I love a detailed personality, just don't forget to back it up with a history. Think of the history as examples of wht the character would do in difficult situations. It's not so much "what happened to him/her?" as it is "what did they do about it?" Past actions are the best predictor of future actions IRL and they should also be in RP. Your actions and words strengthen your beliefs; so should it be in RP. Your actions make up who you are, just as much as you decide your actions!

Yea, a good detailed profile is good, but there is a such thing as being to detailed too. If you are, you can only do so much with the character, thats why I like leaving out some bits of information on my profiles, so I can stray away from my characters personality, and have some fun, but I go back to his personality before we enter a fight or something.
