Amara's brow furrowed in confusion. Had she made a mistake?
... yes, yes she had.
"Never trust my math," she muttered, flushing embarrassedly. "Let me run through that again."
And this time she counted aloud on her fingers before laughing again. "Yes, I was way off ... twenty-four years you've been gone, sorry. Only twenty-four."
How she had gotten the other number, she had no idea.

"Hmm... still time does past quickly," Lore murmured thoughtfully, "But it is a bit less shocking than over thirty years.
He wondered then what everything would be like when they went back? There was an interesting thought.

Elnara felt a bit better at that, but not much.
"For me it still hasn't been even one year," she murmured softly. "But so much has happened ... it's all so strange, really."
She looked over at Lore and said, "The last time I was here, I was here with Triton for two elvish months - about three Gaian months, or a bit more. Four, maybe. But when we went back to Gaia, only two days had passed."

He had never realized the time leap was that much, it certainly explained why it seemed fine to come here on a whim.
"So... for every year that passes here, it would be at least twenty-four or a bit more," he ventured, "That is going to make things very... odd, to see things change in leaps and bounds every time we come back?"
We, not just her, he would come with her whenever she asked after all.

"Less than twenty-four, I think," Elnara replied. "Because I was here for six years after leaving home, before I made it to Gaia in the first place. So ... but that means it's been eighteen since I arrived in Gaia, so probably close to twenty or so here."
She didn't miss the fact that he had used the word 'we', and though she would be reluctant to explain why to anyone, it made her feel less alone than she ever had.

"That's still a lot of time," Amara commented. "But you said it was only a few weeks ago, your time, that you were here ... and yet for us it's been ... a long time ..."
She shook her head slowly. "I don't know if I'll ever understand it."

Lore could have explained, but it would be difficult, it was under a concept that took him decades to wrap his head around.
"It takes a while to try and get this idea that two places can have two different time flows without people noticing."

"Well, trust me," Elnara laughed. "I've noticed!" According to Amara, she was supposed to be nearly twice the age she actually was. She still couldn't wrap her head around it, and she'd known about the difference in time between the two worlds for ... well, months. Skye wandered over to Elnara and tapped her on the knee to get her attention, then in a quiet voice she murmured, "Mommy, Skye want go back down ... play with Serenity, Ce'bor." Storm looked up at Skye's words and pouted. "But we just got up here!" he protested.Starr, for once, remained silent, neither agreeing nor disagreeing with her twin.

Lore had to admit if they went down they wouldn't be able to take a trip back up, and he was sure that Elnara would want to catch up with Amara.
"How about I take Skye down?" he suggested, "Since Storm wants to stay."
He wasn't sure about Starr though, he wondered what she wanted.

"You don't mind?" Elnara asked, brow furrowing slightly in concern. "You're certain?"
Seeing that Storm wasn't going to be getting into trouble for arguing back with Skye, Starr took heart and added her own opinion.
"I want to stay up here, too," she said timidly. "I like it up here."
"It's nice down there, too," Storm added quickly so that it didn't seem as if he and Starr didn't like the lower house.
"But we didn't get to explore up here yet," Starr finished with a nod. "We want to explore."
And it seemed as though the two of them had gotten their little rhythm back.

"I don't mind," Lore replied back reassuringly.
Besides, he was sure things might get akward if Skye wanted to go down and count, there wasn't really anything for her to do, and conversations between adults tended to bore children didn't they?
Couple that with Skye's hearing problem and he didn't want her to end up figetting when she couldn't help it.

"Thanks," Elnara smiled gratefully, reaching over and squeezing Lore's hand. She looked back at Skye and signed for her, speaking at the same time, "Lore's going to take you down to play with Serenity and Celebor, okay?" Skye broke into a wide smile, and she turned her gaze to Lore. Her eyes were shining excitedly, and she skipped over to him and took both of his hands in her own. "Come, Lore!" she said excitedly, tugging his hands to help him stand up. "Come play, too!"

Lore laughed a bit as he stood up and let Skye tug him along.
"Okay, but I'll need a bit of help in that," he warned her.
Since he never really played before, and therefore didn't really know how to.
"I'll see you later," Lore told Elnara over his shoulder.

"It was good to meet you!" Amara called, also waving. Though she was certain she would see him again before they returned home.

Elnara smiled widely and waved back. "We'll be down by lunch," she promised. Skye giggled and skipped alongside Lore, heading for the path down the mountain.
"Long way down," she told Lore brightly, looking up at him with sparkling eyes. "But Skye not be tired! Skye be strong, just like Lore!"
