It's not a sin to drink. It's a sin to be a drunkard.

Eph 5:15-20

15 Be very careful, then, how you live — not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is. 18 Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit. 19 Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, 20 always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
NIV

Drunk

— The first case of intoxication on record is that of Noah (Gen 9:21). The sin of drunkenness is frequently and strongly condemned (Rom 13:13; 1 Cor 6:9,10; Eph 5:18; 1 Thess 5:7, cool . The sin of drinking to excess seems to have been not uncommon among the Israelites.

I offered my opinion six months ago way back on page one but since the thread has become active again I thought I'd give an update. A few months back I was diagnosed with borderline fibromyalgia.

The pain medicine my doctor started me on is a depressant. Alcohol is also a depressant. I am genetically predisposed to clinical depression. Therefore I must now avoid alcohol even though a glass of wine a day is supposed to help relieve chronic pain.

My opinion, however, has not changed since October. I still believe that whether or not you drink is between you and God but encourage you to remember:

"Whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God." - 1 Cor 10:31 (NASB)

Its not a sin but its not good either.

I Corinthians 6:19 states this
Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.

Its basically saying that our body is the lords so treat it well.

Okay. I'm 18, a freshman in college, but I barely drink. Yeah, I've gotten pretty tipsy on a couple occasions but never drunk and I was always with just a small group of friends who I know well and who I trust. There was also at least one sober person there as well. Do I feel bad about the alcohol I consumed? No. I was responsible and I knew when to stop and I stopped.

Is drinking alcohol a sin? No. Heck- Jesus turned water into wine. Back in Biblical times alcohol was much more consumed because it was more sanitary. It only becomes sinful when drinking becomes more of a prioroity then God or when you are no long praising and pleasing God with your actions as a result of alcohol. A casual glass of wine between friends isn't bad- heck a glass of wine with dinner has been proven to be good for your health.

As long as you're resonsible with it, I see no reason why it should be a problem.

Drinking is not a sin!
Jesus drank... in fact, he made the alcohol (the whole miracle, water into wine)

And I refuse to give up my Captain Morgan and Coke... it's mine...

i agree that drinking is fine as long as you don't get drunk..

well i would like to add that it is ok to drink as long as you do not stumble other believers.. because if a young christian sees you drinking and it results in something bad happening it is definitely a sin domokun

Drinking itself is no sin. Getting drunk can be. Me personally, I like to drink. Not an alcoholic, but I do like my alcohol. Usually I stick to red wine, but, I do like vodka and I rather like Jack Daniels and coke.

Then again, I do not hold any belief in God so to me its just a part of being human. Having vices, sins, etc. We are only on this earth for a short time, make the most of it is my thing. (:

Frankly trying to be as sin free as possible is pointless, dumb, and silly. Just a thought.

The T Bone
actually
Jesus drank alcohol
and a little alcohol can be good for you if used the right way
but getting drunk you lose control of yourself and potentially dangerous

and Jesus drank wine
on a daily basis
it cant be wrong[/quote
Sorry but it doesn't say anywhere in the Bible from my recollection that Jesus had wine everyday... I think He only had wine on two different occasions.

Ecclesiastes 10: 17.Blessed are you, O land whose king is of noble birth and whose princes eat at a proper time-- for strength and not for drunkenness

So yes drunkenness is bad but yes i know thats not what your asking. Jesus drank wine. Technically your supposed to have wine in communion. Its fine in moderation. Really the only thing that can be done excessivley without the danger of it turning in to a sin would be love jesus.

I don't know if I've stressed this enough, but...

The reason why drunkards are so condemned is because of their choices they do whilst drunk.

If you're going to make poor choices and sin whilst drunk, don't do it.
Otherwise, whatever, man.

...
I've been known to enjoy a whole lot of alcohol in one sitting.
Have I done stupid things?
No.
I'm cognizant whilst drunk.
