Such a lore list would be a good idea, but for my sanity let's work on one list at a time. Though, this one is coming along well, so if you and others wanted to start debating what would belong in a list of Hellsing vampire lore, by all means, go at it. I'll comb through and make a list from the results.

As to your recommendation, let me review the current list before I act. The one thing I fret over is this becoming to comprehensive. It's supposed to be a very basic facts list to prevent repeat noob threads.

Just to clarify, I will not be adding facts specifically related to the OVA or non-English released manga. In my opinion the OA has been out long enough to expect people to have a familiarity with it and the manga is widely available. Net chapters of the manga though are technically illegal and thus I will not assume them to be widely available and the OVA is much harder to get a hold of and has not been around nearly as long as the OA.

Hey guys. ^_^

Its already been super established on this page that no characters in Hellsing are werewolves apart from Captain....however....
Due to the fact I've been flooded with comments on youtube lately about Schro being a werewolf....or Rip being a werewolf...
I felt here would be a good place to vent my immense frustration....

....THEY IS NOT WEREWOLVES, GODDAMNIT, THEY IS WERWOLVES!!!!!1111!!!111

*deep breath*
Okay. Thanks guys, goodnight now, und sorry 'bout that. ninja

As a matter of fact, I have already compiled such a lore list. Feel free to review it, if you wish.

I feel that a list of the basic facts of Hellsing should teach people the basic facts of Hellsing and other facts integral to understanding those basic facts, such as Hirano's inspiration. The purpose of this list is education and prevention of repeated threads. If more emphasis is placed on the former than on the latter, both purposes will be fulfilled.

This list should pertain to Hellsing in all of its incarnations, not just the manga or the original anime or the OVA. They are much more readily available than you seem to think they are or choose to acknowledge them to be. Furthermore, there are a lot of fans who are being introduced to the series through the OVA just as many of us (myself included) were introduced to the series through the original anime (which is good, because the OVA is more faithful to the manga storyline). That cannot (and should not) be ignored.

@NoLifeKing

If you've already done the work of making a lore list, then that's great to hear. Mind if I link to it in the first post?

The vast majority of our noob questions are answered with what has been compiled. Not to many pertain only to the OVA or only to the manga that has not been published in English. While my focus is on the OA and English-published manga, most of what is listed is good for all three mediums (OA, OVA, manga).

If you feel there are items that just must be listed that are OVA exclusive or non-english manga exclusive, feel free to create a thread on the matter in the OVA sub-forum. No where do I say I will ignore the manga that is available in hard copy in English. Please note that there is plenty on the list that has nothing to do with the OA, but rather to do with the manga available in hard copy.

A note though; I reread your suggestions at the end of the 4th page and did include them in the list. When I asked for time to reread the list, I wasn't refusing your ideas, simply asking for time and patience. I hadn't dealt with the list in over a month. Now that I have, the items have been added. See #s 2 and 12.

No, I don't mind at all.

I still don't think your focus should be so narrow, but you're right in saying that most of the basic facts you have compiled so far answer most noobs' basic questions, so I suppose it doesn't really matter.

Thank you, but you forgot to add the bit about F. F. Coppola's film, Bram Stoker's Dracula. You should include it as one of Hirano's sources of inspiration because it is just as integral to understanding Alucard's character as the original novel is. It's where Hirano got the idea to portray Dracula as a tragic hero. Knowing that would help dispell the common misconception that Alucard is entirely "badass". There's also a direct reference to it in Volume 7 of the manga.

Exactly. This is a basic facts thread. To cover all the Hellsing facts would require a much longer thread - and really, that's what the forum is for. This is mainly to stop noobs from posting "OMG! Alucard is Dracula backwards!" threads and yelling about how Schro's a werewolf.

I really appreciate your thorough knowledge, though, and your desire to have the newcomers know all there is about Hellsing. That's our goal too, after all.

I am well aware of the purpose of this thread. Notice that I am making a simple suggestion: that F. F. Copolla's film adaptation of Bram Stoker's novel be added into the list of sources that inspired Hirano to create Hellsing. This simple fact is important in understanding Alucard's character because Alucard is heavily based on Copolla's portrayal of Dracula in his film and because there are direct references to it in the series. It's a basic fact that can fundamentally alter a person's perception of the series. It would also prevent a thread like "Dracula didn't come to London for a woman!" because, in the film, he did.

I also think it would be a good idea to add a link to my list of Hellsing vampire lore to prevent threads asking about it, but first we should determine whether it's accurate or not.

Skeith the Terror of Debt
11. (not really important, but I like it) Anderson and Abraham Van Helsing are the only two people who have ever made Alucard cry. mrgreen

Not even going to try and put things like this up. This would fall under "lore" and "trivia" not "basic facts" necessary for noobs to know so as not to be glared at upon their arrival to our guild.

ok, I got it!

"Her" turns out to be the one Alucard loves. she finds out Alucard is gone, ends up killing The Major, Integra has to defeat Alucard's long lost love, and Seras takes Alucard's place ^_^

sound right? please respond

*flails*

No to offend, but I think I threw up in my mouth abit. sweatdrop
Nothing against you or your theory at all, I've just never liked the whole Alucard's love idea, no matter what is being theorized...

Well, it might work, if we where playing in the theory that 'she' might be Mina Harker... and THEN we played in the factor that Hellsing has alot of basis in the film Bram Stokers Dracula, in which Mina does love Dracula....
...and THEN we play in the factor that Mina becoming free of him didn't HAVE to be the case, because in the Hellsing canon we have no absolute proof of it, other then Abrahams word....

but honestly, I just don't see Alucard ever having anyone even remotely like that... apart from Integra.

So yeah, I just don't see it.... Ohh... I hope 'She' is someone awesome though, if we ever find out who she is.... I'm hoping for frickin' Elizabeth Bathory or something.

xd

I give you evidence that Copolla's film, Bram Stoker's Dracula, should be added to the list of Hirano's inspirations.

Wrong thread for this post. Please, unless you have something to add to the purpose of this sticky, refrain from off-topic commentary.

Another basic fact that I think could (and should) be added is the fact that nobody knows who "She" (or, alternatively, "THE SHI") really is.

Um I dunno if this will help but this girl I know who's an uber werewolf Captain fan said his name is Hans or something along that.
Like I said I dunno if it helps but I'm willing to share a couple things.

The name "Hans" or "Hans Günsche" refers to the Captain's prototype in one of Hirano's earlier (hentai) works, "Desert Schutzstaffel" (or, more appropriately, "Desert Guardian"). It has never been used to refer to the Captain himself in Hellsing.
