This.

Especially now with most armies getting deep-strike exceptions when you shouldn't be able to deep strike. Aaaaaaand Mystics are excellent choices for Planet Strike games when on defence.

I can see why BoLS-con has banned allied armies. Stupid pricks.

I normally take a Grand master or brother captain leading a termie squad in my games with Space marines.
Coupled with my normal termies with chaplain with them, nasty force.

Okay, having fielded my Grey Knights list that I put up in the Army List review, I am dissatisfied. 4 Squads of 6 is too light, and too easy to whittle down. 6 Psycannons aren't really enough either. So I'm condensing the list to 3 squads of 8, all with double Psycannons.

HQ - Brother Captain - NFW, Psycannon, Psychic Hood, Bionics
- - Retinue: 4 Grey Knight Termies - 1 Psycannon, 1 Thunderhammer/StormShield

Troops:
8 Grey Knights - 2 Psycannon
- - Justicar - Auspex, Targeter

8 Grey Knights - 2 Psycannon
- - Justicar - Auspex, Targeter

8 Grey Knights - 2 Psycannon
- - Justicar - Auspex, Targeter

Heavy Support
Dreadnought - Multimelta, Missile Launcher, Extra Armor, Smoke

Dreadnought - Multimelta, Missile Launcher, Extra Armor, Smoke

Orbital Strike - Lance Strike

I'm waffling on my Dreads. They're my most reliable anti-tank, but I'm wondering if I'd be better off with Autocannon over Multimeltas for the ability to nail hordes and strike at longer ranges. If I swapped to AC's, I'd have 10 points to play with, which could get me a Melta Torpedo Instead of the Lance Strike, but I'm not entirely sure that's really a better option.

I'd suggest the Melta Torpedo. It matches up to the S10 immediately with it's additional 2d6 penetration, and can far surpass the penetration power of the Lance Strike.

Yeah, but the Lance Strike is AP1, and gets that +1 on the damage table. Melta's more likely to pen, but the Lance is more likely to destroy, plus the S10 is useful against some infantry models for denying WBB/FNP.

Good point. Capability to destroy the tank on a 4+, solid chance at destruction at 5+. I forgot that the Melta Torpedo is only AP3, which doesn't seem to make sense in light of the fact that all other Melta is AP1.

However, both the Lance and Melta would do fairly evenly at denying WBB/FNP, given that the models that primarily use those are all T4.

Immortals, Destroyers, Heavy Destroyers, Nurgle Marines (Plaguebearers?), Warbosses. Plus, vs. the Monolith the Melta Torpedo is less likely to damage it than the Lance.

I think I'll stick with the Lance, regardless of what I do with the Dreads. Maybe I'll drop one to an AC and pump the other to a Lascannon. We'll see.

Plague Marines are T4/5, meaning that they're T4 for Instant Death purposes. I was unaware of the solidly heightened toughness on the Necron heavy units.

Right, against a Tau horde killing army, what do you suggest? Gray Knight squad with a termie squad backing it up, or some Inquis Storm Troopers, with a Space Marine Tactical Squad or a scout squad?

Marine Tac squads for Troops with Teleport Attack Grey Knight squads. If you need to nail down troop slots, take min-size Stormtrooper squads. An Eversor Assassin would also work wonders, if you feel like taking an Inquisitor somewhere in the mix. That and having some Heavy Bolter Servitors along with an Inquisitor wouldn't be a horrible option.

PCs would do well, Heavy Bolters would make great anti-troop fire. I'd suggest one of Heavy Bolters and, if you really want to take another, Lascannons and Plasma Cannons. That way you can still take out enemy armor and snipe down suits.
