It varies usually. While out adventuring, an event might be triggered and you'll discover one. There's not really a specific procedure for it. During one of my missions, I was underground, discovered a box, rummaged through the box (while rolling) and discovered a berry inside of it.

My character is Momo in this guild. She's a Guard member. But I've been here for awhile so my character has a fair amount of pokemon.

Additionally a note is that growing berries requires you to have a pokemon with a water-type on your land, and it has to be planted on your land by you, and depending on which land your Pokemon needs food.
