Ryn bowed his head at Lain's words, hoping up on his own beast of burden, his crimson leather making no sound as he leapt up.
"Well... I do believe we should head. The sooner we leave, the sooner I get my money... and of course the sooner the Queen is back in her home.", Ryn said, amending his words at the end, knowing full well that to these Knights, money was not as important as the Queens well being.
Carefully he stashed his left knife back up his sleeve, making sure that no one was watching while he did. He didn't want them to know about his many hiding spots for weapons until it was to late for them not to.

Reina pouted, realizing their short break was over, and made sure to take this exotic fruit with her. Hades arose to his hooves, nudging the girl towards Lain and Artemis, showing that they needed to get a move on.
"Calm down Hades, I know I'm going." With a tired stretch and a heavy sigh she mounted back on her trusty steed and pat his cool back. "It's one way straight through now, we'll make it." Reina cought the attention of the others to follow them onward, they would head to Serionia now, and arrive there in time. To be honest, Reina was glad that she would head back to her homeland, the chance to see her mother and show her how strong she had gotten would be worth the long travel. Reina was most certain that her mother would be proud, even her father would have been proud if he was alive to see his little girl protect the walls of Camelot.
As the night came on, Reina felt them start to exit the desert lands, and over the horizon was Serionia. The night did the place justice, afterall, it hid from her the wounds and scars it bore during her time of leave, she was still not ready to see what had become of her beautiful homeland, after the attack.
"There it is, I see it! Finally, a bed that becons me and a family with open arms! It's been over a decade and I still can remember the smells and sights of this place, as if I had just left."

Finally, a bed that beckons me and a family with open arms!
The words cut through Lain like a knife. He didn't have family in Serionia, only the mere memory of one. He gazed toward Reina, eyes pointed downward, ,and his head was bowed just slightly before ushering Artemis onward, begging him to pick up speed in the far reaches of his mind.
Artemis reacted as asked and began a brisk trot toward the town, pulling himself and Lain further ahead of the group than Lain would usually allow. A fury of tears trailed down his pale cheeks, dripping onto the back of his hand that held onto the saddle.
How he wished his life had been different. He would of been happy growing up in a peaceful Serionia, never joining the knights. Perhaps, perhaps he would have even married a nice Elven girl, but the what ifs were over, and this was his life now, to suffer in silence as they neared the city.

Finally, a bed that beckons me and a family with open arms!
Ryn stiffened slightly, the memory of his entire family dying ripping through his mind. He brought one hand up, wiping his face as though trying to get sweat out of his eyes.
"Stupid really... Its been four years, and I still feel this way...", He thought, grabbing hold of the saddle again. He wasn't even sure where he had lived back then, but he knew what it had been like, having a home, and a family.
Out loud all he said was," Thats nice.... I'll have to find somewhere to stay, and try to buy a horse here."

It was unusual to see Lain react the way he did just now, leaving the others behind. Was something bothering him or was he trying to tell them he wanted to be alone. She racked her mind about it for a few moments before, out of instinct, she rushed to the side of her friend. Of course, leaving Thal behind with the assasin might have worried others, Reina had complete faith that if anything were to happen, things would get worked out in their favor. Thal was able to take care of himself, and probably Reina too, it was like having a body guard at all times.
Hades cought up with Artemis, feeling that Reina really wanted to speed up in a quick dash to catch up to them. As Reina gained speed and finally maintained their same speed, she spoke to Lain in a calm voice, like a mother would her child who had been upset.
"Lain, are you alright? You dashed out on us so quickly, it was hard to tell if you wanted to lose us, or something was bothering you." She looked to her fellow Knight, seeing fresh tears roll down his cheek and his eyes were glossy. This reaction cought her completely off guard, making her feel sympathetic. "You're...crying, what's wrong?" She wanted to do her best to reach out to him, but it was then that she looked to Serionia, to notice...it was not the same as she had left it to be.

"A family...with open arms..." He whispered. It was useless trying to turn his head and pretend like nothing was bothering him. It would have been all too easy to blame the distance on the fact that he wanted to feel the breeze of the night to quench his skin, but no, he couldn't lie, he never lied, and he wasn't about to start.
"Sometimes I wish, that my life was different." The voice that came from him was low and monotone. He was breaking inside with every step Artemis took toward the city. Perhaps he wasn't as ready to face the past as he thought he was. "I mean, what if my family hadn't been murdered. What would my life be like? I can tell you what it would be like. I'd be married, with children, and a wife who loved me, and.....my mother and father...." He dipped his head low, turning his head to face his fellow knight.
"I wouldn't be here. Crossing the desert in the middle of the night, on my way to facing the one place that scares me the most. But it calls to me, and it always has..." He swallowed hard and locked eyes with Reina, his eyes filled to the brim before a stream of fresh, dust filled tears ran down his face. But as much as he cried, his expression did not change. "You really should get back t the others I'll be fine." His heels found their mark and Artemis trotted a bit faster, a limp and weary Lain jostling on his back.

Ryn watched as the Lain and Reina spoke, his thoughts having gone back onto his job. He had never been one to dwell on something he didn't like, and he didn't intend to become one who did. Slowly he said, half under his breath,"Its a good thing I'm getting paid so much to put up with these three..."
He rubbed his right wrist, scratching unconsiously, as he tried to figure out the best way to accelerate his payment. He knew that the amount he had been offered was massive, but the sooner he got it the better. He didn't have a concept of honor like some, and wasn't thinking of getting the Queen back, as a duty, so much a way to make money.
He reached down, grabbing his water skin, and taking a sip of the lemon flavored water he had made earlier, watching everything around him, especially his three "Companions".

"Mu-murdered?" Reina's voice choked over the words, how could it have been? No... she wanted to be ignorant, to be oblivious to the fact that Serionia was invincible. "Lain, I am going to find my mother, perhaps she can give us a place to sleep, I know she would be good for that." Reina kept high hopes, she didn't want to admit that there might be a chance, things here were different then what she expected. "If you want to go on, that's alright, I'll meet you after I speak with her and we get settled down. Besides, Mother has always been a great listener, and an excellent cook. She'd make you feel right at home so forget your worries." Reina pat his shoulder, giving him a sincere nod, she was, for her sake and theirs, trying to keep an opend mind.
Hades strolled into the city, which was partially in ruins, and seemed to be untouched by anyone in this side. The streets used to be filled with children, even at night as they would chace the night creatures, and families would be gathered under the starry sky, but not this night. Reina smelt the foul stench of rotting corpses and felt many times that she tripped over weapons and the like. Hopping off of Hades, she knelt down to pick up a small doll, the smell of blood was covered in it, and she could hear screams of a child. She carried the doll with her, walking further into the city, going down a familiar road, towards her house, which used to be covered in vines and beautiful wildflowers. To her dismay, the house was fallen in, and seemed to be burnt in many places. Hades stayed still while Reina rushed through the broken down door, pushing aside the debris, looking for her mother.
"Mother! Mother are you still here?!" Normally, one would accept that their loved one had not made it through alive, but Reina did not believe that were possible. The woman was gentle, she had a smile that lit up even the darkest of nights. "Mother, please, if you're still here, call my name, it's me, Reina." The air was silent, and there was nothing to be heard. Reina felt a hand at her shoulder and she quickly unsheathed her sword, pushing it against the being, only as a warning, until she had looked up to see two warm brown eyes and a torch staring at her. An elder man, about the age of fourty five or so was standing above her in the ruins of her old house.
"Milady, I heard word that the Knights were comming, and I had seen you here. You were the daughter of Amanie, correct?" Reina nodded, her eyes widening at the mention of her mother's name.
"Yes, Amanie Leiyflied Sinclaire, do you know where she is?" The man nodded, guiding her out of the house, and down another path. "Thank you so much, I was worried that she might have-" and then, she stopped. Reina's eyes fell to a cemetary, which laid far across the land and pointed to a tomb with a large cross over it. The words to her grave were inscribed in elvish, and Reina backed up in shock. She could not believe it, she would not. Rushing now, towards the headstone, she touched the delicate craft, seeing a flood of images of her mother's death pass through her eyes, as if seeing Amanie's death the way she had.
Moments passed and the man had heard nothing from Reina. He moved over towards her, and she had stood up before he had again said anything more. "My name is Eldric, come, take me to the others, and I will show you where they may stay." He accompanied Reina back to the other three, though Reina did her best not to show she was distressed, it would be bad for her to seem so discomposed, especially when she tried making others feel better.

((I see... I'm still trying to figure out why you go to bed after you eat dinner *-*))
Ryn sat upon his steed, as they slowly came into the city. His eyes, so used to the darkness which he spent most of his time in, catching details of dead bodies, dropped weapons, and general destruction. Despite what he had done for money, this was brutality on a scale he had never seen. It sickened him, that so many had died, and that this entire place had been half destroyed by whoever had attacked it.
"So sacrifice yourself, and let me have whats left. I know that I can find, the fire in your eyes. You take the breath right out of me. You left a hole where my heart should be.", Ryn muttered under his breath, an old assassins ode to the dead.
He hoped the others were not nearly as adept at seeing in the dark as he was, for this would no doubt distract them from what would eventually get him enough riches to never work again.

"Everyone, this is Eldric, he is going to be taking us to where everyone is at, safer grounds of Serionia. From there, we will be able to stay at a reserve and be treated as guests of the area." Reina was doing one hell of a job at keeping herself together, even if she had to pretend everything was alright, to be a Knight, she could not let her emotions get the best of her.
Eldric bowed to them, extended his arm towards the northern part of Serionia to show them where the rest of the city was lit up, and taken care of. "We're doing our absolute best to rebuild the city, it's taken us over a decade to situate everyone and revive their broken spirits, but we believe that our people will not be discouraged, and we'll grow stronger together." Taking his torch, he led the others up the hills, where the safehaven was, where the Serionians did everything they could to welcome their guests of honor.
Reina stayed near the back of the group with Hades, she kept close to her friend and closed her eyes, letting him guide her the rest of the way. How could Amanie have died? Reina knew her mother loved and valued life, and even though Amanie died trying to save the other innocents and failed, she would rest in peace with the spirits of her people. Still, the thought of her mother being dead would not break her spirits, only give her more reason to spite the Saxons, and enjoy bathing in their blood. Reina knew what Lain was feeling, what everyone else must be feeling, and yet she would not give up doing everything to bring up their spirits in their time of despair.

Lain followed in silence. His heart was indeed heavy, but before they had entered the mangled and debilitated half of his home city he had conquered his emotions. It was indeed rare for Lain to let his emotions get the best of him, but he felt it was best to let them have their way early on. He knew when their journey to save the queen came to a climax, to save her would require a fit mind. He inhaled deeply as he silently road behind Eldric. His shoulders bobbed up and down at his horses every step.
The land though dark, was bathed in enough moonlight for his Elven eyes to catch sight of the smallest detail. The bodies closest to the outskirts of the village were still visible, either no one felt sure enough of themselves to venture out so far as too remove them, or they were newly dead and had gone unnoticed.
The smoke of burning enemy carcasses, dilapidated homes, and rotten vegetation filled the air. But Lain did not move a muscle in protest, he kept true to the path that would lead his group to a more inhabitable and inviting half of the city. The images of his families death flooded his mind like a wave crashing upon the shore, but now, they did not break him, they only did so much as to fuel his hatred for the enemy, and he would claim every Saxon head between here and Bomea.
Just before they reached the other side of the village, Lain turned to his group, head held high and a determination in his posture. "We can stay here the best of two days. That way, if anyone knows of our travel and has sent word to the Saxons, we can defend this place when they come upon it." He dismounted Artemis and let him walk freely into the town, in Lains eyes, it was no longer a great city, and definitely not the home he had once adored.

Ryn followed calmly, dismounting when Lain did, and following silently, his eyes catching every detail in the night, searching for any danger. He felt that something was wrong here, beyond just the destruction that they had seen. He wasn't sure what, but he was not planning on sleeping to soundly for the next two days.
Unconsciously he flicked a knife into his left palm, and held it by the blade, blood trickling down his palm. Under his breath, without even thinking about it he muttered the same promise he had made to himself when his own family had died. This place made everything more personal, and he decided, that instant, that he was no longer on this mission just for the money. He wanted the same revenge for these peoples family's as he had wanted, and gotten for his own.
Quietly he said, turning towards Lain,"I don't think we should stay here any longer than the two days...."

Reina detatched herself from the group, looking around to what was left of the city which was not terrorized by the Saxons. Even for the heartless criminals, this was still too much to bear. Women, children, father's, husbands... they all fell to the blades and hands of the enemy. If Reina had stayed, would she end up in a grave beside her mother, or, would she have been able to help protect a few more lives. Hades pushed against her back with his head, looking into her hurt eyes.
'It's ok to cry you know, I can feel your sadness in your heart, you don't have to hide it, and you certainly can't from me.' Reina hugged her arms around his strong neck, nuzzling her cheek against his while keeping her eyes closed.
"Hades, you know that I've always been the optomistic one, to look on the bright side of things when there was only darkness; to bring any uncertain member the extra push they need to get their heads back on their shoulder; but I can't seem to do the same for myself." She pet the horse's head and stepped a feew feet back. "If the other's ask, well...don't let them follow me, I just need some time to myself if that's alright. Let Artemis know that, I promise I will return shortly."
With Reina's words, she departed from her horse, heading to one of the leading towers which overlooked most of this land. Many people had ventured here to view the beautiful nature that thrived here, to imagine what a sight it was and how civilized the elves and humans could live in peace together. Now however, the scars of battle still showed, and many of the people still bore wounds from the traumatic incident.
