, he was less concerned with figuring out how she came to be this way and more concerned with how she was doing right now. He sensed that she needed comforting and acceptance before things could fall into place.

"Well, you are safe here now," he said confidently. It was an exaggeration, but one that she needed. "It's normal to cry for the dead. You'll feel better later. Would you like to stay in here and rest?" The one thing he couldn't puzzle that he really needed to was if she needed to be left alone or if he needed to watch over her.

There was a knock on the trap door in the other room.

----

"A farm?" Lilith's pensive frown turned to bright-eyed excitement. "That's perfect. Surely we can get provisions from there." She bit her lip then, trying to force patience unto her countenance. She'd rather just go to the farm herself without consulting any one else. Yet putting themselves at additional risk was not something that they were ready for after a long journey. Giving Tesunie a worried look, she announced, "I'm going to see if he can talk to me now."

Lilith stomped politely on the closed trapped door that led to Cedric's living space.

Auri 'eep's in surprise at the knocking sound. Moving to the back corner of the bed, she looks at the door, her eyes wide for a second, but relaxes slightly once she realizes how innocuous the noise is, "silent." Was all she said.

Isk watched the woman go into the cave, when Auri jumped, so did Isk, but she quickly sent soothing thoughts to her bonded, letting her know who was coming and that she was still safe and loved.

Cedric saw the girl jump, but seeing also that she stayed put, he got up to open the trap door. Lilith blinked as she descended the ladder into the relative darkness. Only a few candles in recessed niches provided light, besides the sunlight that she had just let in.

"I'm sorry to bother you, but we are low on provisions, and I was wondering..."

Cedric nodded, "Oh yes, yes, of course." Soon the two adults were in the room right next to the bedroom, looking into the cabinets and shelves. "It's not much," Cedric realized. Just some preserves. "She took..."

Coming back to himself, Cedric sighed. "We'll have to go buy more, but it will have to be tomorrow."

"Tomorrow?" Lilith challenged, frowning, hands on hips.

Cedric closed the door to the bedroom, but this did not prevent Auri from hearing. "We won't have time to return before dark, and I'm exhausted."

"I realize that we are not the only ones who have had a rough time of it. But I insist that you let me take one of the dragons into the mountains to get supplies." A pause. "If you are exhausted, and you look it, then you do not have to make the decision. I'm making it."

"You can't just order the dragons around. And have you ever flown one?"

"I'll ask, and I'll manage."

That seemed to settle it, because soon Cedric was opening the door to the bedroom again, and Lilith was outside, turning to Isk:

"How would you like to go on a quick supply run? We can visit this farm or find something else."

Tesunie was in wonder for suddenly seeing so many dragons about. He hadn't noticed them before, seen as he was busy looking at the ground in front of his feet. He just stood there in silence, not knowing how to respond. He just stayed close to Lilith, the only person he felt he actually know at the moment. Then, even she was gone.
When she walked away, Tesunie didn't know what to do with himself. He just stood there, watching the dragons around. She wasn't gone for long however, and when she walked out of the cave, she seemed to have a determined and victorious look on her face. Tesunie didn't know why she looked like she had just won a war, but she seemed like she had accomplished something important.
"Umm..." Tesunie started to say, not sure of what to say. He was mostly saying something just to say something at this point...

Isk regarded the woman, 'You are not my bonded. She needs me. I can not leave her. And even if she were to come, I am not so strong yet that your weight would not be a struggle. To add supplies to that after I have flown so far the last two days carrying my bonded, we would likely both end up stranded.'

Auri looked up at Cedric when the door again opened. Getting out of the bed, she moves away from it, "I am sorry. I did not feel it for the silence. Sleep."

Cedric literally scratched his head in thought. "Yes, you can sleep," he answered, misunderstanding. Ironically, he was thinking that if she slept, he also could sleep, having no one left to watch over. He didn't mind sleeping outside on the ground. On second thought, maybe he could set Isk to the task of watching.

"Can you talk to your-- never mind, don't, if you can. You're too young." This time he rubbed at the stubble on his chin. "You must use your bond as little as possible until you are a bit older. Do you understand? You can talk to her just as well with your voice. No magic tricks." He would have elaborated further if not for the fact that the child seemed so easily frightened.

Cedric yawned. "I'm going to take a nap myself..." he said, promptly wandering off towards the ladder to the outside.

----

Lilith crossed her arms in determination. "There are other dragons. Can't you bring one of them here for me?" she demanded. She also had a burden to watch over, and yet lacked sympathy for Isk's position. "Your bonded will also need food eventually. What are you going to feed her, clovers?"

Auri looked after Cedric, wondering just what he wasn't saying, and feeling great frustration for not being able to tell. Alone again, she could feel Isk at the edge of her thoughts, holding that great curtain between her and the rest of the world. She could also feel her dragon's love for her. Sending her own love to the dragon, Auri felt some comfort. Now that she was alone, the disconnection of the silence wasn't as profound. It was almost as if she was alone. With Isk sending comforting warmth and love, Auri was able to curl up and drift off to much needed sleep.

-------------

Isk looked at the human, 'I am young and new and do not know the ways of this place, but I am quite assured that none would risk themselves for one to whom they are not bonded. You should await an adult, or the human, Cedric, who seems so respected. Perhaps even one who knows the places here. I do not mind being helpful and friendly, but I will not be abused.'

With that, Isk, knowing her bonded to be relaxing towards sleep, bounds to a higher position where the woman would not be able to snipe at her.

(lol)

Cedric wandered outside just in time to see Isk bounding away. He sighed, not wanting to ask why. "I'll be in the eastern dell," he announced before whistling. It shouldn't have worked, with as much trouble as Lilith was having with the dragons, but sure enough, one of the young ones bounded over to help him. He was soon mounted.

"Wait!" she called in frustration. "Take us with you!"

With a small chuckle he replied, "Some one's got to watch over the kids. I have other business to attend to."

"What about food, you ignorant chauvinist!"

"No need to get bitchy!" he laughed as the dragon underneath him started forward anxiously. "I'll bring some back!"

With that he was out of her reach and soon out of site. Lilith glared at Isk before turning to Tesunie. "Come on, boy, we'll see what use we can make of this little hovel." She led him underground.

Isk watched the two go into the cave, a slight growl suppressed. If they did anything to upset Auri, Isk would not be friendly. So she projected to the woman one last time, 'Bother my Bonded and you find your pressing desire for food to be immaterial.' Auri slept on, knowing Isk watched over her.

Tesunie followed, or was more like dragged by the woman he that was leading him so far. "We haven't been properly shown in. Should we really be going in there like this?" His protest was too little too late, as they had already entered into the cave before he even thought to make protest. He had grown so use to following, he never gave it a thought till now.

"Come in for all I care!" she shot back at the dragon. The door was small for a dragon, but one as young as Isk might be able to squeeze through if they could suffer the cramped conditions.

"No we have not been properly shown in, so if I seem a little cranky...!" She huffed, stomping around the dark place as she searched for any thing useful. All of the stocks had already been raided, however. "How can this man live like this??"

Between the stomping and the searching, Auri was awakened. Wrapping a large fur around her shoulders, she hesitantly moved to investigate. Her large eyes watched the two rummaging about, just in the opening between where she had slept and the supplies. She did not say anything to them, still not sure what was real and what wasn't, the odd silence in her mind causing confusion.

Isk, aware her bonded was awake, 'They mean no harm, only look for food. But I am here, if you need me, I will come to you.'

Auri turned her face towards the opening and Isk, though she couldn't see her through the stone of the cave. 'They are so quiet in their thoughts. Are they real?' She did not even remember Cedric's warning as she sent her thoughts to her dragon.

Isk contemplated Auri's meaning for a moment before she understood, 'They are real, their thoughts are there, but I protect you from them. You have had pain of others, so I keep them from you.'

Auri thought about that and did not reply.

Lilith eventually noticed the girl and suddenly felt ashamed. "We didn't mean to wake you," she apologized, her anger and frustration dying like a doused fire.

I just have no idea what's going on! she thought, but didn't want to say it in front of children.

Lilith sighed. "Are you still tired?" she asked. "I think we have all had a long journey. Since there is no food, and these stubborn dragons will not help us, perhaps we should all sleep..."

Auri blinked at the woman. "Dragons protect, shelter, silence. Sleep long from cold snow and death."

Isk merely kept her thoughts with Auri, giving comfort and ready to rush to her aid if needed.

Lilith pursed her lips, not pretending to understand. "Yes, well. Like I said. Rest."

She prepared the boy and herself for bed. She let the kids have the bed and the floor space, and she herself slept on the grass outside. Because they were a bit young and overwhelmed and exhausted, she didn't feel the need to worry about leaving a young boy and girl alone together.

She woke up to see a woman standing over her, with a long knife at her side. "Who are you?" she demanded.

Soon the kids heard the movement of many feet above them. Isk saw a small handful of humans leading many laden donkeys into the valley. Some one, for some reason, had brought supplies, but being human, they did not automatically explain themselves to the dragons.

Lilith soon found herself staring wide-eyed at a particular donkey. Although also carrying food and the like, this one sported a cage. A cage full of tiny people.
