Awesome-Taro I love band camp. After our lunch break we have a "drill down". Those are the best! A drill down is whe nwe all line up into our sections and its kinda like simon says but it is better!!!!!!! I wrote a story about drilldowns for my Creative Writing class this year. domokun

Cool. One time I had to do this thing called crab crawling or barrell crawliing or something and it hurt my stomach so bad. It felt like someone was ripping me in half.

xAsenath We're a tiny band, I think about 70-80 of us or so. Only 8 clarinets, 1 tuba, two barry saxes, 11 flutes... yadda yadda yadda. ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha i would be more than happy to have that band ours is...oh you know... about 25 people but band camp is really fun, it will be better next year if i get drum major (i hope!). we practice for lon long periods of time, play ultimate frisbee. we're on a part of puget sound so in the morning when the tide is low we look for seashells, crabs (and make them fight!), jelly fish. and at night we play games, do skits and play in the water with the flagidillies. ahhh good times....

Band camp. Ahh. xp
This year was my first year. It was...interesting. o.O;
We have the Freshmen/Rookie Auction during band camp, and I was in the very first group--there were six tied together and dragged onto a stage--and we played musical chairs. I sat in the Chair of Death...and got pelted with buttermilk and cream cheese. I stood up and screamed "YEAAH! THE MIGHTY CHEEEEESE!" or something, and rant out. xp stare whee
My left shoulder blade turned to fire and I could barely move my arm...so I had to skip out on practice in the evening on the second to last day.
The clarinets ended up watching this one guy's music get blown out into the road during sectionals and we cheered him on as he chased it across the street while cars kept rushing by. xd xd "DON'T GET HIT BY A CAR!!"
My water bottle got ran over by the pit train...it was a really nice metal one and it has a huge gash in it, but it still serves its purpose. heart
DIE DR. BEAT DIE!! scream
...That's all I have to say for now. ninja

WOW...Band Camp isn't that enough in it's self...well we practice all month in July...on a hot blacktop parking lot withthe field marked and it slopes major to the back and our piccolo player has never failed every year to topple backwards in a ball and jump back up and keep going wheter at band camp or in the middle of drill practice right before the compotition before Murray or Ohio County...but this year our mad is going up to AAAA and we'll going up against Madisonville North Hopkins they are the greates band ever! Well besides ours...(i have to say that I support my band Hopkinsville Band of Tigers!!!!! Ok anyways Band Camp I can't wait til next season!!! biggrin

There are water fights between breaks...
Our BD always tries to make us learn more and more of our drill during band camp every year. It's aggravating; there will be one year when we can't learn the entire show during band camp and he will go insane.

I remember the heat... Oh, lord almighty... It was horrible. Then someone puked. THANK GOD IT WAS NOT COLORED. Just water. Still sucked. We practiced in the rain, until we were soaking and slipping left and right. Slip, get right back up and march. WOOT! Mad, mad fun. Oh, god. Jazz running. WEEEEE! Jazz run this way! Turn around! DO IT AGAIN! MAD FUN! And who can forget the steak and potatoes... That's what one of the visual director dudes always told us to eat for dinner. Steak and potatoes. And get loooots of sleep. And the section shirts were awesome... Except ours. Just my luck... Oh, and what about the really early morning practices and the ones that ran until 9? P.M.? Yep... *sigh... God... I LOVE BAND CAMP! wink Really, I do.

Ooooo, I forgot this one story...
So, the seniors have this tradition to trash the newbies rooms. They do it maybe three times during band camp... one mild one during/after dinner first night, one medium one on the second day, and one extreme string-everywhere-spiderwebs-bunks-ceran-wrapped-macaroni-and-rice-mess, etc.etc. one on Senior Night.
This year, they decided to do the BD's room, seeing as his son was one of the seniors. They had the single junior boy sneak into his room when BD wasn't there, and hide in the closet until he was sure they were asleep. He called them from the closet with his cell, and went to open the door for them... when the doorknob clicked!!! Loudly, I might add, and BD's snores stopped. The junior dove underneath the D's bed, and hid there until he heard him ask, "Why are and how did you get in my room?"
To which the junior replies... "I don't know."

I LOVE Band camp!
One time we had a guy for sectionals who hated girl trumpets, confused the hell out of me.
Then we had the hot guy who taught the girls(there were only 4) because that guy hated girls.
Oh, and then we had the guy who looked like a stoner and had mono.
eek xd Lots of interesting charaters for the trumpet sectio0n.

I actually kind of look forward to band camp because I get to see my friends who I have hardly seen all summer long. Mostly just talk to the mon the internet and stuff. Plus I like to look at all the beautiful new people that have joined our band no matter what year they are.

Okay, since there's nowhere else to do it:
I started a "band campS" thread. It was locked. That thread was different. It didn't ask for band camp stories but WHICH BAND CAMPS PEOPLE ARE GOING TO. That's very different. [/whining] [debate] I. Not the same II. Equally Important III. What about the poll?! [/debate]
[open for questions/discussion/someone on the opposing side.]

In theory, this thread covers all aspects of band camp. In practice, only stories have been posted here so far. I would like to see this thread branch out, and will modify the first post to indicate this. By all means, ask your question here. I do not believe it is important enough to merit its own thread, as the vast majority of marchers only go to one band camp, that of their school. A seperate thread such as yours would, therefore, not generate much discussion.
The final decision rests with Silver Gryphon, as it is she who locked your thread. But that's my two cents.
