He's ten the day he does it - it's not hard, obviously. The photos are all in their frames on his desk, and so is the photo album - he has his own personal one, because, his mother says, he has his own personal memories.

He throws the frames to the floor, watching the glass tinkle with violent pleasure, and uses Permanent Marker to scratch bows and ribbons onto every one of his father's little heads in the photos.

His mother buys new frames, but doesn't let him move the photo album. It's a reminder, she says.

He's not actually good at chess.

By that he means he's awful at it: *** is the taking orders kind of guy, not the one that lets people know what their jobs are and when they need to be done by. That doesn't stop him from playing, of course: Nadya loves it so all her friends love it, too.

And of course she trounces them all with satisfaction, gum popping in her mouth - her kind of personal applause. For herself.

Even so, when Scair Roads calls her a nerd, ***'s the first to make him want to take it back.

"Stop reading all the book **** I want to go fight, I want to train and you should do the same," Aklin said "As there is only so much you can learn from a book. If you do not go out I will give you twenty questions of thing you don't want to answer," he said really loudly as he knew what was best.

His mother applies for a second job when they know for sure he's not coming back.

And then she does it again, when she's rejected.

She's taking classes on the side and getting training, but every time she shows up for the interview (she always makes the interview) they learn she's a single mother with a little growing unicorn boy and she comes home with only a single part-time job. Of course, *** doesn't know that until a year later, when she tells him (she tells him everything, eventually), and he doesn't even imagine it because she's a really good actor.

She's so good that two weeks after that she lands a role, something she'd only tried for on a whim. Inside ***'s chest it feels like bubbles are rising to the surface, and he's warm, warm, warm.

It's a good feeling!

History tests are easy. *** is good at taking things in.

It's the B on the maths test that gets his mom to pick him up and pop a kiss on his cheek like he's three again, because she knows that's where he struggles most.

Her head was on the chopping block. Red curls were everywhere like pre-emptive blood and *** had never felt so in control.

< < Do it, > > someone hissed in her ear. Pride and vengeance mingled with impatience.

The taunts were silenced. She was in control now.

*** couldn't hesitate any longer; her anger swelled as she thought of how the witch had toyed with her, lashed out when *** had only meant to find someone else. Who was the doll now?

The greatsword swings down, finds resistance in her flesh--and then cuts through entirely.

It dissipated after a while, but the damage had been done.

Her stomach was grateful only a little blood had gushed out before it left.

Creative Memory

There was a boy she liked, and she had often heard it said that a gift made yourself was better than a gift you could buy. So here she was, wrists deep in glue, wood and glitter, desperately trying to make something worthy of him. She was trying to make a game board, though the game itself seemed beyond her grasp, the board looked simple enough. She adorned it with pieces of metal, or shards of precious stone she found and in the end it looked...alright. The edges were a little off, and it seemed a little less square than it should be, but she had worked so hard on it. She wasn't sure she could do any better even if she had unlimited time to do it. With a heavy sigh she set it on a shelf to dry and cure. It wasn't right, but it would have to do. Maybe it would look better in the morning.

((Main blessing: 2/3))

He had called everyone together, had gathered them all here, to get back something he had lost. He had gone to Medea, gotten help from Sal to reach her, to speak to her about what he needed. He now had the sigil of the lost clans on the back of his hand, and he stared at that now, concentrated on it. She had told him to call her when he had everyone gathered.

Was it enough? Was she going to come?

Near him, Mort, his zombro stood. Mei was there as well, and Xiu, and Danny, and so many others. So many friends all in one place, all there to help, all there to get back the students that had been taken by the hunters.

Was it nearly time? Could they go and get them back soon?

"Yin.." He whispered, and nearly choked on the emotion as it threatened to claw his way out of his chest.

Would he ever see his boilfriend, the one that he only recently admitted his love to, ever again?

She got him back in small ways. Making plans when he tried to get her alone, brushing him off at school, ignoring his phone calls and texts. It was only angering him, she knew, but *** did not care.

For once, she had a little power. It was good to make him squirm.

It was sad to hold domestic abuse over him like this because, in truth, there was no real physical evidence; Jack had been careful in his deconstruction, used words rather than fists most of the time. Open-palmed if he was impulsive, places where clothes hid.

Sticks and stone could break her bones, but words would hurt much worse.

They both knew there was little she could do, but it was the paranoia of knowing she was aware now that plagued him; she knew he had been getting less sleep, was less intense about having her around, and was often looking as though distracted by something. And for now, until her world gave her a different exit that wouldn't shun her from Heaven, it would do.

[memory 5]

He was miles from home and yet, it felt like they were right there. “Yes mum, I’m doing fine. No, I don’t need another pair of shoes, I have plenty, yes I’ve made new friends. I have been keeping up with my homework.” He listened to her rattle on but smiled. It was nice to hear her voice even if it was silly little things.

Then the phone was passed. “You’ve grown. I’m proud of you. Keep up the good work.”

His tail glowed. “Mother… I can’t wait to come home for vacation.”

“I’ll see you soon.”

((Main Blessing 3/3))

This was it.

He sat on his bed in his dorm room, going over what had just happened in his head. It had been perfect, everything had gone as well as he could have hoped. And now?

Now he was going to be getting married.

Of course, it was going to have to wait until after grad, but it was going to happen! Yin had said yes! Well...apparently he had already said yes but now he said yes and Alex had actually heard it and was conscious for it!

He couldn't have been happier. Not in a million years would he be able to be any happier then he was in this moment.

He needed to call somebody, needed to tell them! He picked up his skellyphone and punched in the number of the first person he could think of who would share in his excitement with him. The one who he could always seem to talk to about things like this, and who he knew would want every last detail of what had happened, and would likely want to be involved in the planning as well, if he'd let her get away with it.

It was time to give Belladonna a call.

{ main blessing three }

It was a letter from her mother. Her monah.

Delicate script stared back at her from the page, emanating all the warmth and affection a master of their kind's craft could meld into their ink. Even being penned by such immense claws, onto parchment meant for *****'s now much smaller hands, it was shatteringly beautiful. She scarcely wished to touch the paper, in fear of ruining a fiber of this masterpiece.

Even if the words broke her heart.

Ovfeimal was not going to recant his exile of her. It looked like it was going to be... well. Official. Permanent. Really, she could have guessed as much when she'd been forced to fly the scorched lands outside their territory without wisp or fiber of supplies or assistance. He'd meant for her to succumb to the environment. He hadn't expected her to swallow her pride and go into another clan's territory. Never mind make her way into areas more densely populated. But her mother had. She read each ounce of pride her mother seeped into the fibers of the page. They could not see each other, not likely for quite some time. But they could try to write. Her mother had acquaintances she could trust to deliver the pages from within clan territory. And then bring pieces from ***** back.

She cried. Ink slid down her cheeks. She smiled. Her cheeks ached. She tenderly held the paper to her chest. She still had a piece of her home. She was not forgotten.

Until she heard one voice as to were they were and then she remember and wanted to forget her trial as that was something she didn’t want to experience anytime soon. She heard what was asked and though for a second that sleep would be good but brushed that idea out of her head quickly. “I…I want to fight, sir,” she had finally said.

"Are you lost?" A voice called out to her.

She couldn't remember who it was at all. She just heard it, him, or her, calling to her.

"We better get you back *****. Ready to get back home?"

Leia thought she felt like she had nodded at that moment, when the figure began to hold her hand out to her, and began to walk somewhere.

Another one flew by her, knowing it was the sad fact of defeat that would never go away, something that she did want to give up, but couldn't.

She could remember their eyes staring back at her, and a pair of scissors that followed.

And she thought she heard a scream.
