Missiles fired. Missiles exploded in midair before impact. Mages aboard the Vengeance were keeping track of enemy missiles and using their magic to blow them out of the sky, using Rods of Lightning to intercept the missiles. Out of the 20 mages charged with intercepting missiles, only six of them would actually succeed, leaving however many missiles remaining to slam into Vengeance's hull.

Meanwhile, the creatures the dropships had released into the city would be reaching the area the remaining RIOT members were, tearing into anything that stood in their way.

Standing in the shadow of a doorway. both 'pythons' out and dangerous, was Aekea's own little heart breaker, Liam. He was making quite the show of it as usual, as he puckered up his lips and laid a nice wet one on each arm.

"Not unless ya' want this wrench somewhere it wasn't meant to be, buddy!" The exasperated reply came from a hunkered down figure, who took the time to lean back and up a bit, stretching out her sore back.

The orange and yellow checkered bandanna did a good enough job of holding back her blue head of hair, but there was still sweat that built up along her forehead, making the scar there itch something fierce.

Both sleeves were rolled up and her overalls were dangerously open in the middle, which only made Liam linger all the more as he couldn't help but check out her rack every now and then. "...'sides, shouldn't you be watching the door, like I asked ya' too!" She shot the pretty boy a sharp look, even as he remained standing there, oblivious as usual and smiling that dolty smile of his.

"Hey-- hey, relax. I'm on it." Liam waved, as he turned on his heel heading back outside.

HUMANS. I WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND YOU.

The mechanical comment brought Sam back into focus, even as she wryly brought the wrench about and waggled it towards the source. "Well, I'd much rather be working on my cars Ribateau-- but it's kinda hard to do anything at the moment!"

Indeed it was... as the undead assault had been ongoing for some time now. Things were looking pretty grim, and before they got any worse, the few people with any wits about them left in Aekea had already decided on a course of action...

For Aekea had a secret.

A very...mechanical secret.

WE'LL DO ANYTHING WE CAN TO HELP OF COURSE! ALTHOUGH I ONLY SPECIALIZE IN BASE FLOOR AND WALL TILES.

Sam grumbled as she put up with Bildeau's endless pandering. She honestly didn't know what was worse.. Liam or Bild'... "Well, look. Like I said... you guys have a lot more than just house decoration in you're programming."

IT IS FORBIDDEN FOR US...YOU HUMANS MADE IT SO. OR IS THAT SIMPLY INCONVENIENT FOR YOU FLESH BA --AH-- HUMANS TO UNDERSTAND?

Sam squinted hard, banging her wrench hard against Rib' insides. "Oops. Sorry!" Not...

OHHHH I AM SO GLAD TO BE OF SERVICE! I WILL DO ANYTHING FOR YOUR LOVE SAAAAM!

"Great-- how about you guys keep quiet a bit, while I try not to fry your CPU's?" She smiled wide, eyes closed as the three Bot's suddenly felt a cold shock run through their servo's.

Meanwhile...

"Ladies--- Ladies!" Liam shouted out, arms spread open even as two figures suddenly blurred forward. Blinking, Liam smiled even wider, if that was at all possible, as each arm soon became occupied with women.

Two to be exact.

"Why'd you leave us!!"

"That was absolutely horrible of you!"

"I'm sorry! Seriously! I promise each of you a personal Gun Show when this is over!" He smiled and winked.

The Von Helsons...after the little incident with Natasha, they had been less forgiving and more...well...more everywhere. He had enthralled them with his stupid sexy body, and they were hooked for good.

So it wasn't much of a strength to get the vampiric duo to act as his personal bodyguards, while the fighting above the city worsened. It wouldn't be long before the entire city was flooded with undead as well... if all the news reports were right anyway.

He had been trying to ask Sam out for the entire week (Natasha...turned out to be more of a woman than even Liam could handle), when the whole 'invasion' had begun.

It was Sam, and a few hectic calls around the city who had gotten it into her head to do what no citizen of Aekea was allowed to do: Use the Bots...

So here they were--- located smack dab in the middle of town (right where that ******** huge crane is), with the Von Helsons guarding the perimeter and Liam keeping them both pliable and willing to do the work, while Same worked inside trying to bring the Bot's battle settings online.

((First offensive roll I have made in this whole battle. Hope you get lucky.))

((Tough break. Take it like a man.))

Those missiles- there were quite a lot of them, actually. To be honest, only twelve percent of them were actually destroyed, which left the remaining thirty-six to do what they did best.

Blow s**t up.

Hopefully, it'd be enough to make the hull just about cave in. A few of them might even hit their intended target- the main cannon itself. Once that happened, They would have a nice, big chunk of time to get re-organized.

As for the newest abominations, the carapace-armored, four-legged beasties were hit with the rockets and a whole lot of magically-enhanced lead. Those that didn't carry the heavy weapons fired their underslung grenade launchers instead. Any sort of mid-range personal artillery would do at the moment, for the sake of blowing a hole in these ********. Five, of whom the entire force was still standing, had decided that they were not about to be cannon fodder.

And that sniper? He had burned through about three-fourths of his ammo reserves. That left him with a few options, but not many. From where he lay, he could see them coming towards his buddies, and began doing what he did best- firing at them from extreme range.

And this time, he didn't fire randomly into the horde; every bullet counted, and every one was aimed for one of those new bigbads.

-Headquarters-

"This is Iron Wing Seven, responding to distress call from RI Aekea. We hear you need a bit of help down there."

The Security Chief would smile and said, "Damn you for being late and bless you for coming. What's your position?"

"We're inbound from the southwest- looks like a real picnic you got going on down there. Spectre gunships are tagging along for the ride, and all weapons are primed and ready."

The man on the other end nodded and said, "Then I believe it's time to end this. Get some CAS on R.I.O.T. Four's position with those Spectres. Iron Wing Seven, you are on cleanup duty. Get those guns to bear on any undead you see moving. Our air defenses will keep any Wraiths off your asses."

"Copy that."

Along with the crew of the Spooky AC-130U that was flying in at fifteen thousand feet, there were twelve men and women who were ready to dive feet first into the hell that was Aekea.

No one had seen R.I.O.T. Ten in action for some time. The Unconventional Tactics squad was in need of some action at the moment since Lament could take care of itself, and this was the perfect place to begin.

"Prepare to jump, people! We are to support all pockets of resistance in the area! I want any walking corpse in the area to be neutralized! Blow up a building or two if you have to, but this ends now!"

"Sir!"

Vengeance shuddered as it was struck by all those missiles, smoke pouring out of the blasted holes in its hull, but the airship remained afloat. Vengeance returned fire with its main cannon, bombarding the base and its missile silos and autocannons and the seemingly abundant number of other highly destructive and seemingly heavily defended weapons systems with dozens of mid-size (30-ft. diameter) beams of pure negative energy.

(Roll) On the ground, two of the twelve Necromorphs were blasted back by the firepower aimed in their general direction, while all the others evaded, fanning out to surround the base and flank them from all sides. The two that were blasted got right back up to their feet, however, and resumed charging toward the soldiers manning the weapons with feral speed. They were obviously more than the typical monsters the soldiers have been dealing with thus far.

"Damnit," Captain Krik cursed, "Why aren't they all dead yet? We should have already occupied this damn city and began with the next phase. Why are they still alive?!"

"Captain, perhaps it is time we used it," Commander Smock stated.

"It? You mean...? Yes... Perhaps we should. Ohula, get the Draconis III on the line. We are going to need Lord Zauviir's authorization to use it."

But of course, by the time they fired that cannon at them again... the shields were bolstered. The mages within were not going down without a fight, and they were definitely showing their talents here.

So as much damage as that beam of negative energy was to do, it wasn't going to work just yet. Still, if a shot like that could take out half the shield's capacity in one hit, another plan had to be formulated.

"Get into Defensive Formation. I figure it's time that we took things up a step."

Meanwhile, as soon as that cannon stopped firing, the Security Chief said calmly, "Ready the artillery. 155mm shells, and I want them on autofire all day long. That cannon is the target, and if you can put a shot through those holes we just made, all the better. Fire the next missile battery while we're getting them set. And someone please do something about those Wraiths- I'm getting tired of flies buzzing over my head."

The next wave of missiles streaked forward, Forty more Slammers were sent rocketing towards the airship to do whatever damage they could. The anti-air guns were still targeting the Wraiths, aiming to take as many of them as they could before they had to reload.

**

On the ground, things were not entirely looking good.

"What the hell are those things, Captain?"

He grimaced and said, "Dunno, but we need to take them out! Fall back!"

They began retreating, pressing their defense with everything they had, but just when things began to look bleak for a few unfortunate men, fire rained from the sky.

Or to be more specific, the pair of cloaked Spectres revealed themselves above the Necromorphs and began unloading their vulcan cannons on them. If the standard weaknesses didn't cut it, then something else would have to, and there were no substitutes for good old fashioned 25mm autocannon rounds that happened to be armor-piercing.

"Hello there, gents. Need some help?"

The two of them began a strafing pattern, one that would ensure coverage of all targets before they got a chance to penetrate the building.

And just a few minutes behind them, the Spooky was inbound, all the big guns trained and prepared to fire on any enemy target they could find. The information provided by the sattelite had given a clear picture of the battlefield, and now they knew exactly what to shoot at. Since it seemed that headquarters was busy with the airship, that left Iron Wing Seven to deal with the situation on the ground.

"We're jumping soon, people! Gear up and let's do this right!"

As the gates whirred open the forces at the gate gave out a large cheer, their companions having succeeded. This was only met seconds later by horror as they saw the large metal contraptions spill out the gate and head towards them. Immediately a force that was trying to get into the city was turning, trying to make space between themselves and the machines, to get combat effective. Of course, the force was so large, that it took a while to move, so the troops at the front line would be decimated, unable to defend themselves they would be finished quickly.

The mages would need to handle this, quickly mages began taking to the skies, and began to blast the large machines with torrents of flames. The body and bone mages would be useless here, their attempts to kill the drivers made useless by their robotic bodies.

Within the army, Body-slaves tried to make their way to the front of the lines, the large hulking armored masses would try to forcibly stop the machines, although it would take a while for them to get to the front of the forces, until then the front lines would have to deal with the losses.

"AHAHAHAHA!"

Reyin was still laughing, though that mood changed when the first fireball splashed not too far from his feet. So Reyin made it a point to drop down into the cockpit of the center combine, slamming the door shut just as another gout of flame rushed over the thresher.

The temperature inside the cabin rocketed up, making things increasingly uncomfortable. So Reyin did what any normal person would do. He turned on the AC, flipped on the radio, and kicked back to watch the chaos.

The whirring blades were designed for use in harvesting fields, not bodies. But these contraptions were fresh off the factory floor, the blades were as sharp as they could possibly be, and they were designed to last for years of harvesting. A few minutes worth of chopping up bodies shouldn't prove too taxing.

The mack trucks bringing up either side were just, well, large. These vehicles weren't exactly trucking along at two miles an hour, though. They were holding steady at a solid 35 mph, mowing through the front lines like it was fall harvest time.

And the robots in the back had some nice sized rocks and boulders to hurl at those annoying, flying mages.
PostPosted: Mon Jul 07, 2008 6:24 pm

The mages that were walking around in the air began to target the wheels on the vehicles, aiming to heat them fast enough for the tires to pop, causing the vehicles to slow down to almost nothing. In the mean time, the other mages began shielding the mages within the air, taking away from shielding in the army ranks, the harvesters not really being practical for shielding against. Any rocks launched against the mages would bounce back and away, simply descending into the mess that was the army.

By this time, some Body-slaves had made their way to the front of the army, and had begun launching themselves on the Mack trucks, smashing at windows as they went. Being the large hulks they were, any rocks would not deter them heavily, perhaps dent their armour, but certainly not kill them.

More time had passed, and the army had managed to scatter more from the large vehicles. The heavy armour would certainly damage the harvesters, or anything with blades in fact, the brittle armour taking a toll on the blades of the harvesters. Added to that the occasional blade that became stuck in the wheels of the machines, and they would face a serious problem in movement.

As the machines began to move further from the gates, the army began to encompass them, troops coming up from behind to assault any of the slower moving vehicles. Troops behind the machines began to launch spears at the robots within the trucks. Anything to stop their assault.

Meanwhile, from still further in the ranks of the army, the abominations of the flesh began to move, crushing the odd soldier that was foolish enough to get in their way. These reptilian beasts stood at a good twenty feet in height, cold blooded, fanged, toothed, and keening for the oil of the enemies. Their screeches echoed over the battleground as they made their way to the trucks and combiners. They cast mighty shadows like an obscene spider, their six limbs moving in horrific manners, not to mention the two daunting sickle like appendages curving from their shoulder blades.

25 missiles would be taken out by the mages aboard the Vengeance, in a similar fashion as the missiles from the first volley.

"We are taking heavy damage, captain!"

"Yes, I can see that," Krik replied irritably. "Smock, have you gotten through to Lord Zauviir?"

"Yes, captain. Authorization has been granted. It will take some time before it is ready."

"Deploy the beacon and bring us out of range of their weapons."

A black missile shot out from the Vengeance, striking the ground directly below where it was hovering. Six black-robed mages teleported around it, forming a circle and immediately beginning ritual chanting. The airship began to ascend, smoke coming from its damaged hull, Wraiths providing cover as it started retreating.

On the ground, the Necromorphs hurriedly scuttled under the cover of some nearby buildings, while the two that had charged ahead were perforated by the rapid fire, blowing away chunks of carapace, disabling one of them while the other leaped forward to pounce on the nearest man. One of the Spectres would get a nice surprise in the form of a car flying towards him, thrown by one of those hulking abominations long ago dropped by the airship.

If the farm equipment had been in the middle of a field when the tires blew, things might have gone a bit more smoothly. Unfortunately, they were on what could have passed for a smooth highway. The tires blew, shot air out, then started flopping around. Thirty five wasn't an extremely unreasonable speed, sure, they probably could have lost some control, but they were in a tight formation as it was. Hardly any room to swerve into one another and all.

At some point the thresher gears would just start smoking, and the blades stopped threshing. Still, Dead Men were just getting run the ******** over by now as farm machinery charged through the crowd. Those hit might not have been killed by the combines, but as the tractors pulled overhead the cultivators would punch down and puncture/smash anything underneath.

Trucks swerved, a few robots fell out of the back, and they just kept throwing rocks. If anything grabbed ahold of the sides, they'd use their super robot strength to deliver crushing blows sans rocks, or just try to pry the things off. Nothing really seemed to be standing in the way of the vehicles, though. With the thresher motors disabled the harvesters were able to punch the accelerators and keep going at a fairly steady speed despite blown up tires, and the mack trucks had more than enough momentum to plow through a horde of people.

Reyin was sitting back, enjoying the wonders of air conditioning when he caught his first glimpse of the giant things in the back of the ranks. Reyin furrowed his brow, pushed out his lower lip, and narrowed his eyes.

Yep, sure enough there those things were, tall as a small building.

The farm equipment wasn't exactly small in size, either. It wasn't twenty feet off the ground, but the top of the cabin was easily close to fifteen.

And, with a sigh, Reyin stood up in the cabin, patted the robot driving on the shoulder, and snatched up his sword.

"Just isn't my day."

Four of the abominations in total had been brought to lend assistance with the trucks, the remaining abominations either lying too far in the rear, or too much to the side. They were closing in on the trucks now, and their screams and screeches could be heard over the din of machinery. Their scales glistened in the sunlight, and their eyes stared down the metal carriages which thought to challenge their own might.

Closer to the vehicles the mages still reigned down assault on the trucks, this time they started with the head of the truck, aiming to incinerate the passenger cabins, the Mack trucks were the largest problem, and so they would be attacked first, the mages were aiming to cook the driver out of the cabin, or melt him into it, either was good.

The Dead-men on the field were decimated all through their front lines, injuries ranging into the thousands due to their tightly packed numbers, and fatalities coming close to that thanks to the harvesters.

As the trucks moved more through the army, what was reinforcements and the tattered remains of the front lines began to sweep into the city as well, perhaps the machines would have done better to defend the gate, rather than storming out of it and leaving it open. As the basic troops realized there was little they could do against such large machines, the order was given to allow the trucks a wide berth, and begin to move into the city. The abominations would deal with the trucks.

Speaking of which, they were bordering on attack distance as they neared the combiners and tractors. This was their primary target, as the mages were dealing with the Mack trucks. Their back-mounted claws began clamping down wildly as they neared attack range. One let out a blood curdling scream as it prepared to engage, its powerful leg muscles tensing, the others seemed to be following suit.

"Sir, unidentified object has reached the ground, accompanied by six enemy units."

The Security Chief grimaced and said into his radio, "Iron Wing Seven, deploy your cargo. I want them to handle whatever it is that just dropped from that airship, five minutes ago. As for the big guns, I want them to take care of that army out there. Seems they've been stalled for some reason- we should take this opportunity to eviscerate them."

"Understood, sir. We're delivering the birthday presents. Iron Wing Seven, out."

The doors at the back opened wide, revealing twelve men and women in black tactical gear, with access to a hefty amount of weaponry on their person. They had heard their new orders, and were immediately prepared to kick some a**.

"Into the belly of the beast, people. Let's go!"

They jumped from a good fifteen thousand feet, the lift packs on their backs engaging as soon as they neared ground level. As they landed, the members of R.I.O.T. Ten began clearing out any enemy forces nearby, still mindful of their main objective.

Whatever had just been dropped, it was badass. They had to find it, take care of those mages, and destroy it just in case that wasn't enough.

"Form up and move, double time!"

And on the ground, the cannons were ready for action. All anti-air ceased as six 155mm beasts were deployed, their auto-loaders able to fire faster than any manned crew.

"They're ready, sir."

The Security Chief nodded and said, "Then do not let them leave without saying goodbye. Fire."

All six of them were activated, and began attempting to punch decisive holes into the airship. One of them happened to be aimed with a trajectory that would hit the engines, while another was fixed on the main cannon. The rest were focused to provide maximum impact onto the hull in an attempt to tear it to shreds.

**

"Guess they couldn't handle that much heat," one of the pilots said with a smirk as he activated his building scanners. The buildings that the Necromorphs had entered into were evacuated by now. He nodded and said, "No running from me, you ugly sons of bitches."

He fired two of his missiles, one of them aimed towards one building each, locked straight onto the abominations.

The second man saw the car coming, and did the simple thing- moved out of its way. Or rather, tried to.

He succceeded and made an attempt to find whatever it was that had thrown it at him. He grimaced as he found the abomination and said, "My turn."

A missile headed its way at mach two.

On the ground, the man who had been leapt at decided that he wasn't going to be lunch today, and rolled right underneath the damned thing, firing the grenade launcher attatched to his rifle at it once he was behind him. Two more soldiers followed suit, now relatively free from the attack of the uglies thanks to the close air support.

If one each wouldn't count, how about three on one?

With the fire mages concentrating on the mack trucks, that left Reyin plenty of time to kick open the door to the cabin and climb up to the roof of the combine. He balanced atop the cabin, crouched down low with his sword held in front of him, still sheathed.

The mack trucks were, well, getting hot. But the engines would overheat long before the reinforced steel and glass started to overheat.

As it stood, the radiator of each truck was building up a lot of pressure, but as the center of the army continued to get decimated they could focus less of their attention on the army and more on the mages trying to cook their transports.

Apparently rocks weren't doing the trick, so one truck swerved through a crowd of Dead Men, a trio of Aekean robots piled out, and before anyone really knew what was going on, a mack truck was hurtling towards the air at a group of fire mages. It was also on fire and spitting rocks as it spun end over end, but whatever.

The robots that piled out hopped into one of the remaining trucks as it rolled on past, hanging off the sides.

Reyin, meanwhile, was working his magic. He had climbed down from the roof, balanced on the thresher, and was pushing hard against a broken threshing blade that had split clean down the middle.

Once he had succeeded in pushing the blade out part ways, he clambered back up to the roof and locked eyes with the closest giant thing to him.

It roared.

Reyin smiled.

The mages began to scatter, but then truck was fast, and it caught three out of a group of five mages as it flew through the air. Rocks coming from the truck struck down those troops not careful enough to dodge them, and crushed a group as it landed.

The mages began to concentrate their attacks strongly on more trucks, as the army scattered to grassy areas where they could. The trucks, without their tires, would slow and stop in the soft grass, digging it up with their sharp rims before stopping.

Meanwhile the creatures began attacking the harvesters, jumping onto the harvesters, and immediately beginning to attack the machines, not concentrating so much on the drivers inside, as much as ripping apart the machine with claws and pincers, tearing chunks of metal off, roofs from the drivers seat, and drivers if they didn't remove themselves.

All except the one which had roared. It ran at the harvester, keeping to the side of the machine, watching its movements. As it got close enough to run alongside the machine, it's pincers immediately moved for Reyin, aiming to pinch him around the waist, and sever him in two.
