Harupiggy Zephyrkitty Harupiggy I saw it again. :D Gave me a new idea for a book. Oh, yeah, novel ideas, I have tons of them. In this one, the riders, when the dragons are born, they mutilate a certain part of a dragon to make it totally dependent on them. Like, maybe blinding it, or ripping a side of its tail fin. Something important to the dragon. So the bond is much stronger, and they are more of an entity than simply a dragon and a human.
I dunno, seemed like a cool idea. Rider-dependent dragons due to intentional mutilation. Maybe? Intentional mutilation seems like it'd be more likely to cause problems than strengthen a bond. Blinding a dragon means it can't run away, but it also means that it's all but helpless if something happens to the rider (which seems really likely considering that the dragon can't exactly see to dodge things). Ripping off part of the tail fin also seems less like it'd make the dragon dependent on the rider and more like it'd completely screw up the dragon's ability to fly. I would also figure that someone causing a severe mutilation and then acting as your controller would result in a very warped relationship, although that's not necessarily good or bad. Since it's done at birth, total dependence on a rider is all the dragon knows. If it's been blind from birth, its rider serves as its seer.
Oh right. These are the are the more complex dragons. More than just animals. Like you know how Lapras or Lugia can do the mind-talk thing. That.
Also, I was thinking it'd be similar to riding relationship between Hiccup and Toothless in How to Train Your Dragon. That's where the tail fin part came into mind. Hiccup was basically the missing-tail fin.
Also, warped relationship is what's been aimed for. :3 It'd mostly be a story that questions the treatment of the dragons. They use the mutilation as a dependence technique to tame them from birth. Ah. It might work, then; one of the first things that came to mind was not being able to react to sudden changes if you're in a battle or something, so a mind-link would help there. *hasn't seen How to Train Your Dragon*

I mean, dragons that are just willing to be ridden seems to me, not very realistic.
As realistic as you can get with dragons, I mean.
You should see it, it's pretty cool. xD Me and my friend were gonna see Kickass, but we missed it, so we decided on Hot Tub Time Machine, but my friend is only seventeen and I don't have my I.D yet. xD So we saw How to Train Your Dragon instead.
