Nomura's opinion on the topic is probably the most important, I think. I'm sure that he preferred Tifa. Proof can be found at this site: Cloti Forever <3
When Nomura was accepted for the job with Square, the majority of his drawings were of girls with long black hair (like Tifa's) and very......... gifted in the chest area ( sweatdrop ) as is said in the site. Also, it is belived that Cloud is a projection of Nomura. So if Nomura is so fond of women like Tifa, it is only natural that he would make Tifa Cloud's lover (which he did <3). For more information refer to the site, and don't say anything to me unless you've looked though the whole site, and read every topic thoroughly. Thank you.

Here's the way I see it:
Tifa - maybe - he wanted to impress her; Cloud felt so much guilt over the incident when Tifa was in that comma; Tifa knows the REAL Cloud; Tifa pushed the AVALANCHE upon him to keep him close (Cloud accepts!)
Aerith - maybe - he felt so much guilt in AC (obviously) over her death; Aerith, however, has Zack in death; Aerith saw a lot in Cloud (she wanted to meet the real CLoud!); Cloud says, "I -- I mean -- we're here for you." when ?Aerith says she's alone
Yuffie - no way - ... yeah, I got nothing, but it doesn't seem like Cloud would like her that way.

Cloud most likely liked Tifa.
Aerith only liked cloud because he was so... the same. ( I Think )

Pink, what you said does have some truth to it, as do what Asgre and others have said about other pairings. However, there is no one true pairing for Final Fantasy VII. You can argue with your evidence back and forth, but until Square-Enix comes out and says "Cloud is dating THIS PERSON," then there are likely going to be more than one canon couple for Final Fantasy VII. All in all, it depends on how you play the game.
I honestly don't care who the hell Cloud ends up with. I can picture Cloud with any other character, and in the case of fanfiction, anything goes so long as it's well written and in character (which, contrary to popular belief, IS possible).
What I do NOT like what I'm seeing here, basically, is the "CloTi this" or "Cleris that" argument that is sort of underlying the whole thing. It doesn't matter if you're a Cloti, a Cleris, a Cloffie, or whatever kind of pairing you hold as your one true pairing (OTP). There are retards on both sides of the spectrum (basically a rather equal amount) that'll use the most idiotic things as evidence to support their pairing. That is how fandom works.
Cloud will like whoever the fan wants him to like. There is plenty of information to support a CloudxAerith pairing, but that doesn't mean you should blatantly ignore another pairing if evidence is supported.

Technically, CloudxAerith and CloudxTifa are BOTH canon. CloudxYuffie, although cute, doesn't have as much evidence to back it up as a one sided crush for YuffiexVincent, as Dirge of Cerberus gives us.
