[ Whilst this all went on, Raven secretly snuck around to Cynthia and slid to kneel, presenting her finger with the ring. Turns out, it was just an elaborate set up to support same sex marriage! ]

So this was one of the byproducts of 3 hours non-stop walking along with risking life limb and camera last night at the annual Auckland Lantern Festival and Night Market:  Just thought I'd share it with you guys 'cos it's pretty 3nodding

Koshogatsu is a big hit in Japan, but I've never eaten or been to a Yuanxiao festival. It is stunning, though.

Levana Eclair Koshogatsu is a big hit in Japan, but I've never eaten or been to a Yuanxiao festival. It is stunning, though. Auckland's lantern festival is to celebrate our relationship with our sister city in China. Both cities have an identical pair of plates that they display during their festivals. One plate features a Chinese dragon and the other plate features a Taniwha.

Levana Eclair I'd like to go to some of the local festivals around here in the Florida area. It will be a while before I take a River cruise to China, but its on my list of things to do. Also New Zealand. I have friends out there who have never eaten a Taco before. It is my destiny to introduce them to a Taco. I've made tacos before with one of those "do it yourself" kits, but I've never had a traditionally made one. I think it might be because Mexican food has never really been very big in New Zealand though it's beginning to get a bigger following. My boyfriend and I have just had three Mexican restaurants open up within walking distance of our home... I'm not generally very good with spicy food though, so I'm a bit apprehensive about trying them.

I love spicy foods. I'm always up for pushing my spicy tolerances too. Of course I'm up for trying any dish though...I made a Filipino dish the other day called Adobo. It's a tangy dish that uses pork (you can add chicken or any other meat), soy sauce, vinegar, ginger, and garlic. You serve it over rice...My mother learned that one when she visited the Philippines many years back.
I'd love to travel and collect some regional recipes like that.

Adobo is delicious. I, too, love spicy food, but that definitely has a lot to do with my asian heritage. As for the Mexican food in New Zealand, I wouldn't worry too much about spiciness being a problem. Most mexican restaurants will have the majority of their items actually be not spicy; and you can always ask them to prepare the dish without jalapenos or whatever.
If you like spicy food Jilly, give Korean food a try. A lot of their (our) dishes are spicy, especially the soups and stews. There is some good meats that are spicy, too. I like spicy daeji bulgogi, which is spicy marinated pork. Great on rice, just like Adobo.
