Whatever trucks were driving on the grass deserved to stop, because they were idiots for not sticking to the roads that lead into the city. Not like it really mattered much, the convoy had rolled through the thick of the army and what was left was a scattered remnant of what it once was. Any trucks that were disabled would be similarly thrown if their passengers were in any sort of capable condition, except they wouldn't target the mages, but the gate itself. Trucks descended upon and rolled through the troops attempting to pour through the gate.
Reyin, meanwhile, had a bit of a bigger problem to worry about. Unfortunately for him the thing wasn't charging straight to the combine, though how it pulled up alongside was a bit of a mystery, unless it just plowed through a thresher in order to do so.
The combines that had been jumped upon were left to their own devices, really. There was only so much Reyin could do and the robots weren't really killing machines. Reyin was the only fighter in the group, and as good as he was he doubted he could take care of all those living tanks before the combines were taken out. So...
"Shi-!"
Reyin jumped, and the claws snapped shut just underneath his sneakers. Reyin landed atop the pincer, and looked down to his new landing zone.
"Bill! PUNCH IT!"
Bilding complied, shifting the combine into another gear and flooring the accelerator. A billow of smoke rose from an exhaust pipe, and the rest of the combines, damaged as they were, attempted to follow suit.
Reyin just seemed to be happy that he wasn't, y'know, dead. Precariously balancing on the pincers of the very big, very angry thing.

The handheld torch in Sam's hand went off again and again in short bursts, as sparks and flecks of heat went against the oversized goggles she wore. Yanking out wiring, she brought the torch in, the searing heat repairing connections that were no longer needed.
She was working against a pretty heavy clock, and there was only so much more time before horrible things began flooding in and interrupting her work.
The three bots had long since gone offline, to conserve power, they had told her. She wondered if it was just not to face the prospect that an accident could occur and they would be put offline permanently...
Leaning back, she wiped her forearm against the side of her face, smiling faintly. "Well... that about does it..."
Long ago, the bots in Aekea had been used as tools of warfare. They had long since been placed under modded restrictions and put to 'civilian' use. Something about a 'bug' in the system that caused way too much friendly fire...
But these three bots here... were special. And Sam had just brought their weapons systems back online.
And with a steady hum, all three of them began powering back up.
One thing was for sure; they weren't going to be offering the latest tile set or furniture to the undead horde.

And about that army outside, being run over by various impliments of destruction that used to be farm equipment?
"Targets aquired. Holy s**t, they're having a field day."
The captain of the Spooky smirked and said, "Hope they're ready for more fun. Chainguns set, mortar loaded?"
The crew in the back grinned and said, "We got 'em ready! Say the word!"
The captain nodded. "Let's rain hell on these bastards. Fire!"
The chainguns were first to fire, 30mm Arc Disruptor rounds firing down on the army below, tearing through mage shielding. The 120mm mortar was next, not long after the chainguns were activated. Massive explosions would begin (hopefully) tearing through the enemy lines as if they were wet paper.
If all went well and they were still distracted, this could very well be the turning point.
Meanwhile, R.I.O.T. Ten had successfully reached the place where whatever that airship had dropped was. Their weapons tore through zombies like a hot knife through butter, but the real toys were reserved for whoever was taking care of... whatever the hell that was.
"Quick and quiet," the Captain said softly over his radio. "I want those guys taken out. We're going to blow this thing back to the Hell from whence it came if we have to. If not, we capture it and find out what it is. Get it done."
They moved into position, waiting for the signal to fire.

"Keep this bird in the air, boys, or there won't be any virgins at the party!" Krik yelled, gripped his seat as the Vengeance shook under the heavy fire.
Vengeance was still rising and retreating, Wraiths taking what damage they can to block it from hitting the airship and sacrificing themselves. Engines were operating at full power, bringing the airship away at a swift pace until one of them got a hole blasted through it, disabling it and bringing its speed down a bit.
"Captain, a message from the Draconis. They are withdrawing from Durem and coming here to assist us. We are being advised to keep forces here occupied until they have arrived."
"Tell them we're under too much heavy anti-air fire to maintain our position and that we are withdrawing to a safe distance. It should be ready by the time they arrive, if they don't find a way to break through those barriers as well," Krik replied.
Meanwhile, the mages continued standing around what looked like a polished black obelisk and continued their chanting.
The Necromorphs had vanished, which was not a good sign. Inside one of the buildings that they had run inside would be a giant, freshly dug hole, dropping down into the sewers.

"Hmm? Sir, they stopped attacking..."
The leader was not so sure he liked that. They just retreated, like that? No, there had to be something missing. "Pursue them. Open up a channel to the base, tell them to be on full alert. I want everything they have at the ready. Those gunships up there need to clear a path, just in case a full retreat is needed. Get it done, people."
R.I.O.T. Five got their asses moving while the two gunships got to the process of cleaning out the zombies that prevented any escape from the base. Someone had to do the dirty work, and it might as well be them.
R.I.O.T. Ten meanwhile was in position for the strike. The leader switched visors on his helmet and scanned the object for any signs of a barrier- yay for special equipment. "Stand by... I'm seeing what defense we're up against. We might need what's left of Eight here to help us out."

The army, although its front lines had been decimated, was by no means completely destroyed by the farm equipment. It would simply take more time for the army to reach the gates now, it was not as if their whole force had simply allowed themselves to be run over, and now with the large space around them, the army was readily spilling behind the farm equipment as it made its way into the city.
Unfortunately though, the mortar fire was taking a toll on the back lines of the army, destroying forces there left and right. Some shielding would remain active as not all bullets would strike the mages hidden within the back of the army, but other mages would be struck down, bringing down large areas of shield making it vulnerable to the mortar fire. Panic was spreading through the Dead-man army, they had been assured air support, but they were being squashed like bugs beneath the enemies ships.
The mages still in the front lines however now began to seriously attack the Mack trucks, flames billowed around them, metal would sizzle and begin to heat to red hot. Then accelerator pedal would probably be one of the first things to go in the heat, along with the brake pedal, flames consumed the front of each truck, they had to be stopped.
The creatures meanwhile had gone about tearing up the combiners quite well, except for Reyin's. The cabins of the combiners completely demolished, their drivers scattered among the fields. The machines slowed to a halt, and the creatures moved on, this time to the tractors dragging the threshers.
The creature's pincers that Reyin was balancing on suddenly opened again as Reyin landed on them, and closed just as suddenly. It aimed to drop Reyin in between them, and then sever him in two. It screamed in a high pitched tone at Reyin as it did so, bits of saliva flying from its maw.

But of course, the cavalry had arrived, late as usual. The rest of the Force Recon Marines had appeared, and just in time to spot those that had successfully made it past the vehicles.
"Not today. Fire on the bastards."
The side doors of each Sea Knight opened up, revealing a pair of heavy machine guns for each helicopter. 50-caliber bullets began raining down on the incoming Dead-Men as the ramps and undersides opened up. With cover fire laid down, the Marines began to fast rope to the streets and begin the offensive.

A portal opened in the sky with a massive volley of rapid cannon fire coming out of it, blanketing the bases and anything in the skies around them. The Draconis III emerged from the portal, flying out in front of the retreating Vengeance. Wraiths were already deploying from underneath its wings to swarm the skies.
"The Draconis! Thank the Dark Eternal, it's here," Captain Krik exclaimed. "All hands, prepare to combine with the flagship!"
"Captain Krik, it's good to see you haven't been blown out of the sky yet," Captain Starrow said upon hailing the smaller airship. "We are ready to receive you."
On the ground, the crew getting in position near the mages circled around the obelisk would see readings going off the charts in scans. Whatever enchantments were protecting them were clearly epic in scale, and the readings were even higher coming from the obelisk itself. Unfortunately, they would not be able to discern what any enchantments were in place.

"Holy s**t... that's one hell of a wall."
But of course, he heard the cannon fire and cursed vehemently. "If it's not one thing, it's another... Can't tell what exactly is protecting this thing, either. And with that airship, Eight can't lift a finger. We're gonna have to deal wtih this ourselves..."
He switched helmet visors again, back to the regular heads-up display. "All elements, go quiet and fire on those mages. A few shots to the head should do it; I'm not getting any readings of defenses around them. Hopefully, they're the ones causing the protection... and not doing something worse."
And with all the noise going on, the enemy would not hear the silenced weapons going off. The mages would be hit all at once with fire from multiple angles. From this, one of two things would happen: either they would be alerted to their presence, or they would be taken down handily, without a fuss.
**
And of course, R.I.O.T. Eight were ready for the cannon fire.
One of three Defensive Formations involved the five pointed pentacle, encased in a circle. Since there happened to be five operatives here, it was a good tactic to use. The sigil involved interconnecting beams of light coming from the palms of the mages, first forming a star, and then a circle to keep it held together. With each mage's spell bolstering each other's, and in turn, the shielding, it would quickly double the effectiveness of the wall that was in place.
They had long since assumed this formation and done the necessary steps, and now it was time to see if it worked. At its best, the cannons would be null and void- at the very worst, they would be cut down to half of their effectiveness, but still dampened.
And it did, to some extent. The base wouldn't be going down any time soon, but it could have been better. For the moment however, the cannons would do no good just shooting at it.
Shield Integrity: 298
"Damn it," the Security Chief said with a sigh, "They just keep coming, don't they? And that other ship probably has better shielding, too. Fine... we'll just-"
"Sir, the first ship is breaking towards the second."
He grimaced and said, "I figure it's time to end this. Ready the FAE shells, target the one without the shielding. Let's see how they like this..."
The artillery shells were quickly switched out for the bigbads, teams underground changing loadouts. It would take a minute to do so, but once they were set, it'd be one hell of a fireworks show, if nothing else.
"Guns repositioning, target locked. All batteries are on standby, waiting for the go-code."
The Security Chief nodded and said, "Erase them."

((If they were near the base, then yeah.)) Quote: And with all the noise going on, the enemy would not hear the silenced weapons going off. The mages would be hit all at once with fire from multiple angles. From this, one of two things would happen: either they would be alerted to their presence, or they would be taken down handily, without a fuss. Or three, the shooters had their heads blown off. The mages didn't need to be aware of their surroundings, so long as they maintained the barrier surrounding them and the obelisk. One of those defensive enchantments happened to be spacial displacement. Like the airship's field, anything coming into it would vanish upon contact, but come out somewhere else instead of where it had been seconds ago. In this case, the head shots were displaced so that the rounds were flying to the heads of the shooters instead. The ceremony was nearly complete. The obelisk began to glow with an ominous crimson aura. As if things weren't bad enough, the portal in the sky was still open, and the dracoliches that survived the skirmish in Durem were now flying out of it - the red dracoliches. They swept over the city, flying over the bases, spreading their fear auras and launching searing gouts of flame to immolate buildings. They banked off as the Draconis III continued firing upon the bases and surrounding areas, while the Vengeance moved toward the back of Draconis III, where a large section began opening up to receive the damaged airship. The runes glowing around it also turned off, but it would not be noticeable from the ground. Meanwhile, underground, the Necromorphs were tunneling...

((And sadly, they were not.))
But see, that was why they wore helmets. But they couldn't take another shot like that. Unfortunately, dealing with another displacement field was not in the cards today. Still, whatever the hell this thing was, they weren't about to let it light up like some kind of candle. Even the leader was hit, but he was all right for the moment.
"Give me a head count!"
"We're all here sir, but they are too. Orders?"
"Hold your fire. I'm making a call."
They had to try R.I.O.T. Eight and hope that someone was free.
Fortunately, the Defensive Formation only took a moment to complete, and once it was done, that shield would hold for as long as it could, and without any kind of support from the team. Another distress call was sent in, and the leader of the five-man squad honed in on it.
"Damn it, another one? As if we didn't have enough problems... hopefully this one will go down just as easily. Get moving, people."
Even from this distance, a dispel was possible. Question was, would it work? They would just have to see, because it sounded like time was running out. That displacement barrier would be hit with that same dispel, and it would, with any luck, go down soon.
**
"Sir, we're getting new readings; that shield on the second airship is down!"
The Security Chief raised an eyebrow and said, "They deliberately let their shielding drop?" He shook his head and said, "I suppose we should count ourselves lucky. That other one might have gotten away, but this one won't."
Using the targeting data from the sattelite above, the guns changed their trajectory. If any shots landed, it would be worth it. And they were FAE shells to boot- those would not only put a few dents in the damn thing, but ******** it up something fierce.
"Locked."
The man smirked.
"Put a hole in them, before they get wise."
The guns fired with a series of resounding booms as multiple shells began streaking towards the airship at high velocity.
**
The Necromorphs were followed by R.I.O.T. Five, their night vision goggles active.
The Captain was right- they were tunneling. If one couldn't go around, they would most certainly go under. This time, they had something else in mind instead of just standard rockets. Beforehand, each demolitions man had armed their rocket launchers with Penetrators. If nothing else, they should immoblize the damn things handily, if not outright kill them.
As soon as each one was in sight, the men underground fired on them.

The displacement field was dispelled, but the mages were still surrounded by another barrier - one that changed colors every few seconds. It was going to take more than a simple dispel to get rid of this one. The obelisk began glowing stronger with a sickly light, and began radiating bursts of negative energy in a 30-foot radius. The ceremony was nearly complete.
Draconis III did not lower its defenses; it only dropped a section of it around the area that the Vengeance was entering the larger airship. All those shots fired would wind up right back in the barrels, still hot, possibly exploding as they fought for space with the current round chambered. They must have had faulty equipment. Draconis returned fire as Vengeance entered it from behind, the runes around that open section re-activating as soon as it was inside the range of its field. It engulfed the smaller airship, and with their powers combined, I am Captain Planet! a dark violet light began shimmering around the ship.
Something bad was about to happen.
Underground, the Necromorphs were caught unawares as rockets began bombarding them. The explosions killed some and knocked a few others away, badly burned and bleeding black ichor. It also ruptured a gas line, which immediately filled that tunnel with exploding fire. Ouch.
