Kyraa guided Deo through the kitchen and locked the door behind them, turning off the lights and moving to the darkest corner with the senses that were left to her. She guided the furry gargoyle to follow her, and let Deo sit down before she did herself. "If he comes, then you run and I'll fight. " Despite the terror gnawing at her, she managed to keep any trembling in her voice to a minimal. What if he did find them? It would be the first time she had ever spoken to a human being. What would she say?

At the sound of engines, Katane peered upward, just in time to see the strange machine disapear into the sky. She shivered. Ruevian is gonna kill me. There weren't very many good hiding places on the bare rooftop. Slumped in defeat, Katane curled up into a little ball, enclosing herself in the small cavelike space formed by her wings. If she couldn't hide from the world, it could hide from her.

Trembling, Deoridhe pressed herself into the corner, gripping Kyraa's arm. Silence pressed in on her like a shroud; how long until the humans came, now?
At the thought, her grip tightened, claws digging in slightly.

Alliance leaped out of the doorway as the metallic monster launched itself into the air.
s**t!
The beast appeared to be propelled by jet engine of some sort, like airplanes were. It was no engine she recognized, though, and it blasted her face with hot exhaust.
She ran on all fours to Ruevian, making sure she was uninjured. She didn't seem to have taken any damage, though, which was good.
"Katane!" she screamed, her voice becoming a demonic howl in her rage. Eyes burning red, she paced around the rooftop. "I'm going to kill those hatchlings. I'll kill them. I will! Katane! Get your a** out here now!"

s**t. Here it comes.
Katane unfolded from her hiding position, wings trembling slightly. She crawled to the edge of the rooftop and hopped down, right in front of Alliance. Eyes on the floor, she held here hands out, palm up.
"Do you want to slit my wrists now, or torture me first?"

"Oh, no," Alliance replied, eyes still embers in the darkness. "You're not getting away that easily. Do you realize what you could have done? Do you even know what that was? Because I sure as hell don't know what that thing was. It could have gone after you. It could have taken you and done Ancestors-know-WHAT to you!"
She stomped over to where the girl was cowering. "You could have gotten yourself KILLED, Katane! Did you see how Ruevian's claws just bounced off of it? I don't think we could have stopped it if it wanted to."
She sighed, and the ruby glow faded from her eyes. She pulled the hatchling into a hug, and wrapped her wings around her. "I lost enough rookery-siblings twenty years ago. I'm not going to lose you."

Ruevian was preoccupied while Alliance ranted. The young clan leader was known to be emotional, and Ruevian knew that her temper would abate as soon as it had flared. As the red-haired female hugged the hatchling tightly, she rolled her eyes and turned away slightly. This was precisely why their hatchlings were so stupid.
Frowning, she stared at her lifted hand, the palm turned toward her. Her talons didn't seem the worse for wear. What was that thing? Why did he retreat so suddenly? It seemed more and more likely that whatever their intruder was, he hadn't wished to fight.
Ruevian caped her wings, eyes hooded slightly in thought. "We should get back inside," she muttered flatly, giving Katane a clealy contemptous scowl.

Katane now shook lightly with sobs, burying herself deeper in Alliance's embrace.
"I'm sorry. I'm sorry I endangered the clan. But..."
She choked down another sob.
"...I don't think he wanted to hurt us. Even when Ruevian attacked him, he just left when he could've fought. Maybe he wants to..... meet us or something."

"Maybe he wanted to meet us, true," Alliance replied. "That's why I was talking to him. Ruevian was sneaking behind him in case things went bad."
She released the girl from her embrace. "Ruevian's right. We should go inside." She ran a talon through her hair as she walked back to the doorway.

Katane shrugged and followed Alliance inside. She generally had quick emotional recoveries, and felt that this was just more water of experience under the bridge of life. Best to avoid Ruevian for awhile, though.
He's going to come back. Anyone who would go through all the effort of finding us and building a machine to get to us wouldn't give up that easily. People are everywhere. We can't hide forever. She found this thought both foreboding and thrilling.

Gendou settled on the balcony outside the lab and pushed his way inside. The lab was empty, Hargrove apparently having gone home when his employer hadn't returned quickly. Just as well. Gendou wanted to be alone with his feelings.
As he stepped out of the armor, he felt a strange sense of euphoria, as if he had just bungee-jumped off the worlds tallest building without a bungee-cord - and survived without a scratch. He had discovered a new species. A new, intelligent species. A sobering though struck him - this new species could, potentially, be competition for the human race as dominant life-form on the planet Earth.
Or not. They seemed woefully low-tech, even their clothing appearing to be tattered remnants of human discards. These were not, so far as he could tell, an industrialized people. Which made them ripe for exploitation. He walked down the corridor toward his private elevator, images of winged, armored super-soldiers dancing in his head.
Oh yes, this was an evening to remember.

Gliding back from patrol, Lasreaine landed easily on the stone rim of the rooftop. It had been a realtively uneventful night so far, undoubtably something would turn up later. Las had mostly just come back to see if the hatchlings had been taken out yet. Hooking her wings together at the neck Las headed inside.
Her first thought as she entered the church were accompanied by a small groan. What have they done now? Alliance and Reuvan looked ready to kill Katane and company. Las ran one set of green talons through her hair with a sigh. "Is everything alright?" She asked, hoping it was just something silly they did, like bring back another kitten.

Alliance watched as her verdant clanmate glided down. That's funny, she thought. I don't remember seeing her leave...
"Just fine, Las," she called. "It'd be better to talk about it inside."
She led the other females down the stairwell, only to discover that the door leading to the hallway and the small kitchen area was closed.
She tried the handle. Locked.
"Kyraa, open up! It's us!" she said, knocking.

"Oh." The warrior followed behind the younger clan leader and the others, wondering. She hadn't been gone very long at all, she had just chosen to fly straight to the river as soon as she had woken up and finished shaking off the stone pieces. A good night's glide always woke her up fully, and it was easier to slip away while everyone was still a little groggy. It also took care of that leg of her patrol, which was quite handy.
This locked kitchen business though, that was certainly more troublesome. "I hope she hasn't eaten everything." Las grumbled. "I'm hungry."

"Good evening, Ms. Lasreaine."
Katane nodded politely to the gargoyle in greeting, hoping to set a good impression on her before she heard the news. She had a feeling she would be asigned some extra pushups in their practice session; especially hard to do with the axtra weight of wings on your back.
