(Enter from Main Island: The Academy)

(25) Well apologizing to Akemi proved to be an utter waste of time. The boy left right in the middle of training just to get an assholish-response life that. It looked like old habits were hard to break. "Meh..." the boy shrugged it off as he approached Natsumi's door. With a few knocks, the door opened and there stood Natsumi in the middle of the room. It was just wierd that the room seemed to spin slowly. This s**t was far from normal! It was like he was in some alternate universe... until it hit him. Natsumi put Batsu in a genjutsu. Batsu quickly closed his eyes and made a handsign, making sure to change his chakra flow. After doing so, the walls stopped spinning and everything seemed to look normal again.

(29) "Whoa... that was weird!" Batsu was never trapped in genjutsu before, not even by his own siblinngs. So hhe never knew what to expect. But based on first-hand experience, he liked what he saw. It could do a great deal of damage to someone who didn't know any better. This made him love the technique even more. While Batsu was in his own little world, Natsumi slapped another genjutsu on the boy. It took Batsu no time to realize what had happened and he ended up snapping out of it quickly.

(18 ) After coming out of the last genjutsu, Batsu looked over at Natsumi and fussed. "For the love of everything, could you at least warn me?!" Natsumi ended up putting another genjutsu on the boy. In the genjutsu, her voice deepened and it seemed as though time was slowing down. Her voice became a long and drawn out "Noooo...". Batsu freaked and immediately used his technique to get out of there. Things were become way too freaky... way too fast.

(26) Clearly Batsu had gotten himself in over his head by asking Natsumi to train him, but it was all fine by him. The more he was pushed, the stronger he'd become. By now he became a bit arrogant and found himself waiting for Natsumi's next move. The boy ended up being caught again, but found his way out almost as fast as he was put in. The boy ended up sighing as if he was getting bored. This made Natsumi's eyebrow raise. How dare he underestimate what she could do? Batsu made a big mistake, and she was gonna show him the error of his ways.

(13) Natsumi put another genjutsu on Batsu. Whereas things were easy to snap out of, she made sure to toughen the technique a bit.... and make things a bit more gruesome. The boy looked around for a bit and saw that the room had become a tad more dim. He quickly went to break the jutsu but to no avail. Batsu then tried again and noticed something awful. It looked like his skin was falling from his body. The boy began to panic. His heartrate shot up, his eyes widened, and he began to tense up. This was no ordinary technique and Batsu began to realize this. All the while, flesh continued to melt off and fall to the floor.

(13) Batsu tried again as fast as he could to break free again, but he failed yet again. Even more of his skin started to melt away and it made the boy break out into a blood-curdling scream. Natsumi watched Batsu's actions and she smirked sadistically. Maybe now Batsu would realize that underestimating anyone could prove detrimental. She went to break Batsu out, but stopped herself midway. She wanted to see just how strong Batsu really was.

(26) Batsu was damn near destroyed both physically and mentally. The boy was almost removed completely of his own skin and in an act of desperation, he tried to break free from this haunting situation. At long last, he did so and was back to normal. His skin returned and the light returned to the room. But still, Batsu could not shake the fact that he was subjected to such torture. The boy's eyes were filled with tears and his body went limp. Not long after, he dropped to his knees and ended up falling face-first onto the floor.

(14) Natsumi walked over to Batsu and kicked his shoulder gently with her foot. Maybe she shouldn't have gone so far, but Batsu broke free from the technique which was a feat within itself. The woman crouched down and gave Batsu a bit of a lesson. "You cannot let a genjutsu consume you. Yes, it is a mind technique. But you cannot think about it. Thinking and your emotions can and WILL kill you, so stop." Natsumi then stood back up and stared down at Batsu. "Get up..." She became a bit stricter in her approach to teaching, but only because she knew her student could take it. After all, the boy did get up when she demanded it...

(24) Batsu slowly rose to his feet and wiped his tears away from his eyes. He hated being so weak emotionally, but after Natsumi gave him a bit of a lecture, he knew that they had to go. The boy jumped around in place to try and calm his nerves, then he quickly went back into a fighting staance. The boy was now prepared to take Natsumi on and when she put another genjutsu on him he shut it down insanely fast.

(5) Okay... Natsumi decided to put the same jutsu on Batsu that broke him earlier. She wanted to see if he learned anything. Batsu skin began to fall off the bone again and he went to shut it down. He ended up failing and went to scream. The boy stopped himself right before it could escape his mouth. What Natsumi said started to resonate in his head and he shut his mind down from dwelling on what was happening to him.

(26) Despite the fact that he knew he was trapped in another genjutsu, Batsu was relatively fine. He was fairly calm except for his heartrate, which was going at an accelerated rate. Batsu skin was still coming off, but he went in for another chance at breaking the image. He succeeded was freed from Natsumi's genjutsu. His mentor was definitely pleased. Batsu listened to what she had to say and he didn't freak out in the slightest.

(29) Batsu broke though from the jutsu and looked over at Natsumi. She had a proud smirk across her face. It was made known that she was proud of him and wasglad that he was listenening. Batsu, however, did not return the smile. He just wanted to finish up here so he could move on to something else. Batsu wanted for another genjutsu and when Natusmi obliged, he broke free with ease. The boy was reaching perfection and wasn't even finished yet.

(30) The end of training was nearing and the more it approached the more anxious Batsu became. The boy was glaring deep into Natsumi's soul via her eyes and Natsumi did the same in return. She called forth another jutsu and watched as Batsu analyzed it and dissected it. This boy was getting good, and she realized that he was learning at a faster rate than she was at the jutsu.

(21) Natsumi decided to break out the jutsu but make it harder to break out> Batsu didn't care in the slightest. The boy took the jutsu and broke out of it again. Natsumi nodded and congratulated Batsu on finishing the training.. But the celebration was short-lived. The woman looked Batsu up and down and frowned. The boy was not ready for training with he clothes he had on. "Okay, go home and change into something to work out in. Meet me back here and we'll train some more. Deal?" Batsu didn't even give an answer, he just shot out the door and headed home.

Batsu came out of of his own house with a new outfit. He wore a sleeveless vest and shorts with his standard ninja shoes. The boy still wore his ninja band around his neck like before... as well as his fingerless gloves. The boy dashed back to Natsumi-san's house and knocked on the door. The boy looked around and made sure that he didn't notice any anomalies with the surroundings. He was tricked into a genjutsu once before and he damn sure wasn't gonna fall for another one.

(9) Natsumi gave permission for Batsu to come in and he did so.. As the boy entered, Natsumi handed a book to the boy for him to read. "It's a bit of a clue for what's next, so get to reading. Upon looking at the name of the book, Kunais: the do-it-all weapon" Batsu noticed that Natsumi changed clothes as well. She changed into a similar outfit to Batsu's, except her color was pink and she wore a skirt and boots. Batsu flopped down on the ground and started reading.

(8 ) Batsu flipped to the first page of the book and started sighing. He felt as though he knew enough about kunai knives to carry him through the rest of his life.. But he was a long-ranged fighter, so learning about kunais a bit more in detail wouldn't be too much of a waste. So the boy decided to suck it up and finish reading.

(15) Batsu went from sitting dowm to laying on his stomach with his head propped his head on his hand. Batsu's eyes darted across the pages of the book and his eyes lit up when he saw that kunais were the most known ninja tool of all time. Not only that, but it was the most used as well. This worried the male, because it meant that there were others like him as far as throwing weapons were concerned. Not only that, they might end up being better than he was.

(21) Batsu was not about to let his negative thoughts get the best of him. The boy kept reading everything on the page and was finding out more and more about kunai knives. The boy found out about different styles of kunai knives. He was so used to the traditional weapons that were issued by the school and sold in stores. Well for the time being, he decided that it would be best for him to stick to what he was used to.

(13) Batsu flipped the page and all he saw were diagrams of how to through kunai knives. This ended up startling the boy and he had to look away from the book. The boy only knew of one way to do it... his way. Now he had to learn how to throw more efficiently? Great. It looked like he had some serious work to do.

(18 ) Batsu went back to look at the book and started taking hard looks at the pictures. The boy was serious about becoming a better ninja. So if that meant that he had to change his way in order to become stronger, then so be it. The boy decided that he had to suck it up ad bite the bullet on this new change that needed to transpire.

(21) Batsu started to analyze different aspects of the optimal throw. He started to projects different ways to throwing and predict how, when, and where the kunai would hit. Batsu was excellent in math, so when it came to geometry and angles, he knew what he was talking about. So it was up to him to use that to his advantage.

(5) Analyzing was definitly hard work. It wasn't exactly taxing physically, but mentally, he was exhausted. The book hard a bunch of words that he didn't quite understand. So Batsu had to end up using context clues to somewhat comprehend what needed to be understood. However, what he didn't get, he figured he had someone to tell him about the situation... Natsumi-sensei.

(7) Batsu sat back up and placed his hands in his lap. He figured that he'd use his newest resource in order for him to get by. "Hey, Natsumi-sensei... tell me all YOU know about throwing kunais." The girl looked over at Batsu and sorta gave a weird stare. She wasn't exactly proficient in throwing kunai herself... only enough for her to get by. Natsumi replied, all I know is that you need to be proficient enough in the academy to go about your way in the future. I am not the best one to ask." Natsumi gave a nervous chuckle while Batsu dropped his head.

(22) "Well that was a waste of time.." Batsu said to himself the boy quickly grabbed the book, flipped the page, and kept reading. Batsu started to see more diagrams. This time, they were focused on different throwing styles. One in particular stood out. It was a simple overhand throw, but it looked like it could be modified many different ways in order for him to pull off some kind of showmanship.

(17) Batsu kept staring at that same picture and started thinking of many different ways to show off, as well as intimidate anyone dumb enough to oppose him. In the end, he decided against such a thing and chose to stick to what he knew. There wasn't a reward for being the fanciest ninja in the world, as far as he knew.

(14) Batsu kept reading deeper into the book and started to yawn. He knew he had to stay up though . Kunai was the subject of the book and Narumi said that it was a clue to his next training. That meant that long-ranged training was soon to come. The more Batsu thought about it, the more alert he became.

(18 ) The book was drawing closer to the end, and Batsu was looking forward to doing some more training with Natsumi-san. The only thing that stood between that was reading the rest of the book. His eyes scanned the page and rolled his eyes. It was going over more throwing styles and trajectories. He got it the first few illustrations, so now it was looking like the book was repeating itself.

(14) Batsu flipped the page of the book and saw that the subject changed to the history of the kunai. The boy groaned in disappointment. He could care less about the history of anything right now. He just wanted to become better at throwing weapons. Learning that the kunai is one of the oldest ninja tools was absolutely irrelevant to him.

(9) Reading this was making Batsu grow sleepy. He ended up propping his head onto his arm and closed his eyes. After a bit of time his head went from his hand to inside of the book. Natsumi saw the whole thing and gave Batsu a gentle kick to his side. It wasn't enough to cause any pain, but it was enough to startle the young boy and make him return to reading... even if Batsu was growing sick of reading.

(19) Batsu shook his drowziness off and went back to reading the history of the kunai. After staring at the illustration of the primitive form of it, he realized that it was oddly similar to the ones he use now. No mater, he felt he was pretty good at it, no matter how old the weapon was. Batsu turned the page and there was nothing else to read. Batsu was done reading, and he was happy about it. Now he could go and do something more interesting.

Batsu was now done with his training and was clearly ready to proceed with training. By now, the boy realized that weapons training was next on the agenda. Natsumi was not nearly as excited as Batsu was. Meh... whatever. Natsumi took the book from Batsu and placed it back on the bookshelf. She then turned and faced Batsu. "Okay, by now, you should know what's next. I have to go and pick up some supplies. You are to go straight to the grove and wait. You are not to go anywhere else. Do you understand?"

Batsu picked up on Natsumi-san's tone. This girl meant what she said and would probably kill him if he didn't do as instructed. The boy couldn't do anything put nod in compliance. Afterwards, he turned and exited her instructor's house.

(11+25=36)
Masaraku dropped her bags and entered her new home. It was small, but it was all hers. Something rank caught her nose, the smell was disgusting, her gills flared as they filled with chakra. Something wreaked of a scent she couldn't put her finger on, but she began to approach the scent as she entered her home.

(8+25=33)
The chakra continued to flood her nostrils, it was making the smell that much more nauseating, but it was nearly an unconscious effort, and the more she did it the closer to the scent she got. She still couldn't put her foot on what the smell was, but it definitely made her a little hungry despite the awful smell.

(6+25=31)
Masaraku continued to search for the smell, her gills filled with the scent, she was lead to the back door. Upon opening it the smell became much stronger as she entered the mist of the city. She wanted to vomit, but that one good smell amongst the bad made her keep trying to find it. Something like garbage, but not quite garbage.

(1+25=26)
Masaraku felt her way through the back alleys of the Hoshigaki compound without the slightest idea as to where she was going. Her gills were still filled with the chakra that carried the scent into her body as it lingered on the mist. She tried to pick the good scent out from the bad. It was like burnt copper and garbage ...

(11+25=36)
Masaraku came into an opening with a large tree and several huts. A more secluded area that was definitely at the outskirts of the compound. What was this place? The smell was strongest here, it must be nearby. She had a good grip on the scent and she finally identified what had brought her here. The scent of blood.

Part II:

(5+25=30)
Masaraku walked into the center of the huts, realizing why this section looked so different. It was where they sent those born outside the bloodline. The smell were coming from different places thankfully. Masaruka went towards the smell on the right, toward the burnt, fire, copper smell and away from the garbage and s**t smell.

(1+25=26)
Then she found herself staring up at a hut. For a moment she stared at it before realizing that the smell was coming from behind the hut. She looked for a gate and found one, approaching it nervously as she smelled the burnt copper smell just around the corner. It was almost like food.

(19+25=44)
She gently pushed the gate open, seeing a back yard with a fire pit surrounded by fish, but the copper-like blood scent was coming from a shed that was past the fire. Masaraku approached the fire pit and inhaled deeply through her nostrils. 'It smells so good.' She thought silently to herself.

(11+25=36)
Her gaze traveled upward toward the blood smell and she saw a man in the shed raising a cleaver into the air, below him was a giant fish. She watched in awe as he hacked away at the beast, not because of the act, but because she could smell the blood, it was practically overwhelming her.

(12+25=37)
Not all the blood belonged to the fish though, other creatures tempted her into the shed, mesmerized by the smell she just continued to follow it inside. She looked at the different creatures. Deer, lamb, shark, tuna. This man was a butcher of some kind. Her hand reached out for the deer skin and suddenly she snapped back into reality as the butcher began to yell at her. Masaraku ran off back to her room. There she found a messenger bird telling her she had a mission awaiting at the academy. She popped inside and grabbed her nodachi before dashing outside and taking off for the academy.

((Training Precedes current time, please do not interact.))

7+25= 32 (FAIL)
Masaraku decided that she would need to know more jutsu before setting out on her journey to the village of Douchi. She had chosen the villages signature jutsu, the hidden mist technique. Everything depended on her focusing on the well in the middle of the clan's courtyard. trying to make mist from the water below. As of yet she had been unsuccessful.

19+25= 44 (PASS)
Masaraku focused a bit harder on the well, reaching within the very bowels of her soul, or lack there of, to find her hidden strength. Her face began to show the slightest traits of excitement as fog billowed out of the edges of the well, but she quickly hid the smile, one success was never enough to actually learn the jutsu, she would need to try harder.

2+25= 27 (FAIL)
Masaraku tried to focus on the well again to increase the fog, but her spirits lowered quite a bit when she instead saw the opposite effect, the smoke withdrew into the well again and Masaraku released her hand sign, losing hope on this attempt and closing her eyes in an attempt to clear her head.

19+25= 44 (PASS)
After the short reprieve she once again made the hand signs and focused upon the well. She watched closely as her effort lead to a success and the mist came forth from the stone well creating a somewhat eerie effect upon the Hoshigaki clan's courtyard. Joy was the only expression she could feel as it stretched further out than before.

17+25= 42 (PASS)
Masaraku continued to focus on the well, the fog billowing out more and more, she watched with excitement as it rolled towards her, her gills filling with the scent of the surrounding air as it became damper than normal. It felt wonderful to be able to sense so much about her surroundings, and it was beginning to show on her face.

9+25= 34 (FAIL)
Sadly this brief moment of joy was quickly ruined. She had lost focus when she stopped concentrating on the well and it had cost her dearly. Masaraku watched as he mist ascended to the heavens ever so slowly, disappearing from view and leaving her behind in her own sorrow. Two steps forward, one step back.

9+25= 34 (FAIL)
Masaraku tried to shake it off and concentrate, but she couldn't for some reason. For the first time in a long time she was failing, and the last time she had failed it had cost the life of her entire squad, genin or not it was their blood on her hands. The village didn't see it that way, they only saw an avalanche, but she could have pushed them out of the way or if she had known more jutsu ...

20+25= 45 (PASS)
She took another break from training for a bit, sitting on the bench and wallowing in her misery. Eventually though she got sick of being sad and got up, her eyes locked on the well with a rage, she had to learn this jutsu for the sake of her squad mates, and she had to be a leader to them so that they wouldn't get killed. In her rage the well came bubbling over again and she had another success that was further and better than those before.

6 +25= 31 (FAIL)
Unfortunately, rage is not a great source for concentration or power, and as the anger took hold of her the jutsu broke, reversing itself and sucking back into the well again, another failure on her part, and another break needed. She sat down for a good while, just breathing in the damp air through her gills and out of her mouth, relaxing her mind and calming her body as she thought and focused.

11+25= 36 (PASS)
She got up again and focused on the well. No more rage clouding her focus and no more sadness clouding her thoughts. She performed the hand signs and locked her sights on the well, watching as the fog rose again, nearly touching her feet again, but this time from a single use. she was winning again.

Gennosuke walked through the housing district feeling a bit better than usual. He had been out of commission for a while thanks to pneumonia and his new habit of smoking didn't help him heal any quicker. He put his hand in his pocket and removed one of the cancer sticks and put it in his mouth. He then removed a box of matches from his jacket pocket and took one from the box and rubbed it along the side causing it to ignite. After lighting the cigarette he took a pull from it and expelled the smoke.

"Hmmm, now to find something to do," he said to himself as he looked around. He was sure there was something to get into in the village. He hadn't heard much from anyone and outside of his parents he hadn't talked to anyone for a while.

Keon finally makes it to his apartment for the first time since he was shown where it was when joining the academy. As he enters he notices all of his belongings are still packed away in boxes. His fridge was plugged in so he placed the leftovers in the empty fridge save a few jugs of water.

He started un packing boxes most of which containing weights and other things from his small gym he assembled from things his grandfather made for him. Other than the gym equiptment, he had some clothes and books, some toys carved from wood and a few blanks with a knife that had a note attatched to the handle.

Don't forget about me.
-Grandpa
P.S. Smile.

Keon placed the crafting tools on the desk his parents put in his room and finished with everything left in boxes before falling in his bed and taking a nap.

Keon woke up an hour later, give or take a minute or two. He got a glass of water and showered. He put on som pants boots and his padded gloves, and for the first time in a while, a shirt. He grabbed a light jacket just in case the night was cold and he over-worked his body. When he was ready he left for the academy to finish his training for the day.

((This training occurs somewhere after Hiru's fight with Andou-sensei))

Hiruken (Leech Fist)
User Image
A special fighting style in which the user is in a constant state of chakra absorption. Every single one of his attacks is aimed at major chakra centers of his opponent's body as much to drain chakra as to inflict damage. Therefore, impact intensity is sacrificed in favor of longer contact with the victim. Given the fact that every absorption is so brief and accompanied with physical pain, the victim cannot summon his will to prevent the drain.

Hiru had just gotten back from his sparring session with Andou sensei. He was still holding his chest with his hand as much from the pain now than it had been to stop the bleeding. He realized that, even though his opponent had been a formidable one, this spar had taught him that his fighting style which had always been largely centered around complex ninjutsu, lacked in certain areas.

d20 [1] + Bo Staff [22] = 23 (fail)

However, there was no way around it, even though his weapon skills with his bo staff were very decent, he could not completely give up on ninjutsu. It was, by far, his specialty. Heck his ninjutsu skills were what had gotten him noticed by the elders to join the ranks of the Kiri ANBU in the first place. What he needed to do was fighure out a way to implement his ninjutsu skills in his melee fighting style.

d20 [1] + Bo Staff [22] = 23 (fail)

How he would do that, he had no idea so far. He had already found a way to use his elemental manipulation to increase his speed in combat to dodge attacks, but moving around wouldn't help him to land physical blows on his enemies should his chakra run out. Then, it hit him: should his chakra run out. This train of thought had just given Hiru the idea he had been looking for all this time. What if he could find a way to prevent his chakra from running out...

d20 [20] + Bo Staff [22] = 42 (pass)

Hiru remembered his long hours in the library learning the Chakra Kyuin jutsu which he had been using since to incapacitate his opponents during his missions. He had realized that using his Samehadamaku as a conduit for the jutsu had enabled him to drain even larger quantities of chakra as when he did through his hand or an element. What if he could do it with every succesful strike from his weapon?

d20 [6] + Bo Staff [22] = 28 (fail)

Hiru remembered the basics of the Chakra Kyuin. The first thing the user needed to do to maximize drain was to spot the targets largest chakra center in his body and focus his jutsu there. So, logically, if Hiru wanted to focus his weapon style on draining chakra, his focus shouldn't be so much the areas where the body is the softest (skull, ribs, etc.) but the areas where the most chakra was stored (organs).

How he would train that by himself, he wasn't sure yet. It was pretty obvious there wouldn't be many volunteers to get bashed by a Samehadamaku while getting their chakra drained... It appeared the would be only one solution, like he had done in the past, Hiru would train against himself. He placed his hands in a water seal and with a firm tone said: "Mizu bunshin no jutsu". Instantly, from the ground, a puddle of water formed.

d20 [14] + Bo Staff [22] = 36 (pass)

Very quickly from the puddle rose a perfect copy of Hiru. Better yet, a copy that he did not need to explain to what was the reason he had formed it. Hiru drew out his bo staff and started twirling it around. His clone, on the other hand, got in a low stance as it knew its job would be to try and dodge the incoming attacks. An ungrateful role, certainly, but one of the utmost importance nevertheless.

d20 [16] + Bo Staff [22] = 38 (pass)

Hiru wouldn't focus on the actual drain itself for the moment. This part of the training would be solely to learn how to land hits on the right areas of his opponent's body. He needed needed to shift his priority from finding soft bones to break to chakra rich zones to apply pressure on. Also, he was pretty certain that longer contacts could maximize the drain and the absorption.

d20 [12] + Bo Staff [22] = 34 (pass)

So, standing there theorizing being for the moment stagnant, he decided to give this a first shot. After having twirled his staff around a bit he went for a quick jab right at the clone's heart. It seemed his blow had been swift and precise enough as the bunshin didn't have time to dodge in any direction, he took the hit right to the sternum. Hiru realized that the efficiency of that hit would have been lower than an actual bash, but, for this technique, it was just what he needed.

d20 [3] + Bo Staff [22] = 25 (fail)

Hiru quickly tried a second one, this time aimed at the opponent's back, more specifically to his kidneys. However, because he took too much time trying to identify the perfect spot for his blow, he hesitated for a second too long, allowing the bunshing to easily move out of the trajectory of the incoming attack and avoid any contact. This was a valuable lesson for Hiru, better a weak contact than none at all...
