GenericWit I <33 horn players a lot, but I've got a question for you guys... Is it natural for horn players to crack? Because even in my region, area and state band... horns seem to... crack a note before they come to the right one. Well, Mason ( Horn, 1st chair) and I don't crack really. When we do, it's because we're not warmed up or we're warming up... but he's got like five years under his belt... Me? I've got a whole one. But that's just me and Mason...

Hiya! I'm a new French Horn player (squad/section leader as well... there are two of us, so it's not a big deal) Actually, we haven't even started concert season yet, thank god, so I haven't had to play the horn yet. But I love my mellophone a lot. <3

I think mellophone is easyer to play, though... @Generic Wit Yeah, it's kinda hard to hit the right note all the time. My section leader even does that, but usually only when she's not warmed up or it's cold out.

Hello =D My horn's name is Maurice and my mello's name is Christine Yeah, I'm weird. I blame it on my family xD @pyrojazz I don't think they do O_o It's technically an alto instrument or something? Mellophones are always paired with alto saxes in my marching band (and some in symphonic...)

mello is definatley easier. there's no trigger stare crying and it's way way easier to hit pitches on mello than on horn. i personally love both, but that's just me smile

Eyo, people. I'm slightly surprised that a French horn/Mellophone thread got about 50 pages under its belt. Hey, it just means that we rock! Currently, my band near the end of their competitive season, and we'll begin concert band soon. I'm a junior, still in last band, and I'm called "Double-A" in my section. Go horns.

I'm just getting used to the whole trigger thing. I don't like having to remember almost two sets of fingerings. neutral But I <3 horn so it's alright.

My mellophone is really ugly. It has less finish than my horn, which seemed to be missing alot of finish until I got that mellophone... ah well, they both play well, and next year I get a good horn <3 I'm still trying to learn all the fingereings for F, but it's confusing me since I'm still using trumpet fingerings for mello... >_> @Leoshi That's because we talk too much xD But we rock, too (yay mellos/horns!) I'm a sophmore who shouldn't be in the middle band... Hey, welcome to the thread! [and that's what happens when you try to answer three posts at onnce O_o]
