Shinji had found himself almost immediately needing to assist a group of young Academy students who had forgotten some of the hand seals and were having some trouble with the chakra control. going over it again with the small group, it wasn't long at all before he heard Riko's voice call out to him. Looking up, he was both surprised, yet not surprised to see that Riko had already formed a dust clone and began walking over to her... assuring the young Academy students that he would be back momentarily to help them.

Walking over, Shinji had no trouble distinguishing the real Riko from her clone, but it was only due to the fact that Konaga were so easily picked out by other Konaga, even when placed against a clone molded by their own chakra. "Good work Riko, I would expect nothing less from you. You seem to have gotten it down... it looks like a perfect copy of you... so let's see if it holds up to the test." Putting his arm out to guide Riko back a few feet, Shinji turned around and tossed a shuriken at the clone. Upon contact, the clone dispersed, scattering into thousands of dust particles in the air, which, had they been near would have gotten everyone in their faces.

"Well then, I guess that's that Riko. Good Work, you seem to have properly learned this technique. You're the first one to complete the lesson from my very first class. Not that I'm surprised at all, just glad to see it was you." Flashing Riko a quick smile, Shinji then turned to go back to the other Academy students who were still struggling to get the technique to work.

Having spent most of the afternoon helping the younger Academy students, Shinji sent everyone home to come back the next day and continue working on the second jutsu. "I guess two jutsu in one session was a bit much. I'll just teach one from now on." With few people left, Shinji found himself free to finally do some training of his own. Finding an isolated corner of the field near a large boulder and a tree, which was not inhabited by a certain sleep-happy Chuunin, he sat down and broke out the Katon scroll he had been carrying with him for a while.

"Alright, it's finally time to awaken the Katon element my father says resides within me. I've done the preliminaries already... now it's just time to get to work." Opening the scroll up, Shinji knew that he needed to start with the basics and master then... for what was a skill without a strong foundation. The first skill was basic, but the foundation for everything... Katon: Ichi (Fire Release: One). "Seems simple enough."

Putting the scroll down, Shinji held his index finger up in front of him, forming a seal quickly before extending his finger again, staring at it intently as he tried to form heat within it. After a few seconds, he felt nothing, staring intently at the finger, his brow furrowing in an attempt to psychically ignite the finger in flame. The concentration must have been too furious for his own good as a wave of pain pierced his head, causing him to recoil sharply and bear with the agonizing pain until it finally subsided to a non-paralyzing level.

Shaking it off, Shinji formed a seal again, extending his finger as he focused more specifically on the chakra, trying not to ignite his finger, but draw the heat from his core. he wasn't sure if it was working or not considering his numbed sense of touch, but he saw a smile bit of smoke rise from his finger, having heated some of the dirt on his hand. wondering if this was it, Shinji brought out a kunai and dragged his finger across the handle, watching as the cloth was burned through and fell to the ground, the heat slicing through it without flame. "heh, not so bad for a first try... let's see what else we've got here."

With only a few Academy level Katon jutsu left to learn, Shinji excitedly picked up the next scroll, reading into the next technique. This one seemed strangely unique, as it dealt with a strangely subtle form of Katon rather then actual flames. reading over the scroll careful to understand the theory behind the technique, Shinji figured it would be easy enough with what he had already learned and dove into performing the technique.

Clasping his hands together and rubbing them against each other, Shinji felt ready to go as he formed the necessary hand seals. "Katon: Fukumen no Jutsu"", clasping his hands together as he said the words and raised the energy and chakra from his inner core, Shinji had difficulty at first knowing if the technique was working properly at first. With his lack of ability to feel the heat, he had to rely on other senses, until suddenly he could see his hands brighten as if a light were shining between them. Satisfied that this was the sign, he threw his hands forward, palms out, releasing a burst of light from them before quickly dissipating in the air.

"Not bad, not bad. that could certainly be useful in certain situations... or at least for waking Kai up from her little naps if needed." Picking up the scroll again, Shinji was determined to learn all of the Academy jutsu in one go, but was suddenly forced to halt his progress as he felt a wave of pain rise up within him, causing him to clench the scroll parchment tightly as he close dhis eyes and grit his teeth at the agony. His mind began to burn as his body was agonizingly pained. The feeling of a hundred daggers spearing him resounding through his body, Shinji fought back against the pain, eventually breaking through the crippling pain to be able to function once more, brought back to the hazy world around him.

Trying to forget it as the pain subsided, though it still racked him with unimaginable pain, Shinji moved on to the next technique. This one would be interesting as he would now be expelling flame, but Shinji was ready for the challenge and excited to learn a new element. Putting the scroll down, Shinji weaved the necessary hand seals as he focused his energies inward, guiding and directing the chakra gathered to his lungs where it was molded and formed. "Katon: Shoumeidan no Jutsu" Suddenly blowing out the amassed chakra from his lungs, Shinji was pleased to see a small burst of flame erupt from his mouth, casting a bright light on the slowly dimming night of the training grounds around him. Yet again he had been successful, and there was only one task left.

Getting up from his seat, Shinji read the last technique and deemed it to be relatively simple in theory. All he had to do was apply all the techniques he had learned so far and ignite a projectile. Taking out a single kunai, Shinji found a nearby tree and got ready to aim at it. Standing in a firm position, Shinji flashed through the necessary hand seals, making sure to both build chakra up in his lungs and also coat the kunai held in the energy. Pulling his arm back as he held the kunai,

Shinji prepared for the careful execution of what would come next. "Katon: Kunai no Jutsu" Speaking the words, Shinji threw the kunai forward and released the chakra from his lungs simultaneously, igniting the chakra coated projectile in flame as it flew through the air. Ignited in flame, the kunai cut deeply into the tree, scorching the bark heavily as it stuck in the wood, continuing to glow in fire for another minute before fading away, leaving only the regular kunai behind.

Gage snuck through the training grounds undetected. He was hoping to sneak up on his sensi, to test the man's abilities. Gage looked for awhile, then finally, towards the edge of the training grounds, found Shinji. 'Ok, looks like I've found him. Gage thought as he stopped and took a long breath. With that, he bodyflickered infront of Shinji and knelt before him. "G'day, Kanaga Shinji, I am Gage Melancon, I was just assigned to your squad, sir!" Gage said without lifting his head.

"I am willing to fight; to die protecting"

(( 0.o! Poor Sensi, lack of sleep, no doubt. You can do it!))

Touche all, but the fact that I could erase that paragraph and still have the prerequisite number of paragraphs to complete the training without adding anymore sort of makes me feel better about failure.

Squirrel Overlord

As Kai fell to the ground, one of the squirrels stepped forward on the high branch. This squirrel was different than the rest. He was the leader of the squirrels, and wore the sacred headband to prove it! The squirrel rose it's fist in the air, shaking it at the foolish girl who dared to tread on their tree. "Fool! This tree belongs to the order of the holy acorn! You cannot simply claim it as your sleeping place!" The tiny creature chattered, wholly unaware that humans were unable to understand the higher tongue of rodent-kind. "For your insolence, you shall die!" With that, the squirrel let loose a mighty squeal, dropping his fist to his side as the hordes of squirrels behind him fired another round of high velocity nuts towards the girl.
