Venti stood by as the elements fought around her. Being the opposite of Kalevi, she was the one most accustomed to change, and here again she saw it happening. She let Casto's inslut slide off of her, and pretended not to have heard it. Her ears perked happily, however when she saw the leader of lightning. She was almost like a sister, being equally volitile in nature. She rose to her feet to welcome her comrade, but she tried to give Castor and Aelin enough space, even though they seemed too focoused on each other at all times.

((I'm going to leave Lin as a kit for now.))

Lin grew fed up as the two adults talked over her head about her own beliefs. Was she not allowed to defend herself? Besides, she wasn't even sure what was going on, and they were already talking about putting her in this tribe. Psh. She had something to say about it.

"Does the fact that I wanted to follow you on my own not count for anything?" she muttered."Will someone please tell me what this place is, who you are....and why you're aguing over me?"

Having spent a great deal of his life trying to sneak around the lands of the others and not get caught, and making sure that no one was able to sneak up on him, Kalevi of course heard the words the kit muttered.

"No." His tone was one of finality. There was still the possibility that she could be a spy, of course. Not that he would say as much to her: the last thing he needed was to give her ideas she might not have.

The fact that Pangaia said the kit was of Earth did count for something, but it still wasn't worth the risk to let his guard down.

Besides, she seemed defiant. Almost fiery. If not Aelin, then maybe she would fit in best with Castor.

"You're on the lands of the Elementum Gens tribe, also known as the elements tribe. I am Kalevi, she is Pangaia. We are debating which element best fits you." The explanation was brief, spoken almost hastily, in a tone that said 'and that's all you need to know'. It was, really. All of that was either knowledge that could be had by outsiders, or something that the kit herself might have been able to figure out. If she were smarter, maybe. Hopefully she would grow some brains by the time she grew up. The last thing he needed was to try to protect a half-wit. Fighting alone would be easier than trying to protect someone.

Lin didn't fail to notice Kalevi's rushed, annoyed tone, but she managed to supress her own annoyance. Instead, she forced herself to calm down, already mentally chastizing herself for letting this situation rile her up in the first place. She knew that under different circumstances, she quite possibly could have figured it out, but running into the strange foxes and trying to avoid being killed had thrown her off.

Lin was shrewed enough to pick up on the distrusting way he was eyeing her. It was clear this Kalevi was naturally suspicious of everyone; he even doubted his own Elder. Perhaps that had to do with the clear feud (Lin recalled his earlier words about her being used in the war as a spy), but to her, it just seemed like he was being thick-headed. It was one thing to be stubborn, but it was a great fault in her mind not to see reason.

Eventually, she tried to fend herself. "I'm no spy," she said, keeping calm once more. "In case you hadn't noticed, I had no idea who any of you were, let alone what your purpose was. If I was that Aelin fox's spy, why would I come after you? I may seem stupid to you, but I think it's stupid to assume she would send someone right after you. Seems more reasonable to go after that fire guy.

Earth and Water are supposed to be elements that can at least coincide, aren't they? Maybe you hate her, and maybe she even hates you, but the advantage would be in going after Fire Boy. Of course, he'd expect it, but, if I was being used in the war, and she was creaitng an army, a kit would be expendable. She'd let you all know she had an army by going after Castor, and that would leave him prone to making mistakes as he rushed oto make his own in defense. He'd be open for attack. I can't see that owrking as wel lwith you, though. Fire is impulsive, not Earth."

Realizing she had practically given a speech, the young kit snapped her mouth shut, but did not look away from the Earth Elemental. Let him make his judgement, she would continue to push until he saw her as one of his own.

Venti suddenly became uncomfortable, as it sank in that Kalevi may be adding another member to his faction, after seeing Pangaia run after him with a green kit in her mouth. Why else would she be chasing him with that kit unless she was of earth? The hair on the back of her neck rose as she became slightly paranoid, realizing that the kit was another fox that could be against her. Suddenly, she stood once more and began pacing, now fretting about what actions she should take. As part of the new tribe's mantra or theme, there had to be balance, correct? And so she would now too, need another member to follow the wind.

As she walked back and forth, the air around her paws was restless, and it began to look like a miniature cyclone was forming at the height of the blades. It was a reflection of her mood at the moment, and her thoughts were racing. Should she leave the lands to recruit some foreign foxes? Should she return to her lands just to regroup the others there? Or should she try and take Pangaia's words to heart and not let it bother her as much as it had in the past and think of the kit as a new member to the tribe, rather than Kalevi's troops?

Pangaia smiled listening the kit speak. At first she was surprised but then she smiled. Even though she was small she knew what she was speaking of. This greatly encouraged her and chances are Kalevi. Looking towards Kalevi with her fogged eyes. She smiled softly.

"Earth child the war is over. This mind set of being in constant war is what is separating you from the others. Even myself. You have your suspicions of everyone. My fellow tribe member if you wish to move away from the past and make it so that your friends and comrades not have not died in vain then let of this war. There is no war. War only brings pain. Start with this kit and move on from it. Teach her the ways of earth. Guide in the path of light and balance with the others. " Pangaia smiled once more and sat down still looking towards Kalevi. Her flaming tail flicking every now and then. The lighting rings on her hind legs sparking a bit against the hard earth below her.

Luvia shook its head at Aelin. Then it gently patted her with a clawed hand.

"Do not worry water child. It happens to the best of us. even Pangaia flared a bit at Castor. He is very difficult to deal with. I am sure. " It smiled at the young water child looking up at the lightning child approached.

"Ah you found us! Well now all the leaders are here. " Luvia turned to Aelin. Then smiled.

"I am sure you know the lightning child. Her storms had calm finally to allow her save passage to arrive her. I just wish Pangaia was here to great you more." At the last part its head turned to look at lightning child. Instead though he thought of something. Maybe the elder was rubbing off too much on it.

"Aelin why not try to speak to Castor. See if maybe there is some to douse his flames?" Luvia seemed curious to see if this would work. The only reason why it suggested Aelin was because it those two would be the ones to fight the most. Also they fought the most passionately.

Kalevi wasn't even going to bother arguing strategy with the kit. Of course Aelin and Castor attacking each other was predictable. And one of the keys in warfare was to be unpredictable. A predictable enemy was one who could be manipulated by others.

To send someone to follow him in secret in this now dead and desolate land would be another stupid move. Far better to send someone openly, seemingly as an ally.

And then of course there was the fact that everything the kit had said and done was nothing more than a ruse...

Really, it was all too much for him to even begin to counter.

Instead, he turned his attention to the Elder.

"You say the war is over. Yet Castor and Aelin are still fighting. Castor and everyone are still fighting. I expect that Venti and T'puuli N'zurre are no more reconciled to this so called peace than either of the Water or Fire Elementals."

So long as there remained any who had lived through the war, who had known nothing but fighting their entire lives, how could there possibly be peace?

"This entire tribe, whatever its original intent, is now founded on nothing but conflict, deception, revenge, destruction, death. You tell me just how we are supposed to overcome such things?

"How are we supposed to work alongside those who have destroyed everything we have ever known? Those who have no remorse for their actions? Those who would go back, and do the same thing over again?

"This tribe has always been doomed. Eventually, we will all die by each other's means. However, I intend to be the last one standing, when that day comes."

He stared up into Pangaia's eyes, defiant. Let the Elder answer his challenge. He would love to see her try.

Pangaia opened her mouth to speak but stopped. Her flicked slightly troubled. The earth child had a point. How could they move on when everyone harbored such feelings? How would they be able to move on from this war when they all helped in the death of others.? Pangaia sighed and shook her head.

"Well you pose very true points. I guess I have more work to do then I thought. The war though is over because can you tell me you would kill any of the remaining elements?" Pangaia stood up and looked down at Kalevi.

"Would you be able to strike a paw against them and have more blood on your paws? Would you be able to live with that knowledge. That you killed the last of that race. " Pangaia turned away to look away from the earth lands towards the others.

"I know Castor might but Castor is a deadly flame that needs to be tamed. Though he can not be until all of you..." Pangaia stopped to look at Kalevi. "Including you need to forgive one another. Yes what you all did was bad but you must forgive otherwise only more blood will be shed and more hurt brought about. Is that what you want? More fighting? More war? More lives lost?" Pangaia turned and glanced at him her foggy eyes seeming distant as normal but they looked hurt. Her watery hair seemed lifeless along with the leaves on her body and her flame was dull at the tip of her tail

"Of course. And the others would do the same thing, to protect themselves and their territories. Anyone who says otherwise is lying." The ways of a lifetime, of a generation, of countless generations weren't so easily ended. It had always been killing, and killing, and more killing. If anyone actually thought that it would continue that way forever, that they would never have to face the possibility of killing the last of the elementals, they were unfit to be the leaders of their lands.

"Do I want more fighting? No. At the moment, I am the last of my kind. With me dies all of the earth elementals. I don't want to take such a risk." Kalevi spoke about his own death casually, indifferently. If it weren't for the fact that he was the last, he wouldn't care at all. It would come, and soon. Those who didn't accept that fact didn't last in this place.

"But my opinions have no matter. No matter whether I want it or not, the fighting will continue until we have all killed one another. Even if all of us manage to produce children at the same time, we will get to this point again, maybe sooner, maybe later. But it will happen. And one of those times, all of one race will be extinguished. Maybe all will end at once. Maybe it will take multiple cycles for that to happen. But it will happen." He allowed an amused expression to cross his face. He felt sorry for this Pangaia, really. She seemed to honestly think she could fix the problems of such a long time so quickly. He thought elders were supposed to be wise beings. But she was just so naive. How was it that she had been appointed elder, if she seemed to know absolutely nothing about how it was with the tribe?

He mulled over that question in the back of his mind, while keeping his attention on Pangaia and the kit, waiting for their responses.

Pangaia sighed and shook her head. She then turned to leave. they truly did not see the truth. she looked at him her hair hiding her face as she spoke. Her eyes looking to the side behind the wall of watery hair.

"Kalevi, you keep holding on to the past. Move on from it and its not just you but the others too. If I can exist then you and the others can coexist as well. If you and the others don't forget about your ancestors and the past then you shall never learn. None of you shall grow inside and elemental wise. I mean there will always be one of each..." Pangaia then turned away sighing and shaking her head once more. Droplets of water raining down from her hair. It appeared she was crying but she wasn't.

"I can only help having this kit around will help you. " Then with that she made her way back to the others. she was troubled by Kalevi's words and did not like it at all. She sighed once more and arrived at the zone where the others where.

Luvia smiled and bows only to stop and watch a very sadden elder approach. It paused for a moment to look at her before leaning its head closer as she walked past not acknowledging anyone else not even the lightning child.

"Pangaia the lightn- What is wrong?" he moved closer to her and laid down next to her once she too had laid down her head above her front paws turn away from everyone.

"It is not normal for you to be so gloomy. Do tell me what is wrong?" Luvia listened with interest to the story and only gently patted her on the head.

"You shall do fine. I am surprised they are still alive and you should not worry." Luvia then smiled but only ended up frowning as Pangaia turned away. He noticed the leaves on her body withering, her hair turning murky , the lightning at her feet seemed to shrink and lastly the flame at the tip of her tail was fading.

Lin kept quiet as the two in front of her debated, knowing it was not her place to speak. Besides which, she was still young; there was only so much she would be able to comprehend, especially when she was so new to this place.

Young or not, however, she was instinctively aware the the Elder's departure was potentially disastrous. Sure, an Elder disappointed in one of their followers was never ideal...but with the snippets of information Lin had about this tribe, the repercussions seemed much worse.

What she was supposed to do now? Lin knew she belonged here, but how could she prove that to an adult who refused to see sense, who could not trust anyone?

"Sir," she started, hoping the humble yet insistent approach would work. "I don't know what you wish me to do. How can I show you that I do not work for anyone but myself if you will not listen? I know I'm a kit still, but it will not be long before I reach adulthood; I may not be all-knowing, but I do not have the mind of a newborn either. If you could just tell me what it is I have to do to prove this to you, I will. And, to be quite frank, I don't intend on giving up, even if I have to be tested a thousand times over. "

Kalevi eyed the kit, and thought about what he could have her do. There was little question about loyalty concerning kits who were born into Earth. It was seen to that all of those were given a proper education. There were few enough outsiders who wished to join, and those had mainly been handled by others. So long as what the others did made the outsiders loyal to the Earth's cause, Kalevi did not much care what was used to ensure that loyalty.

He liked her determination. That was a good Earth quality. Presuming that she was not a spy from the others; nothing more than an actor.

Pangaia had said that she belonged in Earth. Naive and foolish the elder might be, but what would be the sense of her lying? A spy would just further this conflict the elder wanted to end, so of course she would stop such a thing.

Or so he hoped, anyway.

Of course, she might also think that it would do good for kits of water, for example, be shown the ways of other elements as well, to further all of that unity and balance crap.

"If I didn't tell you how to prove your loyalty, if I made you think of your own way to prove it, what would you do?" he finally asked after a while.

Lin instinctively knew she needed to keep her mouth shut as she saw Kalevi thinking to himself, and she bit back any comments, examing the land around her in greater detail until he spoke once more. Her right ear twitched as she took in his words, and now it was the younger's turn to contemplate.

For several minutes, she considered the nature of the question. What wouldn't she give up to join him? Despite the fact that she had not been alive for long, especially when compared to these Elementals, she had always subconsciously affiliated herself with Earth; if she fell asleep next to a river, she'd wake up to find she'd moved into the solid grass and dirt yards awya in her sleep. She felt most at ease among the rocks and trees, but, up until now, Lin had never really given it much thought. Here, however, the reason seemed to smack her in the face. But how did one generalize their feelings into proof?

She exhaled loudly, then looked glanced up at Kalevi out of the corner of her eye. "Everything," she declared decisively. "If you said I must blind myself, I would take my own claws to my eyes. I would find ways to rid myself of all my senses, if that's what it took, because there is nothing that can take me from this element, save that final oblivion. If I lived the rest of my life blind, deaf and dumb, I would still know that it kept me here, where I belonged. And if that was not enough, if it came to a point where my life had to be sacrificed to keep this element alive, then so be it. I would go down fighting to the end, and others would come with me, but I would see to it that my death meant something; I would not cower in a corner and wait for the pain to be over. So long as I leave this world with my honor intact, there is nothing more valuable than this to me."
