A question for Sean, whenever he gets back on.
Didn't I ask you that IC once? I mean, like, told you that there would always be people better than you, and that if you were fighting to be the best that you'd never achieve that goal. Then, like, trounced you and asked you it again.
"Why do you fight?"
"To be strong."
"There will always be those stronger than you."
"Then I will become stronger than them."
"Why?"
"To protect the people important to me."
"And when you're the best, then what will you do?"
"..."
"What will happen when, one day, some snot-nosed youth comes to try and beat you to prove that he is the best?"
"..."
...mmm... moderation. Have a purpose other than simply being on top, otherwise your life is meaningless.

That's what I thought about my fight, I get to Jans Viper (Joy,
stare ).
I 'member Jans was the 'villain' of the first real RP thread I went into. I only saw him post there once or twice in a few hundred pages, but the other people talked about him, so I guess he must have done something just before I joined it.
xd Sort of a person I've heard spoken of since I started on this site, but never really got to speak to until he IMed me a week or two ago asking why I hadn't joined this tournament.
I wonder if I'll run into him IC.
Cognitive Genome
Well holy
s**t.
That's me!
xd I know.
xd I noticed the changed name when I went back to look at the thread, and it made me wonder if I've ever seen you around before, because I would have made sure to talk to you if I'd have seen 'Jonathan Faulkner' around.
xd I'm not a big reader, even though I love to write, so when every single one of my english professors mentioned 'Faulkner' in a single day last semester, it got me thinking about how worthwhile it was to have a go with you.
3nodding Cognitive Genome
I'm sorry that I wasn't able to finish it - I was going through a positively hellish year at the college I was in at the time (which I am no longer part of, thankfully).
Think nothing of it, seriously. Life takes priority over silly diversions like this. ::nod:: Though if you're in this, I wonder if we'll end up doing that again.
whee The "I'm just some random person" Jello that I was using-
((explaination to everyone: the character that I was using around Leviathan at the time was more or less a 'random person', who didn't have any powers, training, or background... he just sort of gave helpful advice to people on RP fighting... the name Jello was really because it's a n00b tendancy to address people's characters as their username if you don't (and even sometimes if you do) specify their name))
- sort of evolved into Tiem Jay (read: TMJ), who is in the Barton bracket. Mmm... stickfights.
My other entries are slightly less 'jokes' than that one, though.

You were the first person I ever really saw on Gaia who truly knew how to fight. I was sort of a psuedo-fighter, in that I could be considered literate but really didn't know truly how to fight effectively. I enjoyed that fight so much, and it is a true shame we never got to finish it (albeit the outcome was more than obvious). It is also a shame that you have retired from fighting, as I would love to spar you again sometime
biggrin .
Well, thank you very much.
whee Now that's the type of compliment that can really make a man's day.
3nodding Don't belittle yourself, though, you did pretty well, and the potential was obvious. No doubt you've grown much since then.
domokun Heh, yeah, it is true that I 'retired' from fighting shortly after that... or was it shortly before that? Either way, I don't really fight as a career, and in RP I've been making characters that sort of shy away from direct combat if they can. When asked to spar, I like to play the underdog, because it keeps things interesting.
3nodding heart Though don't take that as an "I don't do it anymore", more or less as a "I don't do it very much". If you want to spar I usually ask what you want to fight against, since I have characters that cater to most fighting styles, with most every kind of weapon... only thing I'm not big on are mages, though I've been sort of segueing into that by using characters with weaker, but creatively used, abilities.
...also, I've begun to ramble 'in my old age'.

I fancy myself as a somewhat better fighter nowadays. After actually studying an actual martial art (
heart to Tang Soo Do), I have something of a basic concept of fighting, maybe more.
xd Basic concept, for the win!
blaugh ...honestly, RP rewards that above many things. If you have a basic understanding of how something works, you can hammer out the finer details through practice and just simply thinking about it for a while.
3nodding Heck, most of what I draw from comes from being a generally energetic and bouncy individual, and a basic understanding of vector force.
As I'm sure I've said at some point, somewhere: "Do NOT ******** with a physicist." In the time I've been RPing I've reverse-engineered enough martial arts and melee combat styles through basic physics that I'm not going to even attempt to count them. o___o;;;
FTW!
scream *Nazi salute!*
... ... ... ...what are you all looking at?
sweatdrop Mmm... ego masturbation.
rofl There's
waaaaay too much of that in some places.
crying And then one in passing:
The Fierce Deity
Fierce really hasn't run into anything he couldn't punch through and/or toss across the battlefield, and his energy attacks are likewise impressive. I have one character that I'd like to describe as the most physically strong 'person' in existence. Though even to that I'd have to throw in clauses and whatnot... not like he's the strongest thing ever, since things much bigger than him could very likely lift more, and people who are powered by 'ki' or 'magic' to give themselves super-strength might be stronger. However, in a purely physical sense (meaning, having no abilities/superpowers to enhance things), I'd consider that character the epitome of physical strength.
Though the middle of that paragraph is really what this is all about... Beyond a certain point, the physical aspect of characters is no longer really physical, but metaphysical. They use powers to enhance the physical aspects of their characters... speed, strength, jumping ability, and how much they can withstand.
As you describe, Deity has insurmountable physical ability and magical ability, fueled by ki (a metaphysical energy). You could drop a building on him and he'd shrug it off. However, you throw in an anti-magic field around him which negates all those bonuses, and a bodybuilder from South Beach will punch his lights out.
...just thought I'd bring that point up. There's the real physical limit of things (the point at which the output of the muscles reaches the limit, or surpasses the limit of the body and the stress of trying to perform certain actions damages the muscle and bone structures), there's the exagerated limit of monsters and other such creatures (who we can assume have much more durable bones, skin, and such, as well as a higher mass/strength output for muscles), and then there is the point where it's simply... unnatural.
