Lin looked up at Sir Aranel, she could only imagine how that trip must have been like. That probably wasn't fun at all...

"I hope so too, and as for your question about Shiro and Ura, you still can't pry Kaito away from Shiro, so he's coming too."

At least she was pretty sure, though she really hoped Kaito didn't go stir crazy on the ship.

Earendil nodded. "You should ask the others if they want to come along as well," he told Lin. "I'm not sure how many of them Aunt Elnara would allow to come, but ... I think it would be great if more of them could come."

He looked thoughtful suddenly. "The only thing we don't have yet," he murmured softly, "is a healer ... we're going to need a healer."

Lin personally thought there weren't going to be many if at all coming because most of them had kids. She could only think of two.. three (if he came home) people that could come.

"A healer huh?" Lin thought about it and shook her head, "I can't think of anyone. Not here, or the Borderlands.... or at home. Well... I know at home, but one's married and the other is Miyu."

Which summed it up in a neat nutshell it was Miyu, no one would be able to get her on a boat.

Earendil chuckled. "Well then. I'll do some asking around, see what I can come up with. Maybe someone else knows someone who might be willing to come." He glanced over at Sir Aranel. "What about you, do you know any healers who might be interested in traveling for an extended period of time?"

Sir Aranel shook his head. "None, my lord Prince. Our city has only one healer, and she is needed there."

"Maybe we'll find one on our travels," Lin suggested, "We still have the trip around the whole of Southland."

And there had to be someone around here that might want to come along and be a healer at the same time.

"True," Earendil agreed. "Hopefully by that time, this mess with the morgawr will be over and done with." He turned to Sir Aranel. "What are your plans after it's all over?"

Sir Aranel looked evenly at Earendil, his face expressionless. "I haven't thought about it," he said softly. "Right now, my only focus is surviving. I have seen what the creature can do, and I have no false hopes."

Lin frowned, in the past she would have said someone like Aragost could deal with it, but now she wasn't so sure. Not to mention knowing how scarred up Aragost was, she would have guessed he got through barely.

"One day at a time," Lin murmured...

Earendil had only admiration for the man. "You are very courageous," he said softly.

Sir Aranel looked at Earendil evenly. "You think so?" he asked. "I am doing this so that my sister's family doesn't have to be torn apart. I know what it's like to lose a parent ..."

Lin couldn't help but in the back of her mind note how being with Sir Aranel was two steps forward and one step back. She didn't know why she thought this, she just did. Maybe it was because one moment he was fine and the next he was not. Not that she could blame him, this was going to be very difficult for him. Maybe, she decided that he struck her a bit too defensive since this whole thing started.

"Yes," she replied to Sir Aranel's question, "It's one thing to have a reason for stepping up, but it is something else to actually do it."

Sir Aranel blinked down at Lin in mild surprise, then smiled faintly at her.

"Well," he murmured softly, "I survived once - who's to say I won't do it again?"

Earendil chuckled softly. "There's the spirit. Now, once you get back home, what do you have to look forward to? Your sister's family, obviously. What else?"

Sir Aranel smiled faintly. "Not much," he admitted. "I have a rather dull life. Telling stories to the children, sometimes, but I stay with my sister and her family and I earn my keep by helping them out, teaching the children, training the boys ..."

But it sounded like a peaceful life to Lin. At least before he found that letter at any least.

"What did you tell your sister?" she just realized, "If she doesn't know about the letter, you must have told her something."

Sir Aranel shrugged. "Business trip. I left her a note, told her I'd be gone for an extended time. She's the kind of person ... she wouldn't have let me go, she would have come instead. She's always been protective of me. Even now."

Earendil stopped them at a door in the east wing, opposite the wing where the family and Lin lived, and nodded at it. "This is your room," he said softly. "But don't you feel bad lying to your sister like that?"

Sir Aranel nodded slowly. "I do," he admitted, "but I'd feel far worse if her family was torn apart by her leaving."

That made sense, even though Lin wondered what would happen if Sir Aranel didn't come back. He was part of her family too after all.

"Hopefully everything will work out."

Though she probably wouldn't know, well... she might see him again at the Borderlands, but beyond that it was out of her hands. She wouldn't know until it was over...

Sir Aranel nodded at Lin gratefully. "Thank you." Then he looked at the room Earendil was showing him. "If you don't mind," he said softly, "I would like to rest."

Earendil nodded at the man and stepped back to give him space. "Of course."

With a slight bow, the man turned and disappeared into his room, closing the door gently but firmly behind him.

Earendil looked down at Lin and raised one eyebrow, as if asking, Well?

Lin looked up thought about the meeting. She really didn't know what to think of Sir Aranel, but she motioned for Earendil to follow her. What could she say? He was nice.... but reserved.... he seemed to take this personally....
